And you think that is all? Before you know it you are paying the means of sustaining life for your ex SL-partners as well...

Ah shit! Does this mean I'm gonna be subjected to squeeky Clean Cut Avatars wearing white shirts & ties coming to my shop & home to "spread the word"????

Soon we'll have Hare Krishna avatars selling flowers at the Abbotts Sim!!:)

A couple of months ago I was wondering into a shop when at distance I spotted a woman wearing a burqa.

I've seen all sorts of avatars in SL but I think that was the last thing I expected to see...

I'd like to know what makes LL think that we can't have viable and meaningful relationships with inanimate objects!

You obviously never met my ex....

HA :D

I gotta laugh at this one. :D

The original post cited the something about the Mormons appreciating the option to take more than one parter...

this is funny to me, honestly, because the Mormons are against polygamy. They had a little revelation (aka: word of wisdom) and changed their teachings to exhort monogamy. Now, while that's the official church stance, and one can indeed be excommunicated for it, it does happen. Marry the first wife, temple wedding, divorce her, buy a second house, pick the second wife (and for you guys who think this is heaven, it's the WIFE who picks her 'sister', not you :D ), marry, divorce, buy third house, wash, rinse, repeat. (Utah has the one of the highest divorce rates in the country). There are families who own a couple of blocks together. *chuckles* They just get city permits to wall themselves off and call it a 'gated community'.

However, this is the exception to the rule. Most LDS folks are against polygamy, as it is taught to be contrary to their belief system, and I'm sure they wouldn't much appreciate the pidgeon-holing. :D

Coco- you know there are all kinds of people in SL... I'm sure there's one out there right now who'd happily sign up as "Spike (blah)" wear your collar and follow you around on all fours.

All it would cost would be the chance to hump your leg once in a while :D

So, I recently checked out what this "partnering" is all about, then came to a realization: you can only be partnered to one person. Normally, since most users are part of Western culture they wouldn't even think about this, but the fact is that is LL wants to expand their influence to all cultures, they should not limit partnering to just one user- it is the equivalent of promoting monogamy in SL and prohibiting the expression of alternatives.

SL has a rising Mormon population, and surely mutiple partnerships would be attractive to them. In addition, there are other sub-cultures in the Western world and cultures in other parts of the world that see polygamy is its different forms as the ideal arrangement.

If the allowed number of partners was unlimited, there wouldn't be much point to it. People would just fill it up with all their friends, and it wouldn't mean anything. There are plenty of places to put all your ingame friends. Friends list, your profile's picks, and groups. There is also the problem of using additional resources to increase the number of partners per profile. I can think of alot more important places to use database/hardware resources. I can't rez anything half the time as is.

It is true that American society is biased toward monogamy. Actually, that applies to most of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Austrailia- in fact, there are very few cultures in the world that practice polyamory in which all are "equal partners."

The practice of multiple concurrent marriages has been abandoned by the contemporary Mormon church. Very few Mormons today believe in it or practice it.

There is no impact to partnering in SL, other than the satisfaction of the two partners who let their partnership be known to the world.

A partner listing that could be a partner(s) listing would be perfect. If it could be done easily and practically, it should be. However, nothing is perfect. The partner listing as it is serves a vast majority of people.

It isn't the case that SL residents who practice polyamory are silenced. They may list their partners as they wish in their profiles. Some people who like to acknowledge all of their friends do it through using the picks tab. People often use the groups listing to make their preferences known.

They could just change it so you have the option of putting "Married" instead of a name or "In the So-n-So family" etc.

Actually, that's not half a bad idea... instead of listing a partner, use that slot to show 'status,' and have options like married, partnered, single, not looking, etc.

That could be kind of interesting... or maybe people with big suitcases wandering around looking lost. :D

Dammit... and I thought I was promised a rose garden!

Anyway, having a large listing will only piss someone off anyway, "Hey, you're names above mine... I thought I was your favorite....how come there are 8, I thought we said we'd limit it to 7, someone's daily time is getting cut!! blah blah, blah"....

Just have your partners, but sssshhhhh.... keep it on the down low...

Well- one question regarding partnering then - aside from romantic claims and such - is there any benfit in-world? I mean, does this automatically grant co-ownership of land and/or objects? I belong to a group og four people - non-romantically involved. I bought land and together as a group we have objects and terraform as we see fit. But is there any additional anything that could be accomplished through "partnering" with anyone? Can one hold land and objects in common - as in belonging to all equally?

I hope this is not construed as a thread hi-jack, it just seemed nan appropriate continuation and I apologize in advance if it actually so. I would be happy to post this on its own if it is seen as such. Thank you all.

As far as I know Partnering serves no purpose other than the emotional well being of the persons involved, which isn't a bad thing I guess.

The only benefit that "partnering" provides is you get that person's name in your profile. that's it.

This isnt a thread Hijack - Its thread Necromancy .. look at the dates. LOL.

The only benefit to partnering is that you proudly display the name of your next ex-partner.

Of COURSE partnering is only for 2 peoples! Those Polyamorous people are pre-verts.

ZOMGS they allow same sex Partnerings! Don't they know thats illegal in my state?

They even let Humans partner with Furries. Thats just wrong.

SL partnering should be Just like RL with a marriage licence and everthing. And Divorce lawyers.
