I am going out on a limb here, and I dont know what else to do... I need to raise as much money as possible or I am going to lose my house and if I lose my house, my ex will use that to take my son away and my ex doesnt see my son because he hurts him. Before you all attack me, let me quickly explain my situation. I am a military vet. Did my time honorably. Got sick during the first gulf war. The VA says I am 80% disabled from it. The doc's say it is incurable. And I have never let it stop me. I have worked full time ever since my tour of duty ended. Until a few months ago. I was having to go to the doctor too much and my boss finally said he wanted me to work for free. It was a 140 mile a day round trip drive. Couldnt afford to work for free. Just at that time, he ran out of money to pay me so I simply left. We got rid of every thing except the necessities. We kept the internet because my sons school does much of their work online so we have it right now for him. other then that, nothing. My husbands job is on the line as we live in the state that the Big three affect.... Work here is scarce. we are right now two months behind on the mortgage and they are going to foreclose unless we pay it in full. power company is two months behind and they will shut off power in two weeks unless paid in full..... and on and on and on. To make matters worse, my grandmother died on Monday in NY and they are burying her on thursday. I have no money to send her flowers and no money to even go to her funeral. Right now, I dont know what more could go wrong. I have two children who believe in Santa and Santa wont becoming this year. One year ago my family and I were in the best place. We felt so fortunate that we actually adopted a family of seven and got them a months worth of food, clothes, bills paid and more presents then you can imagine. Complete with a Santa delivery on christmas eve. I am not a begger and I am not a scam artist. I am a normal person who has been delt a bad hand. I have tried everything. Emptied 401K, savings, and borrowed from family already.
I need help. Can someone please tell me how I can ask other SL's for a donation? If I can get enougth SL's to donate even just .25 eventually I think it will be enought to keep my house, keep the utilities on and buy some food (never knew how much i hated spaghetti' o's until you have to eat them every day). I know this sounds bad, and again, I am not a scammer or whatever. I just need help and I am desparate. Can someone just help me please......... thanks and......thanks.

moon beam, omigosh, I feel absolutely bad for you, and I can sympathize with your plight as there are days when I feel I'm teetering on that edge myself. Have you tried government assistance? veteran disability? Food stamps? Goodwill and the Salvation army? Local churches? I will not be able to go in world until after 5 pm cst...but when I do I'll look you up and send you what I can in SL. Good Luck and blessings to you.

You can earn money faster working at McDonalds than you can asking for donations. That's not a slam; it's the truth. The only way to make money in SL is to create something people are willing to buy, and most people don't earn more than minimum wage at that. Despite what you've been told, SL is not easy money. Here's a relavant page with more info: /118/7b/121897/1.html#post1153995

Spaghetti' O's are expensive.
The kids want them and I usually say no.....too much $ for too little food.
And seriously, sell the computer, it is not required for school.

Moonbeam Bandit, with all due respect. On December 1 you looked like an happy person. You asked how to open a store in SL and you claimed to have a website with 3300 (3 3 0 0!) products and movies in real life. How come? /327/3c/151884/1.html

Sue's on the right track. Saving money is like receiving tax-free income, and most people (in the US, anyway) spend way more than they need to. Google "simple living". Buy the book "Your Money or Your Life". Join the forums here... http://www.simpleliving.net/main/...and read the postings every day. More productive than playing SL, or reading the SL forums.

no one is buying anything from the store. i opened it hoping to earn some money from sales as it is touted as being a huge market. I think right now is a horrible time to sell sex toys.
as for everyone else, you might think my "story" is just a story, but let me tell you this, i wish it was. and yes, the ex is just like i said. th emost ironic part of all this is the simple fact that we dont qualify for any help from anyone because my husband has a job.
Spaghetti o's are .50 a can and i can feed two kids on one can.... my sons entire math class is online if you can believe that. they dont give text book, they give website instead.
believe what you all want, the fact is, my situation is all to true for me. so if anyone can figure out how to come up with 20,000 within two weeks time, please let me know.

