The Amsterdam sim is being auctioned off on ebay for a starting bid of 20000 USD! I haven't seen the ebay listing but it was under Place ingame.
The PR value of the sim is stressed. Also the quality of the build.
Is this the first time a sim as been on ebay? And is this a landmark price? And does anyone think it will actually sell at this price?
This opens up a whole new way to make money in SL if it happens or does it?

I thought ebay banned the auctioning of virtual items. I guess maybe sims don't qualify as a virtual item?

I am led to believe that one of the owners of eBay is an investor in Linden Lab.

From: tristan Eliot I thought ebay banned the auctioning of virtual items. I guess maybe sims don't qualify as a virtual item? From what i have heard you are corrrect, in the sense that you cant auction off virtual items that dont belong to you. For example in other online games if you buy an item that item is still owned by the maker of the game. However in SL we own the IP rights to all we create and from what i have been told that is why we can sell SL items on ebay. Spesking of ebay, is there a place where people can auction off transferable items from SL they no longer want?

From: Dnali Anabuki Is this the first time a sim as been on ebay? No, it's not a first. In fact, LL itself auctioned off a sim on eBay last year, as did Anshe. I don't recall whether either of them sold. And yes, eBay recently announced that it would no longer allow the sale of virtual goods... EXCEPT for Second Life items. Apparently this is because SL is the only virtual world that explicitly grants the ownership of in-world items to its users. P2

For 20000 USD, it sure makes sense to buy an island, pretty it up and auction it off on ebay.

As a Power Seller on eBay I have been noticing an increse in SL items posted on eBay in the last few days, I am confident that the Sim will sell although I also believe that Stroker would have benefited if he would have set the BIN price higher with the option for buyers to submit offers.

From: Sheena Gelfand OMG I needed that laugh for the day Which begs one to hope that the new owners will carry on with the theme and not... smite it down (very sad, that would be).

lol if someone paid 20,000 then rebuilt the place they would need committed.
since it would be way cheaper to start from scratch.
I would think you could rebuild that sim for under $3000 US

From: Winter Phoenix Are the prostitutes included? Last time I looked (ahem purely academic research) the Amsterdames were waiting to be restarted somewhere else (maybe Amsterdam 2) and the space was occupied by freelancers. The place will not be the same without them. Anyhow, I equate these sl "prostitutes" with rl telephone girls. Don't confuse the sl pixel bashers with rl working girls!

Ok, if it sold for $50K, can it seriously be back up for sale for a current high bid of $56? (Note there is no "K" at the end of that dollar amount). http://cgi.ebay.com/Amsterdam-Sim-in-Second-Life_W0QQitemZ200093921667QQcategoryZ4596QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
