I don't know what country you live in, but where I live (Washington State in the USA) people are specifically being instructed not to donate anything BUT money if they want to help in Haiti.
The reason is very simple. It costs an extremely great deal more in actual financial resources and volunteer time to deal with food and material donations. MOney and time that would be better spent helping people. It's more cost-effective and time-effective to take the money and purchase items that are needed than it is to accept donations of food or any other material goods.
So the call to only donate money, if you cannot donate your time, is a valid point. Yes. Thanks Michigan. The only required assistance at this time unless you are a medical professional or working for agencies such as Medicins Sans Frontieres is money. Phramaceutitcal supplies and certaion equipment requires purchase orders. Aircraft need fuel. Computer systems need purchasing. Etc, etc. Money. Going to the right organizations. Please help.

From: Amaranthim Talon Couple things- First off, hello Eternus- just love your name so figured wd hello.
Jig- I hope LL continues to ignore us and we manage to hang on- as has been said a hundred plus times, RA is a wonderful resource. To comment that LL has been blind to Residents' wishes on prior occasions would be the epitome of an understatement. But I guess I am the eternal optimist...
Meantime we manage to hang on...
As for policing etc.... I prefer the self monitoring myself- If the Residents here overall act mature we have no problems at all and should be able to discuss anything at all and how it impacts our SL. Sadly, you always have Trolls of one stripe or another- whether stealth ones masquerading as alts or the sadly homegrown variety; everyone knows the best response to a Troll is to just ignore it, but so few really do.
And if you want to be free of possible LL interference, you can always choose third-party sites such as SLUniverse and SecondCitizen- of course, moding goes on elsewhere, but at least you are not at risk of having your in-world account threatened. And who knows what it would take to incur that much LL wrath - it could be for being a general a$$ here, but it could be for something like telling folks about options to XStreet - depends on whose bad side you get on... i've been meaning to respond since i first saw thia and i keep getting sidetracked. thank you. i am a vampire but i didn't want a 'creepy' name, but i did want one that carried the idea of immortality. the last name Soulstar being available was definitely a bonus. and thank you for the reminder of other forums. i keep forgetting about them and forgetting to bookmark them.
