From: Steve Mahfouz This issue has been discussed ad infinitum in these forums, so a few of us may be a bit jaded by now. I certainly have total sympathy for Gina and I don't do business that way and I'm 100% sure Desmond doesn't either. I wouldn't do business that way either, but this issue does come up again and again and that's why I think it warrants a sticky. It's a big pitfall, it should be pointed out loud and clear. I'm also in favour of a system of delayed transactions but that's going to take others to raise their voices too. If sales weren't immediate a lot of this could be avoided.

If sales weren't immediate a lot of this could be avoided. Maybe if they put a 60 second delay on putting the "for sale" figure into the sales database ? Hopefully within 60 seconds you'd see your error and reverse it. I think 99% of these errors would be rectified that way.

I got caught the other way round, I was buying 2 adjacent 32m plots for L$ 450 each out but I accidentally clicked on the wrong one and ended up paying £3500 for it because I didn't check the details until the blue pop-down appeared, by which time it was too late. I thought I'd been the victim of a scam and wrote about it on here - I mean a seller hovering nearby and changing price while people looking - but that wasn't the case. Re the 70K to & 7K thing, are you certain you didn't type 7K by mistake - because if a bot can snatch land in the process why wouldn't it have swooped when you typed in the first digit (7), and bought the land for 7 L$?

From: Gina Jacks Listen, whoever you are, I am replying to you because you are the last one here, and with some added nonsense, and most of the people who put me down are on now on my ignore list, including you. I am no masochist
1 - don't try to be smart and use words I didn't use, ok? I didn't say stolen anywhere did I?
2 - I do not care for people who use or support bots users, that' s my choice.
3 - This thread is to give a message out there, and tell about this bunch and what they do.
4 - Don't assume that I don't know what I am doing, it's foolish of you, maybe it was a mistake, maybe it wasn't. As far as I can tell there are two are three sad characters taking pleasure in putting me down, and insulting me. Never-mind, to you, my message is this one:
I am too special and you are muted, go back where you belong, with people like you who enjoy misery.
The few of you who were kind to me and sympathized, thank you, it's all I am asking, a little re-comfort, it's a such a nice feeling to know that there are people out there sharing the same passion for peace and love. Inflammatory posts like this sure don't help your case or generate sympathy for your plight. You've probably already muted half the forum by now so you wouldn't hear what you're begging for now anyway!! Moral of the story: Pay better attention next time.

From: Robustus Hax Landbots suck, no doubt about it, but if you're playing around with property that is worth 70k then you should be educated and know they exist, which would then cause you to be very careful when selling property. Its hard to have sympathy for people who KEEP making this mistake, coming on here crying that the land was STOLEN. It's not people who KEEP making the same mistake. It's different people, every time, and different people who never heard of this problem before.

From: Har Fairweather It's not people who KEEP making the same mistake. It's different people, every time, and different people who never heard of this problem before. Very well put. You are very fine. Unfortunately, it is always the SAME people who KEEP putting people down in forums. Look how they follow one after the other... Embarrassment to the "modern" society. As Dab say for that matter; only dead fish follow the stream. His catch phrase. There are a lot of you out there with venom in their mouth, I do not care for you, I will keep putting you on my ignore list, and you will be talking to yourself and be as clever or silly as you want. BTW: for who cares, we already know what country the "bots" people come from, the software might be "smart", but jerks behind the keyboard are not!

I am not sure what do you want Gina? I symphatize with you and, from what I'm reading, understand that you made an innocent mistake and a landbot took advantage of it.
From all the responses you got, there is something clear. Nobody believes that there is anything you can do to revert the situation, so most people are just saying learn and move on.
Stating that you made a mistake is not the same as "supporting" landbots. But, considering all that has being said, the proper procedure for buying land has been followed.
I just don't find fair the way you are treating everyone that is not screaming their lungs out asking for a public lynching of the buyer of your land.
Peace and love!

From: SqueezeOne Pow Moral of the story: Pay better attention next time. Coming from someone who didn't properly read the original post and thought it was about a land trade rather than a sale, that's only slightly ironic.

