The mere fact that LL has provided PG and Mature areas should in my view indicate that PG areas should be of sufficient public decency to be the sort of place you wouldn't mind showing your mother. For anything and everything else you have Mature.

And I think this is the essential problem: if you want to be able to say naughty words, or go skinny-dipping, or even (gasp) have ordinary sex with a boyfriend/girlfriend in your bedroom... then you have to put up with the risk of a hardcore pay-for-sado-masochistic-tentacle-bondage club setting up outside your front door, because as far as SL is concerned they're just the same as you - "Mature". I can see why many places would appreciate a division between R and XXX, but I can see it provoking a nightmare with existing land.

Just because people prefer M land doesn't mean they are okay with hardcore sex shops surrounding them. As has been pointed out previously, there are different gradations of "mature" but nothing to really signal what you're getting. Although I think the notion of recalibrating all land for an additional rating has a lot of practical problems, in theory it makes sense. It is not censorship, more like how movie ratings work: you have R movies and you have X movies. The rating system doesn't stop producers from making pornographic movies, it signals to moviegoers what they are going to see.

Continuing that analogy, I suspect most of the demand for M land was people thinking along the lines of R-rated or even PG-13 (eg. they can use swear words freely without needing to worry about violating community standards.) That is the case for me; although I have no interest in making sex animations or what have you, I also wouldn't want my store on PG land.

ADDITION: What Yumi said. I was responding to Kathy, and Yumi posted while I was typing.

whadyamean Johan? .. I can watch my alt turning over and over on that sunbathe towel of yours all day long!! .... cold shower time!

Well, that demonstrates the point doesn't it? There's sex and there's sex. Simply drawing the line between Mature and PG is one thing .. but is it enough?
Three months back someone was promoting the idea of extra category XXX and I was one of the anti-puritansoapbox objectors. I don't know. Certainly PG needs cleaning up as a first response.

I have to say that I'm on the side of those that think the problem is exaggerated. Most malls that I can think of have no porn at all, unless you are so repressed you consider illustrations of underwear and swimear to fall into that category.

I have encountered some very explicit images from time to time, but always away from public view.

Was it John Lennon who said "If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out"? No, maybe that was Andy Kaufman... Dick Cheney?

I forget. Never mind.

Being of native american descent myself, the idea posted by many on here of simply rounding up all of the undesirables, forcing them off their land, and stuffing them into reservations doesn't sit well with me.
Rather than making a new zone for anything goes areas and forcing everybody to relocate, the more reasonable solution would be to leave mature sims alone, and create a new type of zone (some have suggested an R zone) and create NEW land with that zoning. Then people too naughty for pg and too prudish for adult have the option of settling there and it doesn't impose any new rules on the rest of us.
If LL isn't doing it, then maybe all of you should pool your money and start your own continent with this zoning.

I am sorry to say, we don not have a General Discussion Forum and the RA forum has been zoned as a forum specifically not for general discussion. Because of this, this thread will be locked.

The OP admits to Flaming, which is also against the rules (the admitting is ok, it's the flaming thats the problem).

*locks*

Hello Tufif. I'm pretty certain that the (one I think) poster who aired this idea you mention was being sarcasticly OTT, something I'm afraid I do sometimes. Not even meant in jest but perhaps an outburst of anger. I'm sure they meant no offence.

Your idea of a new 'buffer zone' has merit but would surely introduce two new limits rather than the simpler clearing up of the PG areas. I was suggesting merely the vendors of offending wares moving to the Mature areas.
Trouble is anything new is going to have disadvantages. I can't really see a consortium of new creators opening a new continent, let alone poicing it themselves. They'd need extended powers for one thing.
