This is probably another Issue entirely SL is getting pretty large and it has to be quite the Chore keeping all the Servers communicating with one another properly. Everything that has gone down is, in one way or another related to Search, so that would tell me it's a communications issue.

Back on topic, how long is this going to take to get search functions fixed? One more day and then they are off for there weekend, then what?

They have one more step before it's fixed.

A rolling restart tomorrow (Friday) afternoon that is supposed to fix it, before they disappear for the weekend, but inreality it doesn't.

Sorry two steps. the second being a blog post saying that they know there is and issue but it probably won't get fixed until Monday.

Then it'll be Tuesday before it is actually fixed so that on Wednesday they can break it again.

Hmmmm... did I leave anything out.

I feel your pain.. Up until October of last year, I had a nice chunk of land (1/8 of a sim), was building a business, was paying LL a fair chunk of $$ every month, then as things began to go down the drain, I decided I was fed up with paying significant $$$ every month for something that was obviously broken.. However, I still have a lot of friends in SL and don't care to just uninstall the client and leave.. Though, I can understand why someone would.. Oh how I long for the halcyon days of late 2005, back when LL actually stayed on top of the -much fewer- problems the grid had back then.... sigh. Significant landowning/paying residents leaving/dropping to basic is what is its gonna take to shock LL into waking up... Everybody who is fed up with the non-responsive LL and all the unfixed problems, sell your land, and quit paying premium and tier.. Take a vacation from SL, or just go basic like I did.. Eventually they WILL wake up...

Uh huh! Have you tried flying from one island to another. Not everyone lives, plays or hangs out on the mainland.

But, I've saved a good deal of Lindens and have completed a couple of RL projects by not logging in, so all is not lost.

I think SL's rentention rate is so low as it is.... I dont think winding down etc is going to make much difference to LL.

The ONLY was the SL is going to change is to look at how it is structured.....

I mean hip and cool is good for a club house but not so good for a struggling business.

LL should get some propper harsh managment in there, there should be a sound customer service department and lots of investment into existing systems.

As a service provider you are gonna get crap if your service isnt upto spec.... , now there might be 100 reasons why SL is having troubles BUT shutting all the doors and windows while closing your eyes, putting your fingers in your ears and singing "la la la" ISNT going to retain your customer base..... fix the problems...and intice new business.

Creating 30 new sims a month ISNT going to make SL a nicer place to be, where land might be expensive but its also not being purchased... so theres land on offer i.e 512 parcel at 16k (yes ive seen quite a few).
LL need to stand up streight and dust the crumbs off a hip, cool young company and say ... "we no longer WANT to develope SL .... " " we ARE going develope SL". In order to succeed you sometimes need to grow past your arrogance... becasue that is what this is ... arrogance.... the thought that " we can get more customers so fuck the existing ones if they aint happy they know where the door is ... ala the TOS". Im not going to say im going to leave ... or cash in ... BUT there ARE problems.... with the grid.....over gaming due to exessive camping....MASSIVE memory holes in the client... lack of CS... you CANT just pretend that like our money ...our assets and YOUR service that these things arnt important or do not exist.

If I bought a service from a company and then didnt recieve that service... thats fraud and deception ... well im sorry Philip... you are NOT delivering the service that you advertise ... your TOS is "like it or fuck off", your team are hiding under there desks afraid to deal with the discontent masses, we are told that we own our stuff till you loose it ...

These are all things that are KILLING the SL expereience and in deed KILLING SL ...

Never mind Age Verification...Age Players ... Furries.... Copywrite theft etc .... just good customer service and a service thats good for the customer.

Frankly, it seems to me as if they are TRYING to get rid of "long-term" users and they couldn't have picked a better way of doing it. My theory is this (dawns the tinfoil hat): Those of us who made our accounts before a certain time are getting our stipends and boy are they a lot bigger than they are now! Also, there are the lifetimers who invested money in the beginning and are assured their 4096m2 of land free of charge. We older premiums are still paying the monthly fee, but LL isn't seeing the kind of profit that they see with the newer ones. The lifetimers aren't paying tier for their land, so... LL isn't getting that money either.

What better way to save money than to get rid of us by screwing up the world and the customer service, hmm? *takes off tinfoil hat*

If they want long term commitment from players, they need to show that they are committed to the platform/world and it's users. Right now, they don't show it, so people aren't sticking around.

I didn't have any trouble with the map or teleporting either for most of the time I was on last night, then I suddenly couldn't get home...or anywhere else for that matter. It was late enough that I just decided to log off, but it's probably better to not to assume that, just because something isn't happening to you, it isn't happening to anyone else either. We all know how unpredictable SL can be.

Which would indicate a local problem with the sim, or possibly the colocation the sim is in and says nothing about the entire grid.

Unless the problem is showing in multiple sims, across the different colocations, and for different people on different continents, you can't assume it's actually the whole grid that's acting up.

The blog has rules and guidelines regarding comments. Comments awaiting moderation means simply that. After moderation a person typically is able to post all the comments they want without additional moderation.

"Freedom of speech" gets constantly bandied about without people realizing that as SL (and the blob) exist within Linden Lab, and that Linden Lab is a business, an individual's claim to "free speech" goes out the window once they agree to the Terms of Service and the Community Standards.

I doubt the Lindens would have mentioned tp failures in their blog if it was a localized issue.