I used to play Lineage2, with just a few friends I knew from there. I was a middling level Silver Ranger light elf. I did okay selling dragon hatchlings, but was too 'solo' to ever really have the clout of a guild person whose friends could play practically 24/7. Well, we got kicked around some. "Get outta here, you can't hunt here, we'll kill you." And sure enough, we got killed. This went on for weeks. Well, Lineage2... hardcore game. I got kinda dispirited and stuck at about level 55, because the good hunting grounds were just... dominated. So I went back and made a plainswalker light elf, and played that a while. Now, a plainswalker is a fast, fast, fast character - fastest in the game. By and by, I got to level 40. With that... I got this funky ability... 'fake death'. What good is THAT? I blew it off for a long time. Sure enough, I got picked on again, near Death Pass. "Get away you loser elf or we'll kill you." I ran off, but in doing so, I ended up dragging about half a dozen monsters with me. Heeey... what if... NOO... it can't be THAT easy can it? I collected some more, circling around, and soon had this moderately sized army of creatures following me. BIG ones. I circled back around to the taunting fellows. Just as I got there, I faked death. I'm not sure what was more cool, the cursing of the bullies as they got pounded, or the laughter from everyone hunting in the same area. Many of them had been intimidated too. I didn't take them all down, and nearly got killed myself when the spell wore off. So I took off running again. And got MORE monsters. And came back. Soon I realised that even if I died, so what? These guys were dropping cool stuff that I never had access to. So I'd run back in, take all I could before getting killed myself. The best part was walking around in tank armour in town after that. You know how ridiculous a plainswalker elf looks, in heavy armour meant for a human or an orc? I'd get the pants or gloves or whatever junk they dropped - I never got much but wow, break someone's armour set and hooo boy they get mad! I'd strut around Giran town with it, parading it by the crew who taunted me. Wow that language was something to hear! They knew it was THEIR pants I had on. Naturally, I'd complain how stupid and useless it was to me. Sometimes I'd give it to noobs right in front of them. The noob would put stuff like that on, and barely be able to walk... I'd tell them to just dump it at the shop for some serious adena. Pretty soon my friends had plainswalkers too, or I'd just loan them my plainswalker password. It wore noob armour and didn't carry a weapon, just for the sheer lulz of it all. We went around like Robin Hood, never taking down the cool or decent people, but we could dispatch any jerk near mobs in about 3-4 minutes. Oh, and bots too - easiest of the easy. * * * * * When it comes down to it - the most important thing you got in ANY world is your reputation. Is your reputation worth a mere 200 USD? Or is it worth it to continually get an alt and trash everything you have done in SL for 200 USD? It's not easy to restore a rep once you lose it. Warm regards, Cartagas, lvl 40 light elf plainswalker ^^

Would it be possible to change the system to have another choice which is to sell the land to everyone except certain people?
And could the sell too box be put before the price box and the price couldn't be set until the person had chosen to whom to sell it to.
Gina is an experienced land trader so if it can happen to her, it can happen to any of us.

I agree with you Desmond, but people create an alt to protect themselves or walk away from a stinky reputation.

Let's be honest, here. A "mistake" is putting a shoe on your hand, or rezzing a box on your head. Getting ripped off for a rather substantial amount of Lindens by an unethical, weasel of a landbaron, who is doing nothing more than gaming the system is a mistake only in the sense that it's allowed to happen. The culture of greed being promoted by LL's refusal to limit landbot use rests squarely on the shoulders of the Lindens. A very simple solution was proposed...slightly alter the way land sales are engineered so the owner has the ability to accept/decline offers on his or her available parcels. It's simply shameful that landbot rape continues to happen in SL, and it's frankly a bit disturbing to see the lassez faire attitude so many seem to hold for it. The attraction to move to a private sim, and away from the blasted wasteland of casinos, campers and *ss-hat landbarons is becoming stronger with each and every passing day. Finding a place away from their bling-wearing, wannabe, gangsta mugs is gonna be like a dream come true. My sympathies to the OP...and I guess I'll add this by way of an answer...just automatically assume everyone here is out to screw you out of some money in some way or another. It'll make the rare times you encounter someone genuinely helpful that much more special.

How were you able to see thru my disguise so easily... of course I am here to screw Gina out of ALL her money. That's the only reason I ever got an SL account. Archer, I bow to your wisdom and insight. /sarcasm off

for "naming names" and being a "personal dispute".
i understand it can be hard to have these situations handled, but unfortunately Resident Answers is not meant for these purposes, nor will you be able to get a real solution here. you'll have to make contact with LL via support. (in-world, use the menu: "Help > Report Abuse" or out-world(?) i believe it's support@lindenlab.com)
