I feel ripped off

I just signed on for a year, and looked and looked for first land, none to be found. So I give in and cough up an additional $8000L for a 512 plot. Two days later I see an announcement that more first land will be available soon.

I feel scammed and ripped off.

Is there any remedy for me and other users like me?

I feel the same about that topic. Perhaps a phone call to a California State official about deceptive advertising practices might be in order.

How does your lack of patience constitute you being ripped off or scammed? I can understand your frustration but you decided you need the land now and that it was worth you paying 8000L$ to have it now. Unfortunetly once you buy land you are no longer eligable to First Land, I really thing that every premium account should be eligable for a one time purchase from LL of a 512m plot at First Land prices regardless of having bought land from a resident.

Its not deceptive advertising, the terms of buying First Land are clear and they make no guantee that of availablity, just your right o purchase it under certain conditions.

SL has acted in the past to moderate the linden currency and land prices; you just happened to buy at the market high due to a lack of patience and lack of research on your part. There's no lack of forum postings with the word "land" in their subject lines...

Now, where you would have a case, and a lot of people would have a case, would be if you bought land, and were unable to use it because some jerk sets out camping chairs and dancing pads to the point where the server becomes unstable and the avatar limit for the sim becomes maxed out.

Yeah I don't really understand how you can call it a scam. First land is like a treat I never understood it as a guarentee but more of a bonus thingie you qualify for if you happen to come across it once your premium. I can see why your upset, spening 8k on something and if you would have waited it would have only been 512L but thats the price of being in a hurry , sorta .. I think. I think people think once your in Second Life you have to hurry up and have a home and I can understand that but people in such a hurry for a home should probably find a place to rent until first land is available. That, or just cruise around homeless for a while and just spend your time exploring :)

I just paid L$14k for a512m2 plot...times 5...equals 5260m2 for L$70k...my neighbours are brilliant and the area is awesome...yeah could have waited for a "First Land"..but who can guarantee that after you buy,the next few plots won't be taken up by a casino or mall..
if You just paid L$8k for a 512 plot, and have a great view and awesome neighbours, well done...hold on to it,it matbe an investment.

What? Because I didn't offer to lookup the California BBB phone number for you? Or I didn't jump onboard your "ZOMG Scam!" bandwagon?

As pointed out elsewhere in this thead, the First Land offer only entitles you to buy land at a set price, as land becomes available. The Lindens aren't scamming anybody. Shame on you for perpetuating FUD.

I didn't manage to find any first land either, but then I accepted that I might not be able to do so before I clicked the subscribe button.

So I bought land at "Retail" pricing, yes I paid a lot more for it, but I also got to choose exactly where I bought.

I now have about 12K sqm of land, and have my eye on another 2k sqm of land nearby.

In the end it was my decision to opt out of first land, just as it is your decision.

I have a number of friends who don't own land and they find they don't need it, so it's not like you need land to particpate.

Would I still like to buy a 512 for $512, sure I would, but it's not a make or break matter.

I got first land because I understood how land worked before upgrading and buying any - and I searched and got lucky to get some at some odd time of night. Failure to read or ask before jumping in is not LL's fault.

Actually the land barons are dumping their 512 plots for around $5000 right now. Time to stock up.

Grrrr...the last thing we need is for some government clones to stick their noses here. This is one of the few places government is not trying to "protect" us by screwing everything up. Lets keep it that way.

Not until it goes back down to 3k - 3.5k for a 512 plot.

Well, no one forced the op to spend 8000L$ on that piece of land... Add to that, as said earlier, there is never a garantuee to get first land...

So there is no ripp off... no scam... just an impatient resident. Nothing more or less as that.

I paid an giantic amount of L$ on the 16K land I own now. Why? Because I wanted to have it... and I knew overpaid greatly on some spots, but I got what I wanted.

The op wanted the land and bought it. Blaming someone else for his decision is a bit off in my opinion.

Yeah.. but wait Usagi. The days of sub 3,000 prices on those 512 plots may be coming sooner than you think..

Does anyone know if the bug with selling off your land qualifies you for First Land still applies?
Yes, plots are coming down and yes, I live in a 'mature' sim but there's still one optimist with a 512 plot listed at 16k!

Someone taking premium for just one month is qualified for First Land.
The year issue is merely one of reduced subs.
If op had waited .. there was First Land?
Not mean .. factual.

That is true.......then again its the those same people that collection money off money trees for 30 days a premium account turn a sell it. The happenes ever 30 days in cycles. Then again I always believe they should do away with firstland period..........they dump more accounts like eating chips!

There is noway knowing if this person is a alt or a real newbie.
