Look- life is a risk- You want boredom - choose safety - if you don't take a chance you will always wonder.

There speaks the voice of reason.

The one and only danger I can see is that new people may have a hard time understanding that it is not just a game. My very first day in world I met an older avatar that showed me all of the ropes. We had a fantastic time together, shopping, exploring and loooong discussions about everything a person could imagine. Two weeks later I was asked to partner and to ME it sounded like fun and just something else to discover. Unfortunately it was of course a much more serious matter to my friend and now partner. I still regret the needless pain that was inflicted on a very nice person.

I had the same thing happen to me. My first few days in world, I thought "Oh. What a great game!" Now? It's no longer a game. I have hurt and been hurt here. It's another extension of myself and of course how I wish i looked in RL :D

Thank goodness!

Having just shown him the photographic evidence that I do look better than he does in that lingerie, he conceded the point.

Argent, you could try one of each. Sort of like a sock buffet.

Whenever socks/stockings come up in conversation, one picture always comes to mind:

May not be safe for work

Reasonable Insanity?

Two weeks later I was asked to partner ... I still regret the needless pain that was inflicted on a very nice person.

From your synopsis, it wasn't your fault at all because he should have known better and you shouldn't abuse your energies with regret over the matter. I know my earlier remark about newbs being easier lays was a little sour (and since I don't know you from Eve, I'm not suggesting for a moment that you might have been) but it works both ways: residents of longstanding tread a very fine line between showing newbs the ropes and inveigling them into their own vision of what SL should be about, which is an absolute nonsense, of course, that even the greenest newb tends to understand.

I decline the inevitable but nevertheless innocent requests for friendship from newbs with a short explanation that the old-fashioned method of getting to know someone follows in SL also. (As a matter of course, I don't maintain a friendship list, because I remember folk even from my earliest days as a newb.)

The same would go for relationships, in my opinion, but tieing your av to another just seems so counterproductive to me: hard work like that belongs in RL.
