So it's coming to pass. If they can get a forum out of that Jive software, it may not be so bad. I'll hold my judgement until I see what they replace this forum with.

It'll be SL Answers from now on. I didn't like the interface since beta. I'm still on two other forums. At least we'll be free from the landbot spam. (=_=)y

Are you sure? I haven't been following it all but are you sure they will be using SL Answers as a replacement for this forum? Or will they be launching a forum-like instance of the Jive software to replace this place? It sounds like it will be a forum of sorts, but tightly controlled: As part of the transition, we're removing some redundant forums and streamlining others, so you can more easily find the information you're looking for. We want the forums to be about conversations with a purpose; to that end, we're paring down to some of the most focused forums, and letting other conversations continue off-site, or even better: inworld. The forums have become jammed with cruft over the years, and we'll be paring down to a smaller number of top-level forums to make it easier to find the conversations you're looking for. _____________________

https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/blog/2010/02/01/upgrading-the-forums What do you think about this? It's cack. The basic forum functionality just doesn't compare between vbulletin and clearspace, try searching for all posts by one person, try getting just the latest posts, clearspace goes beyond forum software but leaves one with the impression that it's a jack of all trades and master of none. |

To celebrate the *upgrading* of the forums, there will be a thread about Search Gaming.
By the time it gets to comment #1000, most people will have learned how to use the blogorum options to stop the thousands of emails that the thing produces. _____________________

Jive seems to be the product of looking-glass arithmetic: ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision.

What are the odds that in some LL meeting, some months back, the order was given: "find a 'forum' software that will make it virtually impossible for them to communicate with each other"........................??? _____________________

it's like when Nixon proposed that 72 year old Senator John Stennis listen to the Watergate tapes. Indeed. Having observed some Nixonian 'dirty tricks' in operation recently, by LL against Residents, I've been wondering how much of a treasured inspiration ol' Dick actually is to the current leadership. _____________________

With the general age of LL's employee population and growing up in the era of the hippie movement in this country............and their hatered of Tricky Dick. I doubt there's one iota of such inspiration in that group. |

A thought very much like that had occured to me - stop them discussing stuff. I wonder, in business history in general: how many companies with a fundamental "us versus the customer" culture have been successful in the long term? Sure, in this particular case the culture may be oriented toward "us FOR the Future Customer and against only the CURRENT Customer." But then again, how many companies have been successful with taking THAT position? _____________________

Do you know the general age of LL's employee population? (I'm not challenging you; I'm just curious.) No.........but take a look at profiles of most any Linden you see a younger person's perspective. Look up the upper management to read about them, their prior experience where trained.........you'll get a pretty good idea that the general age is quite young compared to other corporations. I'd say definitely below the age of 40 years. That era would be raised by the same age group that made up the hippie movement in the 60's and early 70's.............the look at the location. San Francisco was *the* center of the the Hippie Movement............Haight Ashbury. |

I was in the San Francisco area in the eighties and, let me tell you, it wasn't the sixties any more.