Moonbeam, Both my husband and myself are Desert Storm vets. Me an E5 from the 13th COSCOM, and he an E6 from what was left of 2nd Armor. I'll ask where you were stationed in the Gulf, because I know where the chem attacks occurred that would cause an 80% & incureable. It's not that i doubt you. I was a REMF. I acknowledge it. You said you were in the first gulf war, and mentioned an ex-husband. That means that you were a REMF too, since we women are not allowed in combat units. There were only 2 chem attacks that ever made it through to rear echelon personnel like us. So please validate your story.
In the interim, I suggest that you:
First go the Army Emergency Relief. We both donated to it. I remember my First Sergeant hinting very strongly how unpleasant life could be for those who failed to donate. AER is set up for cases like yours.
Next, try the Red Cross. They hit us up every year for donations too, just for cases like yours.

moonbeam- Anyone that's figured out how to squeeze $20k out of SecondLife isn't likely to share it .. or how they got it. I can understand that desperate times call for desperate measures, but (I feel like a jerk saying this but...) I think the intent of Resident Answers is to provide a place for people asking for help IN SecondLife... not for asking for help with "First Life" It's unfortunate that your plight sounds so much like a scam... but your cry for help here has, at least, gotten you some decent suggestions... focus your time and effort on those real life solutions. (You could probably sell newspapers on a busy street and still make more than a million SecondLifers do here.) Good luck.. and may the season of miracles come through for you.

You guys can make fun of me all you want. I dont care. My story is true. My facts are true, and yes, there were women on the front lines - especially those who were doing what I did in the Marines. In fact, we were in country 3 days before the commandant gave permission for the women to go... we were advance party in and last party out. And being 80% disabled really isnt fun. Most people dont have the amount of surgeries and take the amount of meds I take in their entire life that I have taken in the past 15 years. Trust me, I will win the battle between me and my disability.
as for working again, I would love to. I was making over 45k when my boss ran out of money. parttime doesnt work because it has to work around my youngest's school schedule or he goes into daycare and the cheapest one anywhere around here is 120 a week......
You know, if you guys think its easy to have written my post, your wrong. Its humiliating and embarrassing but, I am doing what I can to keep my kids housed and fed and right now, warm.....
Go ahead, make fun of me. YOu cant make me feel any worse then I already do.... And yes, everything I wrote is the absolute truth.

You say that you are a ex-marine, so i went and did you a favor, I googled for Marine Corps veteran relief agencies.
Contact this agency:
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
that agency's website also recommends: ARC Armed Forces Emergency Service Center
The Red Cross is still right up there as another good choice.
I won't post phone #'s etc, but you can easily find them using a google... like i just did.

Season Of Shareing
12-06-2006 16:20
I'm not sure where you are but if in California try calling The Season Of Shareing they help alot of people. Or they might have one where you are .... Also check to see if they have a Families First Program in your area, ask the school where your kids go to or dial 411. They help with problems like your haveing and will keep the power on. If you have a 48 hour notice so will The Salvation Army. Good Luck

Moonbeam, this might sound like terrible advice, but you might consider selling the house before it is too late. Find an ethical business person locally to help you out with a creative real estate deal-- maybe you can rent the house back at a lower rate. There are many possible solutions, but if you just sit on this, you will end up with nothing (foreclosure, bad credit, etc etc). Unfortunately, unless you get your local community in real life involved, it is highly unlikely that much money will be donated. That's just a fact of reality. Best wishes to you.

First of all, unless you are living in a box, which means you have no family and refuse assistance, house loss cannot be used against you in a custody case. Especially if the father is abusive.
Second of all, the military sponsors around 50 different programs for women in your situation.
Third, get a menial job and let the house foreclose, get a 2 bedroom apartment and have the kids split a room.
Fourth, every town and county has programs for Secret Santas for families in your situation. Check with the Red Cross (some local chapters do it), Goodwill, and the Salvation Army.
Fifth, if your child is in school, then you are lying about a math class being totally online. There is currently no schools in America where any k-12 schools are exclusively online. This has been tried and failed under the No Child Left Behind Act declaring it unlawful for a computer to be used at home for the sole purpose of education.
Sixth, if you are unemployed or low wage, you qualify for WIC and food stamps which keeps food on the table, and once the bank takes your house, you can apply for public housing, at which time you can utilize the single mother's programs to get educated to a job you are able to do.
Seventh, you'd be lying if you had no money. If you were disabled as a result of military action, you'd be recieving benefits for the rest of your life, including but not limited to full monthly pay at your discharging rank, full medical care for you and descendants in your household. Funny you mention the details on everything else, but haven't mentioned the disability. If in the case a doctor diagnosed you at that large of disability away from military, you'd be getting a check from the government to live along with programs that pay for your housing, daycare, etc.
You'd also as a vet with disability have preference on government jobs at bases, forts, posts, whatever branch you wanted.
I've been in your situation. Almost to the letter, but I became educated, not beggar. Either way, spill your story all you want. Any military vets and/or spouses can see the holes in your story.

BTW, Spaghetti O's are expensive when compared to 25 bowls of cereal for 3 bucks, or 8 packs of Ramen for a dollar...
