I didn't see Tirtanic as it looked lousy. I have a feeling I wouldn't like Avatar, either.

I have seen both. Pity they used Di Cr*ppio and made it a bit over the top with the romantic drama. Otherwise, there were many good things about Titanic.
When I saw the Avatar trailer, I thought I wouldn't see it but somehow I did end up seeing it. I found it surprisingly good. It had a unique world, a vibrancy, sure the message was a bit blunt and in your face but I think there aren't enough films that tackle the topic. There was one scene I think they could have done without but over all, I do think it was a good movie and certainly deserves to cap off Titanic.

Hats off to them.

Avatar was worth the ticket price, in my view. The plot was not mind bending, but then I'm a life-long science fiction fan, so I've seen a sci-fi plot or too. It held my attention for the whole three hours.

The 3D worked fine for me, and the special effects were great.

Some special effects these days suffer in some respects from being so realistic that you don't notice them. You don't appreciate them because they look real.

Avatar contains in two and half hours everything I have ever tried to paint in my entire lifetime. Made me feel as obsolete as 45 RPM - B side.

I also scarcely breathed during the entire two and half hours.

My only complaint was that they did not dedicate it (or at least give a nod) to Roger Dean who was clearly the visual inspiration for most of the scenes.

I think that's what I really hate about Avatar. There's barely a pretense of a plot. Or characters. The movie is nothing but a vehicle for the effects. Everything else takes a back seat to them.

Aside from the special effects, it's nothing special, and when every film can have gozo effects, are they really that special?

I thought Avatar was unbelievably bad.

LoL! Love the analogy on Avatar!

Never bothered seeing Titanic, myself. Avatar was a stunning visual epic, and I hardly noticed the time passing. But the plot was reed-thin and predictable.

Titanic was an excellent movie, in my opinion. Overly mushy in a couple of spots; but there were no plot holes, no wall-bangers, and it's one of the very, very few movies I can think of right off the top of my head where the CGI is non-intrusive.

I was surprised he received no credit, too.

It's not like James Cameron hasn't done that before.

I didn't Like Titanic for the same reason I didn't like Pearl Harbor. They were mivies centered around a historical event, yet that event is subjugated for a silly romantic story.

I haven't seen Avatar nor plan to. Im sure it is a tecnological marvel, but it seems devoid of any real storyline. Shiny eye candy is not enough for me. It looks a lot like watching the channel we have where you can watch video games being played.

Me either.

From an article I read a few days ago on MSNBC, people are leaving the theater after watching Avatar and coming down with "Depression". The Psychologists were saying these people are so taken with the 3D immersion of the film that they fall into a funk because their lives arent as colorful and exciting.

I think it was more a case of the sunlight and radiation they were exposed to as they went from their basements to the theatre. Maybe they should attach a warning to the movie promaos. "Warning. If you don't normally leave your house on a daily basis, traveling to see this film should only be done at night."

Anyone want to discuss the parallel it drew or how it had the guts to kill my favourite character (the helicopter pilot)?

Apparently Avatar rates at number 26 (so far), as far as number of ticket sales go.
