So what is SL Reality, anyway.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

However Cleverly put, this is just another "Why did you lock my last thread?" Thread. and it will, In Turn be locked.
It was ruled innapropriate for this venue, That's Why it was locked, and trying to start it up again won't work.

Reality, Har, is the cumulative experience of events within a continuum. Reality is, given sufficient understanding and data, predictable; one can model reality using formulas and even physical proxies. Reality includes a range of psychological phenomena, such as spiritualism that arise from either chemical processes (outgrowths of the brain) or paranormal processes (outgrowths of divinity) -- I think it's beyond the scope of this discussion to conclude the merits of either and leave that as "an exercise for the reader".

Religion certainly has a place within SL. I imagine, but haven't checked, that there are virtual venues for the discussion and practice of a variety of religious beliefs. Certainly, the ads for Hari Krishna seminars that I've seen indicate that this is likely. For those who carry a particular faith in their hearts, I don't see how sharing, expressing, and proselytizing that faith should be treated any different in SL than it is in any other medium of social intercourse.

Now the interesting thing is where two or more belief systems collide within SL. Has anyone seen any examples of this? I've seen political factions war against each other inside of SL ... I imagine there isn't much to keep the religious from doing the same thing. I'd be interested in discussing how Second Life and religion interact here, including examples of SL religious debate and struggle and the outcomes. Are there religious griefers hurling copies of the Kuran or the Bible? Are followers of Richard Dawkins getting into penis fights with Creationists? What is the proper way to respond to someone trying to push their religious beliefs on you within SL? Can I box a Jehovah's Witness if he keeps bugging me?

Thanks, Seth. I haven't heard of religion wars in SL, though Political wars hve been reported. But some of the Christian sites (ones that do not make pests of themselves to others, I might add) report a lot of greifing. Notice how no-one is up in arms about that particular form of religioous intolerance.

*waits for the "This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate — Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. :) I'll close this thread..."*

That would be too easy, and doesn't address another problem with the topic: Reposting

There is the underlying question: Why don't we have a General Discussion forum? Why was it closed?
I have tried to answer that here: /274/a7/175409/1.html#post1460600

A line has to be drawn somewhere. Take a look at the individual forums, they all have descriptions and most have a clarifying sticky as to what they are to be used for. Resident Answers is for residents to ask questions about Second Life and to answer commonly asked questions about SL. Nowhere does it say that RA is to be used as a General Discussion forum for SL or anywhere else. Since there is a lack of a GD forum, the definition of RA has morphed a bit. There are many factors that go into judging if a thread is appropriate for RA, here are a few of the major ones:

1) Is it about SL?
2) Does it violate any rules or advocate violating them?
3a) Does the question have a definitive answer that has a practical application in SL? OR 3b) Is it a new and active catalyst for change in the SL community?
4) Would it be better suited in a SL General Discussion forum?

Lets run Religion through the list:
1) Vaguely about SL
2) troll & flame bait; classic trolling target.
3a) No
3b) No, Religion is an old catalyst.
4) Yes

SL's relation to Reality?
1) Vaguely about SL
2) SL classic trolling target
3) No
4) Yes

If religion or reality topics failed only one of these questions it might be permissible, but they failed to meet the criteria on all four.
