Grid Down?

A standard for competency would be actually being able to log on when paying $40 US dollars a month for land I own, plus being a paying member. Please don't lose your rag because some of us wish to air our frustration on this resident site. It IS frustrtaing and most aggravating to see over 26000 people on line and a few unable to do so. This issue has got to be resolved. I think that Linden must address the issue of overload and must be prepared to shut systems down when things start going down. A decent repair job - even if it takes a week - is preferable to band-aid solutions.

You want to know the current performance of the grid? *chuckle*

OK - I can get in, but once I get in:

* my avatar on my screen consists of a hairpiece and a watch - that's all
* my $L balance is blank, so I have no funds to make transactions with
* none of the scripts within my house run
* I cannot teleport - anywhere - I've tried multiple locations
* I cannot search, on places, people, popular places or anything else
* I can't work with anything in my inventory (actually haven't tried due to warnings about this from LL)

So there you have it - if you can get in, you can wander around as far as you'd like by walking or flying (if you don't mind looking at hair & a watch as your avatar!) and you can IM friends who have managed to get online - and that's about it! At the moment SL is a glorified IM client with a half-baked visual representation of a personal avatar!

I think Linden Labs should describe system issues like this, in terms of what still works.

I can get in, no problem. I have Lindens, I even bought a couple of textures. Had to do something to kill time - since I CAN'T GET HOME. Haven't been able to get home since last night. Teleporting from shop to shop, no problem. I am dressed, but it is in a lovely tropical print that I have never seen before - including my face.

If I were stuck somewhere it would be great if it could have been in my own place, where I actually have stuff that needs doing. Hopefully things will be back up later *crosses tropical textured fingers*

can't get in...freezing on the logging in screen...this is when you wish that LL had turned on comments on the blog entry so the question of whether or not the grid is up could be asked...but of course they dont' want to read our whining so of course comments are off...

Change your time to pacific time gmt-8, then you can login (atleast i could) , but it is a mess indeed !

It didn't work for me ... still getting the "account not available until xxx" message. Occasionally still get the clock error too. Go figure.

I'll copy and paste what I wrote in the technical forum.

BEFORE logging on, goto preferences / general.

And change the starting location to the name of a sim that is a Private Island sim, NOT part of the mainland.

Then (once you get on, keep trying may take a while) you should see yourself fully rezzed, and your inventory is complete

I've been on a private island over 2 hours now, fixed it for me. Still can't tp to other places, but at least I have all my objects and inventory working fine, so i'm busy building stuff in a sandbox.

..and no i'm not saying which specific sim island I'm on, prefer it didn't get overloaded with people!

i was camping this morning and then when i stood up i didn't get my money so i decided to camp again. I kind of want to log of SL right now but i'm afraid that if i get up again i wont get the money *and its a decent amount or else i wouldn't worry.* does anyone know for sure that if i stand up if i will/will not get the money?

Around 1am last night things started going haywaire in sl for me, and as i found out..everyone else...it is now 7:30pm (est). I just tried to log in only to be told that i won't be able to log in for 20 minutes. Now, i have gotten the message saying to try again in 5 minutes before..this 20minute thing is a first for me.

Is there a purpose for this letter? Nah... just sorta felt like whining a lil. OK, and i am curious to know if anyone else is now getting the 20 minute thing instead of the usual 5 minute one. As of right now my screen is saying just over 30 thousand are logged in... wish i was one of those 30 thousand..lol...

My guess is that it is that just over or under 30,000 that is exactly the problem. I got on about 30 mins ago but was lagging so much I logged off.

I'm thinking of trying to get back on soon............not holding out a lot of hope though.

I am bored, so of course i just keep trying to log in...i am now getting a different pop up for each attempt... the latest one told me to be sure i am usingthe correct password! LOL.. this is becoming quit entertaining to say the least. I have a funny feeling a lot of us are not getting in at all tonight... I am so glad i give the Lindens so much money each month.. *sighs

This is really scary... the place i logged in is full with people that are not there... i know one of them is not logged in (and cannot log in) but is standing there... 7 people on a spot... all Undead... and i am invisible and have no L$ Balance....

I mean its probably not Windows they run, but i would suggest a Reboot of the grid...

[UPDATE 4:35pm PST] It looks like we had a faulty piece of networking equipment that was difficult to identify and we have taken it offline. Some simulators will still experience some of the earlier issues (due to stuck asset return/uploading queues) and we are still working on it but some issues should subside. -Jean

I finally got in after many attempts... however: no Linden balance, can't see my friends list, can't see the map, no landmarks, can't see myself at all, not even going to try accessing my inventory. No point to it, so I logged off again. *Sigh...* /me bangs head on desk...

I have managed to get logged in under my alt. I can see my original av outside my house not fully rezzed and my mailbox says I am online (obviously this is not the case). I can only assume this is what is preventing me from logging on as my original av. There are many, many ghost avs - 22 in my home sim (mainland), none of whom are moving/communicating. Search is not working and I am unable to access my inventory. TP is working occasionally by using the map. From what I can see flying around, this is a big problem and there is no way there are over 20,000 people online right now. My friends list is telling me some of them are on but when I IM them they are not answering so they too must be ghosts. I tried to IM my friend who is also standing outside my house and my friends' list is telling me he's online - no answer from him either. I know this isn't much help to those of you trying to get on but I think someone needs to sort this out.

I keep trying to get in and my screen freezes is this the case for neone else or do i have a problem here
