I booted several times, cleared cache etc... Since this new downtime, my biggest folder is missing from my inventory, I am very organized and the stuff were no copy, it took me seven months to accumulate the stuff, no freebie in there, all VERY expensive products. That's out of order, please can someone tell me what to do?
I am already tired of their "your issue has been solved" every time you send an AR, and last time I reported an inventory loss they never replied to me!
Thanks, Gina

My inventory, whilst only 5k items, took a *long* time to load up earlier.
I'm guessing it's something "fixed" by the latest "update".
Sorry to hear of your problems though.

Do another clear cache and log on to an empty sim; if the sim you happened to be on was having problems, clear cache doesn't actually do a whole lot. Edit / Preferences, Network and Clear Cache, General and check "Show start location". Close SL, reopen, and under your name you'll have the option to type in a sim name, try: Hahne When you log on, you'll end up on an all water sim, open your inventory and just type anything random in the search, clear it (or just go to the recent items tab) and wait for it to stop say Fetched.
Otherwise file a bug report under Missing Content, wait for the automated e-mail back and note the ticket ID number (haven't actually bothered to file one for a while, so not sure they didn't just deprecate it).
Try and open a support ticket, referring to the bug ticket number and the steps you've taken so far, but be prepared for "wait for the bug report to get handled" response.
Cross your fingers that everything will return, in some cases it magically does after a few days. If it doesn't come back by itself, you're unfortunately out of luck.

Broccoli Right, did it load gradually or just re-appeared in one shot? I have re-booted 6 times already and still nothing. I sent a bug report... Last time I sent one it took them over 2 weeks to come back, and it was too late - CLASSIC. The worse thing is that this folder contained my Landscaping props/houses from several creators, all non copy. This is real HELL in SL !!! Jesus Christ, come and save us please.

Loaded very, very slowly, not instantenously after a long delay.
It could be connected to the 'search' problems going on.

Thanks, I have done all that, and actually the SIM is pretty empty. I am going to try somewhere else and see what happen, this is biggest nightmare I ever had so far. Thanks for the advice - will keep updated.

Typing in the inventory search box seems to make it load faster. When it slows down or stops loading again, type in there some more, delete the search text, and watch it fill up some more. Just adding to the tips above. Sorry to hear about your problems Gina.

I've been suffering from migrating folders lately...as in, I think they're missing, but they turn out to be inside another folder. The first time or two, I thought it was something I'd done accidentally, but after the 3rd or 4th, I stopped being so sure. I'm not THAT much of a spazz. Anyway, if you haven't done so already, try looking through your other folders and see if the one you're worried about might have wandered off without actually getting lost.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. The unacceptable thing about SL is that you don't even get like an insurance for a situation like that, I real feel like we give to them, but we get less and less in return. ATM I can say that I cannot work anymore, I am stressed and don't want to spend an other 100K + because of dodgy downtime probs. It's like - you cannot even enjoy landscaping anymore - why are the freebie stuff still in my inventory lol, should I use those instead. A situation like that does not encourage one to buy contents, that' sthe way I feel about it. If I had choice I would have prefer to loose my clothes folder, really, and it is as big as this folder i just lost.

Yes, I had this nasty problem too, folders going inside folders... Good you mention this. I am too organized to blame myself for such a loss + spent too much time organizing my inventory to deserve something like that. Every time there is a downtime, we get messed about a bit more. I am not technical or engineer, but I think that there are far too many downtime in SL. The way i see it is like; Do we get downtime for ISP, phone, TV? etc... How about downtime fro electricity as well, and you loose the content in your fridge lol.

Best advice here to ensure that you don't lose anything that cost money is not to spend money. Seems to me that is the best personal policy of all. Can't miss anything if you didn't pay for it. Just the fact that you spend RL cash here, and that SL is so flakey, carries it's own risk as it is...and it isn't negligible either. That and the risks of scams and policy uncertainties, make SL very risky to invest into as an individual.
I don't have any confidence in the integrity of Second Life as a business or personal platform.

What gets me about this kind of thing is LL can always fall back on "It's not real money" response.

