So, I recently checked out what this "partnering" is all about, then came to a realization: you can only be partnered to one person. Normally, since most users are part of Western culture they wouldn't even think about this, but the fact is that is LL wants to expand their influence to all cultures, they should not limit partnering to just one user- it is the equivalent of promoting monogamy in SL and prohibiting the expression of alternatives.
SL has a rising Mormon population, and surely mutiple partnerships would be attractive to them. In addition, there are other sub-cultures in the Western world and cultures in other parts of the world that see polygamy is its different forms as the ideal arrangement.

we've discussed this before...just create a group for your lovers
i assume that linden lab haven't introduced multiple partner boxes, not because they're biased towards monogamy, but simply because they haven't thought about it too much, they're busy folk.x

I need a memory upgrade. My computer doesn't have enough RAM to hold the names of all my partners. Damn memory manufacturers are biased I tell ya!

They also heavily favour those with only one personality - only one name is allowed!
Not only that, they leave out very significant body parts too...

Here's the email I recieved after casting a few votes towards the multiple partnership feature. From: someone Hello, Feature Proposal 2402: "Polyamory Partnership Revisited" has been marked 'Can't do' by Linden Lab. This has resulted in the return of any votes you had placed on proposal 2402 to your account. Here are the Linden notes: Love is certainly an essential part of many Second Lives. We recognize there are a number of difficulties with the way the current Partnering system works, and this isn't the only one. One usability issue happens to be the fact there's no obvious way to Partner from inworld (!). What also doesn't 'feel right' about Partnering is while it's a visible status, it doesn't convey any particular benefits. Already, questions have come in about multi-Resident relationships where it's wished that one person doesn't have full land editing rights; the particulars of that, of course, are covered by the Groups system. Thus, in view of expanding and adapting social networks, including polyamorous relationships, it makes sense that we continue to improve the Groups system, because Groups is a versatile tool which can be shaped for many kinds of social structures: from companies, to friends, to lovers. After the major overhaul of Groups last year, we anticipate this year will see more changes. It's also sensible if you have specific ideas for how Groups could be more amenable for romantic Partnerships and the like, please suggest these as new voting proposals. To be absolutely clear, *none* of this is intended to disrespect or dismiss alternative lifestyles in their myriad combinations, but rather, to emphasize, in tandem, that choices are fundamental to the Second Life rubric, and that we should continue to work on providing opportunities for this self-expression to be possible — even when they may not appear the most obvious due to 'the way things have worked for a long time'. See http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=2402Happy voting! http://secondlife.com/vote/

My harem is furious about this one partner per avatar rule! This is the biggest problem facing Second Life today!

Simply list your "life partnerS" in your Picks list like so many other people do. "First Wife" "first Husband" "Sister-wife" "Red-headed-step-mistress" yadda yadda. -- Humans may be fun to play with, but they make terrible housepets.

From: Brenda Connolly Oh, Christ on a Pony! It can't be that slow a day , can it? The grid hasn't been shut down for an emergency and the Lindens haven't made a major/bad policy decision today, so there isn't a reason to start complaining yet. Yeah, it's a slow day. OT: I'm not against multi-partnerships at all. I am against Linden Labs breaking unrelated things to fix the partnership problem. Besides, groups are better for that anyways, because it allows one person or a couple to choose the rights the rest of the family would have. Partnership means jack for that, because it doesn't grant you anything!

I have no idea what that Linden e-mail was trying to say.
Since my partner is not in Second Life, I'm thinking of listing my D&D bulldog Spike as my partner. He's faithful, loyal, protective, and deeply interested in every aspect of my work.

I have yet to figure out how the partner slot works so everyone is ahead of me on this one but since second life is an American Based game made by people living in a traditional american societ with American laws its going to only have a slot for one partner hehe its only human nature to do this kind of stuff. Also I'm not even sure why anyone worries about this stuff really its irrelevant nor is it any evil plot or anything its just how people living in a society which sees the normal as having one partner think and since the game was made by people like that its going to look like that. I have yet to see them say it HAS to be like that, but they created a profile with one slot for one partner due to the fact that the game was designed by human beings
/shrug
I also have no idea why i am responding to this post as its a silly thread but made for a good little giggle
(still want to know how one actualy gets a partner into that little slot ..)
also here is a translation of that email "to hard to code and very hard to do so we aren't going to implement it because there are other ways to get around the partner thing"

Rats! I just looked up to discover how to make Spike my partner. There is a fee involved, and I wouldn't mind that, but your partner HAS TO BE ANOTHER AVATAR!!!! This is an outrage! Speaking as someone who once fell in love with the robot Crow on Mystery Science Fiction Theater 3000, I'd like to know what makes LL think that we can't have viable and meaningful relationships with inanimate objects! I'm totally bummed now. I was so looking forward to putting Spike in that slot. I guess I'll have to write it in on my profile somewhere. coco P.S. Hey, I think I'll put him in my picks as well!
P.S. No, no no, I got a better idea.

First of all, I agree with others that making a group for your multiple partners is a far better way to go than just the partnership "slot" in the profile, since that slot doesnt actually do anything. They could just change it so you have the option of putting "Married" instead of a name or "In the So-n-So family" etc. IF LL was to change it so you could partner multiple people...how on earth would that show on the profile? Its rather just tossed in a small spot now as it is, imagine a long list instead? Oh wait...it would probably be a lot like the Picks. So basically we just need another tab for additional picks, which alooooooot of people would be thrilled with. There we go, problem solved! Get to it LL!

I don't use my partner field - It can be YOURS (subject to approval by LL) for a measly 100,000L! Or how about this - rent my partner field for 10,000L/month! A bargain!

Does this mean I'm gonna be subjected to squeeky Clean Cut Avatars wearing white shirts & ties coming to my shop & home to "spread the word"???? Soon we'll have Hare Krishna avatars selling flowers at the Abbotts Sim!!
