A while back I suggested that newer avs' Picks aren't counted, but I'm now convinced that I was mistaken. I now believe that an av must have "Payment info used" for its Picks to count as a links to places. I checked quite a few such links and they all had that. None even had "Payment info on file", but that doesn't rule it out.

It means that Picks from unpaid-for alts are no good. It also means that places that offer money for Picks are highly unlikely to offer it to everyone. If they do, it'll be a waste of money. The system can check on those details for an av, so it's likely that some people will be accepted, and some won't.

Interesting idea, but I can confirm that some "No payment info on file" avatars *do* :D show up in search (how? I have an alt, for testing permissions and things, with *no* payment info, and they show up just fine).

It could be the age (mine is quite old), or it could be any number of other things.

One thing I do know for certain. The search is still new and has *definitly* not indexed everything yet, so it could simply be that it has not got around to those missing avatars yet. I wonder if it has picked up all the parcels yet. :(

Also there are the missing parcels and avatars (that was mentioned on the blog not long ago http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/08/search-changes-tomorrow/ ), even if they are now all in there as of today, it will still take some time for them to get indexed.

Handy hint: If you want to know if you avatar is actually there or not, you need to know the key and then go to http://world.secondlife.com/resident/[key] replacing [key] with the avatar key.
Mine is (as an example) http://world.secondlife.com/resident/74821483-6ae9-4b5d-b669-0dcad97de4fa

But you only have to keep it there for 24 hours. I can see people making a career of this.

10 picks x 200 per day = 2000 per day

Just run around and sign up with ten new stores every day. At the end of the month, start again with the first ten.

I am amazed they are paying after the first 24 hours (If I read that right) thats just silly on their part.

That's interesting Abyssin. Thank you for the info. I'll check more and more, looking for them.

On reflection, you said that they show up in search. I wasn't meaning that. I meant that I haven't seen their Picks used as links to a place. It could be different, but I'll do more checking anyway.

Update:

Now I've seen a "No payment info on file" used, so it's back to my original theory - that the age of the avatar may be the deciding factor.

I agree with this Phil. It's what I am noticing too.

I wasn't going to post again until someone else had posted, Bradley, or I would be hogging this thread :)

Since the last post, I've found avs showing that are newer than some that don't show. So it looks like there's more to it than age - that's if age has anything to do with it all. Right now, it's confusing.

That's the Second Life search site, Usagi - not just another website.

My significant other's avi doesnt show in the search engine and they signed up a couple of days after me...

The new search is odd! lol.

Regarding the picks, i was teleported by a friend to the err interesting 'platinum cafe' not only was that place bot central but they offered 25L for anyone who had the area in the picks and touched a certain box... Well at least that was what was getting announced, didn't stick around to see, way too laggy/scary for my liking over there.

It's a shame to see the search engine being gamed so much, I noticed on the parcel I work on we lost a placement because a 'competitor' (someone selling freebies grrr!!) used the same keywords repeatedly on a ton of prims over their land. Gutting that we lost our placement because of that!

So...game with 'em? Leave it and struggle? It's a tough choice...

I don't find that a tough chaoice at all. I'm a realist, so I deal with what's before me.

This opens possibilities. Most ppl put their friends/partners or Dom/subs in their picks, along with a few favourite places.

I have used Linden empty land for personal picks, since I will not be traced by stalkers. Then I edit it, put in my own text and picture. The LM remains the same. Those who TP there, end up in empty water.

So...it's only the LM that matters, meaning that it's to pick shops that pay, put them as picks and edit it as much as I want. And collect 200 L every month for to say what I want. Those who control the picks must do it automatically, not by persons who read what's written there?

And if I don't need 200 L a month, but I have a friend with a gallery. I can TP to his gallery and choose 10 picks there. Then edit them and use it for personal comments. BUT it will still be counted as 10 picks in search?

The last sounds really nice to me, but I see it can be overused.