Oh, please tell me that the money I buy Lindens with isn't real...that way I can say that I can have all my unreal money back...after all, it isn't real, is it? https://secure-web0.secondlife.com/currency/buy.php

If you find the SL cache folders (C ocuments and Settings/<your pc login name here>/Applications Data/Second Life and clear all those files, next time you login SL will rebuild those files, bad news: you will be treated like a newcomer by the system and have 'Helpful Hints' drop down boxes eachtime you do anything for a short while. Good news: sometimes SL updates your cache and finds a corrupt file, then spends the next mellinium trying to find it, stopping your Inventory updating. Clearing all files, SL will rebuild it fully without stopping. Another workround I found that works for me, click Recent Items tab in your inventory, look at the 'Items since last logoff' start to climb, then go to the 'My Folder' tab abd type in 'a' press enter, that makes the system see that you are not idle and gives your CPU cycles updating your inventory.

Just one suggestion before you panic: If you haven't already, try typing the exact name of the folder in the text field in the top of the inventory window (or type the exact name of one of the items that you know is in there). The reason I'm suggesting this is because, last night just after all the other troubles started, I thought the folder containing ALL of my purchased clothing, hair, etc., had gone missing. When I typed the name of the folder, though, I found it under my "landmarks" folder. I don't know if it was a slip of my mouse or an SL glitch that caused it. If you don't find it that way, then feel free to panic.

Thanks so much to everyone, will try everything you have mentioned and see if something magic happen. Otherwise, if it doesn't come back and LLs won't give me a refund, I will not forget this serious incident and won't be buying anymore. Yes, it was/is all virtual isn't it? But can come to a price - the money was not virtual though. Next, I will be building and selling, there is no way I am going to spend over a 100K to get everything back (if it doesn't turn up). So, let's say it's going to be a new turn in my SL, and will call this the wake up call... I have given plenty enough.

I had the same problem like you had too, I took a tree set form one of my parcel, then it went inside the folder "Lost and found"! LOL Really, I was/am an inventory maniac and use(d) all the tricks to find lost items.

That's not right, I can see the folder on the beta grid, but I logged back on the "normal" SL version and it's not there.

From: Gina Jacks That's not right, I can see the folder on the beta grid, but I logged back on the "normal" SL version and it's not there. The beta grid has its own asset server which is completely separate from the main grid. After the beta grid gets cleared/refreshed, your next login will show "Fetching inventory" which fetches your inventory from the main asset server and copies it over onto the beta grid asset server (until the next beta grid reset/refresh).

I did gather that and that's what is worrying me! I opened a ticket and took a picture, I hope they can do something while it's still fresh. Thanks for the mail anyway.

I lost items in one of the last few updates. The items were in the right folders, but when I tried to use them, I got the 'items missing from database' el crapo. I filed all the right reports and nothing happened, and the items are *still* missing. So basically, if the items don't come back in a few days or so, you're probably screwed. And don't worry, expect no help from LL on this matter, they don't care. I actually emailed some of the creators of the items I lost, and some were nice enough to replace them, even though one thing had been bought almost a year ago! I did lose some stuff which hasn't been replaced. I'm still spending money, but only because though a few things lost were expensive, it was relatively minor. Trust me, if I had or do in the future lose a lot of expensive stuff, I will stop spending any money and resort to using freebies. Like you said, it's uninsured. I would not open a business in SL and I limit how much I can spend, because I know it's so ridiculously unstable.
One tip though that saved a LOT of my items...some things that come in boxes- when you unpack them, the box still contains all the items. Since I'm a packrat, I had a lot of these boxes, and while the unpacked items were missing, I was able to unpack them again from the box (which luckily hadn't gone missing.) Now I save all my boxes lol.

Actually, quoting this because some electric companies will cover the content of the fridge if the power goes out unexpectedly. Of course you won't get full value, but it's better than the fat nothing we get here. What makes me angry is that they won't/don't want to retrieve items from the beta grid to replace things that their glitches HERE lost. If you can fetch from one way, why not the other?
