Hot off the Police Blotter: http://secure-web4.secondlife.com/community/blotter.php

Okay, I abuse report porn that might involve RL underage people and get nothing back, but this warrants a warning:

Date: Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Violation: Second Life: Respect, Pets
Region: —
Description: for saying "phone weasel"
Action taken: Warning issued.

Or is someone hacking the SL webpages?

It appears the the lindens take the use of phone weasel very seriously.

Doh! Now I'm gonna get a warning!

Hey, I wasn't the one that said it! I was merely checking the police blotter to see if they ever investigate anyone's complaints! I guess I'm not saying the right things in my abuse reports if they come down like the hammer of God for saying "phone weasel".

Whoops, I guess I've said it twice now - no 3 times - just reporting it. I better watch my back! ;)

Its easy for them to punish the phone weasels. Phone weasels are notioriously non-confrontational and never call to complain or post on the forums. A Phone weasel has never once in recorded history called Fox news.

Is a phone weasel in anyway related to a Garden Weasel?

http://www.gardenweasel.com/

Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, thats it,

Phone weasel is now my official online derogatory term.

As in, " Look at that noob over there, he's acting like such a phone weasel."

Hmm seems sort of funny and it doesn't have region.
I always wonder why they enforce littering issues in some places but not in other places.
Does anyone know?

if the region is blank its because it happened on the website not in the game

Would it be like a phone monkey? (You know, the people who answer the phone when you ring up the gas or electricity company, or for an insurance quote)

Perhaps someone called someone in support a phone weasel and they took it to heart :)

I'd be happier to think they're just messing around, though. Sweeter that way.

Methinks a phone weasel is a telemarketer, if anyone cares.

Blimey, "methinks" is an actual word (spell-check didn't flag it).

I was just about to come to the forum and ask why the heck saying 'phone weasel' will get you a warning...guess I'm not the only one! hehe. I saw this entry and had to scratch my head. Is this some vague TOS item that isn't covered by "verbal harrassment" and is its own special category? Did the person simply utter the words, not directed at anyone, and was warned? LOL. Inquiring minds want to know!
Oh I know...maybe it's a disparaging term for people who leave the "banana phone" in sandboxes.

I seem to remember a while ago a similar 'comical' entry regarding the abuse of hedgehogs on the police blotter, put on as a joke by a bored Linden.

http://drownophelia.blogspot.com/2006/07/is-this-real-point-of-police-blotter.html

Who, I think, ended up suffering disciplinary action for doing so.

I think that's entirely likely. it's the only action for March 21.. and it is in that ambiguous "respect, pets" category.

I'd suggest that there was a meeting at Linden Labs, and someone referred to the people manning the phones as "phone weasels"... to which someone mockingly threatened to issue a warning.

Of course, it's all made up in my head.. but I can see that linden going so far as to enter the warning into the Police Blotter as an injoke.. the Blotter's enough of a joke already.

Maybe it is to see if people read the police blotter.

Maybe someone called tech support and was like "I've had it up to here with you ..."

Many moons ago, I received a forum and game suspension for having made forum reference to the "billing squirrel" which was poorly stolen from a P.J. O'Rourke essay which used the metaphor "two children and a squirrel" as being the total staff of the Federal Savings and Loan Oversight Board.

The reason was "abusive toward the staff" which I found sort of amusing as I was totally unaware that there were any squirrels on the staff. Apparently, they take small carnivores pretty seriously. Don't even get me started on hippopotamuses...
