Ladies -- Ugly Av Feet?

Guess this thread is for the ladies, mostly... why are av feet so ugly???! OMG!! And they're even more hideous with open toed pumps/stilettos -- the feet get molded into the shape of the shoe!!! I've purchased a few toenail/pedicure polishes only to find that they've made the av toes look like .... talons!!! Ok, there was one nail polish that made the toes appear more acceptable, but not that great. Then I thought perhaps it was the particular av skin. Went skin hunting and never found any that had the right type of feet. Now I'm obsessed with looking at other av's feet each time I'm online! Because if I ever see an av with realistic looking feet, I'll immediately approach that av, ask where she bought her skin, and tp immediately to that store to buy that same skin! (Even though I love the av skin I have right now.) Any suggestions?

LL had to keep the polygon count of the avatar mesh as low as possible. Therefore, the hands are quite simple and the feet are only flippers. Even the best skin fails to turn flippers into real feet with 10 toes. With high polygon avatars, we would speak of spf instead of fps.

So glad to know I'm not the only one dissatisfied about this particular feature! And thanks for explaining why every other anatomical part seems ok, except for the... flippers. Guess I'll end my quest then...

As Aleister said, feet in SL are a sad afterthought. No wonder I wear boots most of the time...

I've noticed that some skin makers (including some supposedly top selling ones), are very poor about detailing the foot area. I suppose I have a bit of an appendage fetish, because one of the things I look for in any skin are well detailed hands and feet.

You might try Skin Within or Naughty Designs. Both these skins have above average detailing IMO.

My first room mate had the most detailed toes I have seen yet and by comments on her blog I'm guessing the skin came from Skin Within...

So now that the ladies are all looking in one area...what's up with people with female avs not making the arms long enough?? Do they just want long legs and forget about proportion?

This has been a common trait even among proven females that I've come in contact with since I started in SL.

Hot tip for noobs (that includes me..) always keep your shoes on..no matter what your doing..no matter WHAT!!

I think it's connected with the enduring affection for 6'+ tall AVs and the tendency to stretch the legs to achieve it. (I stand 5' 7" in SL and consequently have beautifully proportioned arms )

Go into the old stuff in your closet, and find your old barbie. Now place her next to your monitor. Now compare the proportions of the 6' blond bombshell AV to the barbie doll. Ahhh. I thought so.

So... shouldn't there be a market for sculptie feet? I guess the color-match and texture lighting would be fiendishly difficult (maybe punt with an alpha fade?)... but seems almost sure to be better than flippers.

Aside from hard polygonal edges and spreading ones toes, the foot (there is only one) on the avatar UVW is probably the highest resolution area of the entire lower body section. It's a shame if skinners don't pay attention to it . Whatever the reason, the avatar foot does not need to look ugly even though it's basically a flipper. This is a low poly, high rez texture area of the avatar and is a perfect example of an area (like the ears) that benefits from the illusion of detailed texturing of highlight and shadow. I offer my rendition of Evie's feet (my soon to be released third generation female skin).

NOT a foot person, well unless it is kitty feet (I know silly me) or baby feet, those ones are ok

Robin Sojourner sells some barefoot foot-socks, if I recall correctly, the looked good in the picture.

Not sure how they look in game, though, since I'm a furry and normally have fox-feet.

Buy a pedicure. If you get a good one, it really really helps, it's cheaper than a new skin, and can be worn with any skin! In addition to coloring your toenails, a good pedicure will somehow add definition to your toes. Pedicures are socks, so will help you out with your open toed sandals. They come in a set with matching manicure (gloves).

Both Awesome and Inks&Kinks have reasonably priced ones, but I'm sure if you search the forums you'll find a lot! *ponders how bad it would be to hijack thread to find out best pedicures in SL*

/me never had Barbies. My GI Joes and Transformers were perfectly and realistically proportioned!

I have a feeling I'm going to regret asking this, but what are the perfect proportions for a Transformer ??

Eek... now I'm wondering about the length of my arms...

Question: How do you magically morph the pedicure to fit the custom texturing for each skin? Unless the pedicure actually includes the full skin texture on the foot, it is likely not going to match.

Just take a look at how you look in the mirror and how far down your arms go when you have them at your side. You'll see the difference pretty quick!

Forget the feet!!! Put some ass on some of these women, most have none. They concentrate solely on their breasts but nothing for the hips or their butt.

It's all about the booty!

Maybe it would cut down on some of the haziness of the "ageplay" contraversy if more female avs looked like healthy adult women and not the Paris Hilton beanpole look.

hi namssor! All manis/pedis I've seen appeared completely transparent except for nails and some definition lines. Never had a problem with them making sock or glove "lines" on light or dark skins. I hear some cheap ones have nails that don't line up with all AVs toes. My AV is standard human and has had either 0 and non-zero size feet, depending on circumstances, and pedis always look fine. I think I paid somewhere around 100L for them.

I have some experience as an Artist (Painting, sketch, and Sculpting) and i can tell you The two hardest parts of the human anatomy to render Accurately, and Attractively are Hands, and Feet. I'm not surprised that it's been difficult to Model Attractive feet on a Digital Model.
