From: Ava Glasgow Rats, and here I am stuck at work until 6 or 7 pm SL time. We'll definitely have to plan for a Forum Cartel party some weekend! Is the Huey one of those old military helicopters? If so, I gotta put that on my list of stuff to buy.
That's the one. You can buy one at either Abott's Aerodrome, or at Pahse 5 HQ. The same maker in either place they are super easy to fly and a lot of fun as long as you can keep them in the air. Ava , I was thinking of calling fo another Meet and Greet tomorrow at 7SL time or so. If you'd like to host it, that would be great.

From: Ava Glasgow Wow, I used to kayak in RL and yet somehow have completely neglected to get one here in SL. Now I definitely MUST have one! Can you tell me about yours? Oh, it's awesome! Made by a "Snaptick Laxness" - I first discovered these on the old Walden region, an hadda have one. It's got good movement, paddling animation, a slight particle effect to create the water ripples, sound, customization... All kinda of stuff. Plus it comes with the paddle, a life vest, an shoes for both male and female avvies. Check Mister Laxness' profile for a link to where he sells 'em. Well worth the Lindens. From: someone Absolutely Mari! Salerio is a PG sim, and though I can't guarantee my neighbors' good behavior, Nautilus Harbor is meant to be child-safe. There's no lifeguard on duty, though, so I guess we're lucky we can breathe underwater! Cool! Great! An I wear my life vest while kayaking, jes in case Mari

conventional vehicles not a problem...

Your basic old school style boats, aircraft ect. are all under 30-ish prims. Your newfangled mass movers using physical style motion can be just about anything. But for riding around on the open sea, the basic boats handle much better and more realistically. I have a speedboat that cruises around pretty quick, leaves a wake in its path, and sprays water around, seats four and anybody can drive. Under 30 prims and stylish to boot. Unless somebody plans to launch some big, slow, lumbering pirate ship or something, there is no need to buy more prim land. Unless your thinking of charging a launch fee to attempt to recoup your investement.

From: Winter Phoenix Unless your thinking of charging a launch fee to attempt to recoup your investement. Nope, always free. No SL business for me. I do wonder about those larger drivable yachts and antique ships, but I suspect that even 300 spare prims wouldn't be enough for those. From: Brenda Connolly Can anyone recommend a good boat dealer for a small speed boat? I like the one I got from Verkin Raven. The motion and spray are very nice, and the scripted options are great. You can even change the paint job! He's got a bunch of different configurations, and the prices are pretty reasonable. Here's his SLX listing: http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=964

Check out the SL Yacht Squadron and others who race the Tako boat every week. http://www.slsailing.org/It's a pretty neat and detailed representation of small-boat racing! Recommended!

Ava, sounds like you have a lot of folks excited about your grand idea. I hope you are setting up a prominent tip jar.

From: Raymond Figtree Ava, sounds like you have a lot of folks excited about your grand idea. I hope you are setting up a prominent tip jar. Well, it's tempting, but I'll refrain just for my own enjoyment of SL. Kind of the same reason I became a librarian... it gives me strange pleasure to help people and make them happy. Admittedly it's a neurotic way to get an ego boost, but in the end, everybody wins. So basically I'm the little girl who gives you a scribbled crayon drawing. Don't need money, just want to hear that it's the bestest drawing you've ever seen and that you'll treasure it for life. And that's exactly what you all have done, and I thank you for being so very generous with the positive feedback. And now we have fun!!!

And we've got our first ban! Rezzing multiple copies of my freebie floating dock and leaving them littered on my neighbor's store is a definite no-no, especially for an experienced builder who should know better. /me tells her neighbor, "Auto-return. It's not just for breakfast anymore!"

Ahoy, Ava! Nice dock! You've given me some ideas for my own waterfront. I stopped by and launched my kayak and took off. There's a decent amount of water there and it's great of you to make it publicly accessible. Thank you!
Is the free boat crate next to the free dock one? (I assume it is?) I didn't realize until I reread your first post here that there were free boats. It didn't act like a buyable object when I clicked it.
Also, you have a PM.

Great offer Ava! I have a place on the water and a lot of boats...but I never tried hang gliding before so I went up to your hang glider launch and took off...it's a lot of fun! I'll probably be getting one soon...but until then I know where to go...

Thanks for that place! I have wanted to buy a Steamray (steampunkt boat, submersible, plane, all rolled into one) before, but being far away from the ocean never saw much use for it. Now it looks like I might actually get to use it...

I just replaced it two days ago, and obviously I forgot to actually set it for sale (for L$0, of course). I'll get that fixed tonight.

Am I doing something wrong? I rezzed my brand new Flying Tako and although I could steer it the sails wouldn't work. Then I noticed that scripts are disabled here. Is that the problem? I tried it at another sim where scripts are enabled and it worked great, but it was only a small pond!

From: Suzi Sohmers Is that the problem? Yeah, thats what it is. For some odd reason LL has scripts disabled on the waters of the new continent. Just set yer sails, and whatever other option you want at the dock (before you go into Linden water).

Not to derail this thread, but I too have made a public boat launch, it's on the mainland at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pimushe/38/128. It's on a huge inland lake, with over 20 linden void sims to enjoy. Look for the Pimushe Marina sign. Also please note there is a 30 min auto return set. This was a great idea Ava, I think more of us should do the same for the boating public

Flying Tako 3.2
06-27-2007 08:18
i looked at some sailboats. The Flying Tako 3.2 seems to work pretty well. It has controls for steering, sail adjustment, and a spinnaker. Seems to obey sailboat physics fairly well.
Crashes when I run aground, but that is probably my fault. Use search to find one to buy.
There is a marina in Torch, just SE of Oceanside Bar.
I am working on my own sailboat physics script. We'll see how it goes. Any (and a hud programmer) welcome,
lee

It didn't seem to cause a problem with my speedboat, but it's possible I didn't try any of the menu options out on the Linden water. It's surprising that they would make such a large expanse of open water and then disable proper sailing on it. Well, as it's LL, I guess not TOO surprising.
