The new Open Gates program does have a HUD. And they are coming thru the new gateways in droves, all the mentors need translators constantly. On Virtual Ability, we have a 'SAM' bell. (Second Ability Mentor) that when rung, summons any mentors online from the group at that time that there is a newbie in need of assistance at the gate. But they are coming so fast and furious it's hard to keep up. Majority are interested in only a few aspects of SL: How do I have sex? or I want combat, how do I fight? (Ummm how about learning to walk and change your underwear first?) It can be kind of disheartening to the mentors trying to help someone learn basics who are only there for one focused purpose, not to learn all that SL has to offer.

I was terraforming the other day on my sim and newbie shows up out of nowhere, walks up (I was about to say hi) and says: You want sex? Sigh. I was like DO I LOOK LIKE I WANT SEX??? Was sitting in a terraforming chair dealing with a land flattener in jeans and a tshirt. Give me a break.

I am in in a similar situation to Spike's first post here. Except my question is about emotes.
I have seen people use them( mostly for "relations" But I have no idea how to do them myself. Is it like a script thing? Or is there a simple command?
Would appreciate any help here.

/me answers with an example.

Just put a /me in front of what you want to say to get rid of the colon, ie

/me wants a beer

would turn into

Pserendipity Daniels wants a beer

Are there action emotes as well? One that have animations?

looks like...

instead of....

If you are looking for animations for, um, relations, you're gonna need a 'something' to help you with that. Some furniture like beds, rugs, and couches have animations built in that 'do it for you' (no pun intended) that you pick from a menu.

You can also buy 'bits' (going to a furry term here, for lack of a better word) that have the same thing. For example, there is a male bit for humans called the 'Realism Silver' or 'Gold' that is just wonderful.

If you are looking for free stuff, go to the Search tab inworld and type in 'Free Sex Animations' and see what you get.

For animations, what you want to look for are "gestures".

You double-click them in your inventory to activate them, or pick "open" from the inventory right click menu to edit the trigger used to activate them. You can also activate them from the "gestures" pulldown next to the chat bar.

Yes. They're called "gestures", such as /clap .

Gestures show up in your inventory. Once you have a gesture in inventory, you can Edit -> Gestures and "activate" it, and then it will work when you type the appropriate string in chat. You can also create your own using the Edit -> Gestures window.
