Oh for heaven's sake ... I thought you people were going on about a shoulder pet or something! hahahaha

No, I'd rather go with alpaca. Same general size, better product, still cute :)

Well fine! I'll deep-six the plan - figured it was win win- you got a cute critter and i got fuzzies to spin.

well.. all over japan .. the 金玉 are proudly on display.. in fact the larger tanuki statues are mostly rather worn down in that general area.. same same as rubbing a buddhas round tummy .. ppl find it hard to resist those sumptuous orbs. :D

Oh I know, it's just a cultural difference. I'm American, and most of my customers are American or otherwise westerners, and have different views or expectations of things. Besides the fact that I put my own spin on any design I make, I also cater a bit to what I think my customers will be expecting. And they would be very surprised if I had gone with the traditional tanuki depiction ;) That, and there are entirely too many dirty-minded furries on the grid that would have taken it the wrong way. :p

I did not, however, know that people liked to rub tanuki statues like buddhas. XD

Lolwut?

Furries: humanoid animals. Beatrix-Potter / Looney-Tunes "western" style animal-people.
Nekos: humans with cat-like characteristics. Japanese animation "eastern" style animal-people.

That's what I was askin'. I hadn't heard the "Furries are dogs, nekos are cats" theory before.

I was hoping for some elucidation and stuff on it.

It generally extends from the base of the spine and isn't 'up' anywhere.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

In Amsterdam is a store "local fanatic" that sells clip-on tails, that go on the back of your pants, or belt. I think it's a bit more comfortable than having one up your ass.

Yes but many times... there are no pants to clip them too...

So much information!

Thanks to everybody for stopping by.

I've been shopping for animations and at least one tail. I have a set of ears, but still haven't found the boots that started the whole thing off.

When I get myself all neko'd up, I'll post a pic.

"Neko" is a concept from Japanese cartoons and comic books. Essentially they are humans, almost invariably female, with cat ears and a cat tail, and feline manerisims. When a Neko has her mouth open or smiles, she usually has small fangs on the upper teeth, like the larger canine teeth on an animal, though the rest of her teeth look perfectly Human. (It is also the practice in Japanese cartoons and comics to occasionally show these fangs on otherwise normal Human girls, when they are acting "catty", but this does not make them Neko.) Neko usually only have fur on their tails and ears, though sometimes they have fur/paws on the feet and lower legs, or on the hands and forearms. More commonly, they actually have normal Human feet and hands, but may choose to wear gloves and shoes/boots that look like furry paws. Most Neko wear Human clothes, though they may tend to dress less modestly than most girls. Neko tend to be sensual creatures, and attracted to Humans. In some cases, it is a mild sexual kink - a female character that is more 'sexy' because she is just a little bit of an animal. A collar with a bell on it is a common fashion accessory.

Based on this thread and other, I have come to the conclusion that I am not Neko. Specifically this part "Essentially they are humans, almost invariably female, with cat ears and a cat tail, and feline manerisims.". I am not a human with cat characteristics. I am a cat that can hide their cat characteristics to "pass" as human. More specifically I am a werecat.

The cat ears/tail that I wore/wear most of the time are times when the ears fail to be completely hidden by hair, similarly tail not hidden by clothing.

I did not realize I was not a Neko. I am sad now.

What Ceera forgot to mention is that in Japanese anime, Neko often have a full cat form. You, being a werecat, qualify.

I really had not thought of me Nekoish in that- Nor when I wear leopard skin and ears. I think it really is your outlook, how you feel. Sometimes I go Mer or Daemon or Fae but it is still me- with out any perceivable change in persona. The only time I feel different is when I log in as my alt Hera, who is also human, then I am still just me, just a freer me.

heh, even when I look mermaid I'm a kitty.

it is the "human with cat mannarisms" that I have problems with, not full cat form issue. I'm a cat with some ability to pass as human.

awww!

Did you not see this from Ghosty's "Am I Furry?" thread?

If you turn the "Furry" to "Neko" and take away the "Not" from the first one, it works. Kinda.

Anyway, you're fine too.

When you turn into a human, you can't hide your neko nature. That's straight from Japanese myth... though usually it's foxes or tanuki that pass as humans... the cat-type (Nekos) seem to be more recent. You can tell if an animal is trying to pass as human because they will never be able to hide all their animal nature... they will have ears, or a tail, or slit pupils, or whiskers.

I've been all on that chart. And I want the to find the 70% and 100% kitties. I mean those specific kitties. My neko skin has fur on it, unlike most neko skins out there. My kitty doesn't match my neko skin though :(

Kitty>

Neko skin is same as in mermaid picture posted earlier, so will not overwhelm thread with pictures but refer back to it.

Sigh. Where's that picture of the half black/half white guys from Star Trek?

Lexxi, Lexxi...there's no difference.

Well.. what does this make me?

Lower half is goat or sheep or horse like, winged and with horns? I do not normally go about like this- to me this is a costume- the real me (SL real me) may choose to appear with different make up, skin color in non-human shades, or even a completely inanimate object form.

Neko or not Neko- the Llama is right. We are all merely reflections of the ever changing being we are inside- even on this side of the kb.

But back to the OP- if you like the look wear it- you can add or subtract as you develop your sense of self. You will be amazed at the changes one little attachment, whether tail, ears or even jewelry, can effect on you.

Well, there IS a difference that I have observed with Neko and the other (starts with K?): the damned purists will jump down someone's throat for not knowing the delineations and what is and is not acceptable. For instance the K's (I think that is what the Japanese term begins with transliterated) are miffed, not yiffed, if you call them a Neko...

Furries, on the other hand, AFAIK have no 'purists', so no one is asking you to know the back story and differences. Two Neko or the K purists (the K's in my observation are worse) can be a social depression all on their own when they get catty.

All of the above not intended for the casual Nekos and whatever that other kind is. In fact, if memory serves, they aren't even feline, but not sure. (OK, they are the Kitsune and are foxes, after getting further in the thread. Observation is that the Kitsune really, really don't like being called Neko.)

I think it makes you a winged satyr. Greek mythology is great for mixed up hybrids, mostly because interbreed sex seemed to be a form of entertainment of the Gods. Some of the coupling would have required a miracle.
