From: Brenda Connolly I don't think SL needs an easier interface, it just needs a fricking user's manual. That about sums it up. Half the time to do something new I have to do a web search as there is no one central GOOD piece of documentation. Sure there is the wiki, but it is hardly the best source of information. I like using debug settings, but they have combined some things that are actually usefull to the average person in there along with things that mostly matter to geeks. It tends to be like the folder named simply 'other' on your desk/computer.

It actualy is the other folder, all the stuff in there is intended for debugging not for general use, some of the stuff in there can actualy make sl unusable, that some of these debug settings are very usable is a reason why they should be in a menu of their own and why many 3th party viewers have them in a custom menu or button or settings tab. In fact the advanced menu used to be called debug menu. No wonder it is so poorly documented

I am not at home right now, but I have came across a few other things that should be in there. For example, getting rid of 'search all' in the upper-right of the screen, which used to be a preference setting. Or increasing the flash count for IM tabs when they decided it was MUCH better to only have it flash a few times.

The new viewer might be great - it's best to keep an open mind.

From: Osprey Therian The new viewer might be great - it's best to keep an open mind. It might be. I hope there's more to it than UI changes, and I hope the UI changes make it better for everyone. I find Howard's statement "we have kept almost all existing functionality" to be a little disturbing. (ZOMG, conjecture, even though it's a direct quote!" . Reduced functionality makes me grumpy. I'm a little cynical because I'm still stinging from some of the reduced functionality in 1.23. Now, if Howard announces something like it'll be available in 64-bit versions for all platforms, I'll be thrilled and Howard will be my new favorite Linden.

For me the substance of the UI is VERY important, but the format could be changed and improved a lot with my hearty approval. Reduced functionality makes me grumpy, too, but no one cares what I think - it makes no difference to anyone but me if I feel that way, so I'm better off focusing on the plus side.

From: Osprey Therian The new viewer might be great - it's best to keep an open mind. Ya, that. It might be lousy, but it might not. I'm really curious about it all, but I'm gonna stay on the hopeful side.

From: Phil Deakins Isn't that the viewer in which parcel-level script tools will be available? well some sort of script monitoring at rate... at least it was supposed to be in there... great I have to hack another UI? because if it looks anything like that I am going to be SO unhappy (and I sincerely doubt they've learned not to lock size, position, or availability of items from their past record. a huge search bar, that would be rarely used, yet takes up the screen width and unnecessary height? yeah that seems very like them) From: Brenda Connolly So I guess you CAN polish a turd. indeed you can.... http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-polishing-a-turd.html

http://picasaweb.google.com/Runitai/DeferredRendering#5425615515782803890 is dated January 11th so probably fairly close to what we'll have... Inventory, friends, etc from other screenshots are still docked on the right side and accessible through the buttons there which would seem to cause the panel to slide out (*crosses fingers until they turn blue that you can undock them*) and should look somewhat like what was reported in the Massively article ( http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/sl2-landmarks-tphistory.jpg). The Lindens also seem to have included their anti-text bias as well with a tiny, tiny chat bar (which matches what was shown during SLCC). --- Not my style of "clothing" but as far as detail goes "I want" http://picasaweb.google.com/Runitai/DeferredRendering#5425982897029728354

someone has a fondness for Robins old texture alignment image (I liked Chosen's update on it personally) why must they try to cop from static browser UI's that even the browsers now allow to be edited... grr the stupidity. ETA: anyone else notice in those pictures that the global light source seems to be extremely close to the objects (casting shadows at noticeably different angles). hope that'll be editable, once the feature is available.

I wonder if the build editor is still a giant box that always manages to be in the way no matter where you put it.
