I just got my first offer to take part in Picks Camping. A clothing group I am in is now offering L$200 / month for putting their store in your picks. They have an automated system in the store that you can click on to recieve your L$'s after having them in your picks for 24 hours. Seems to me that this could get really expensive quickly, but I have never paid campers so I have no idea how it would compare. It games the search system, but at least shouldn't take up system resources like camping I suppose.
With the new search I assumed something like this would be coming along, but this is the first I have seen it. Am I behind the times?
(I wouldn't use this for my store as I am cheap and don't generate the kind of revenue to pay for this sort of thing, but it seems like an interesting thing to do for a store I am already a group member of. Thoughts?)

I'm curious if they have some inside scoop as to how relevent having links in picks is in search. L$200/month seems very expensive. I wonder how many are they offering it to?
So many questions and so few answers.

I would much rather put stores of people I respect and want to support in my picks. Getting paid to do it just seems icky.

Hmmm... *shrugs* Bound to happen. They gotta game the system and hey, this doesn't leave people unable to use their lands.
Leave ad in for 24 hours and then get L$.. then delete ad. Can this be botted, I wonder?

Seems like so many would jump at the chance on this one. I can't see how it could be lucrative for the respective establishment to have it there, seeing how alt abuse could get a bit ugly.
Either way, no thanks for me.

From: Bradley Bracken I'm curious if they have some inside scoop as to how relevent having links in picks is in search. Other than the 0-12 incoming links you get from traffic, picks are all there is to boost your placing. Time to sign up a few hundred alts and cash in . (People have been doing it ever since the new search was announced though, so it's not really new)

I thought so too! I went to the store after getting the group notice just to see how it worked and it looks like it is open enrollment. No requirement even to be in the group and no indication of a limit of avis who can enroll. How many avis can TP into a sim to sign up today and again tomorrow to get paid?! I guess I assumed since there was an automated signboard to do this that other places might already be doing it now too.

From: Raymond Figtree they probably pay once the month is up. if not, they are in not the brightest bulbs in the sign. Yes, it says you can only be paid once per month.

(People have been done it pretty much ever since the new search was announced though, so it's not really new) Newer avs don't show up when you view who has links to your store, probably for this reason. I don't know what kind of time restriction there is on it.

I have seen the system for sale on SLX ... it has anti bot features, and if you delete it from your profile, you will not be able to get the money next month (even if you add it back before you go back)

Game the system all you want. It'll get me to your store. But it won't make me buy anything.

Guess I'm a lazy sot. Other than putting my own store in my picks, I put places that I frequent in there, too, so I won't have to go digging through inventory for landmarks.

It's not that hard to believe, given the new search takes into consideration Picks links too. It was kind of inevitable to have people willing to 'buy' space on the picks. No worse than the people that offered money in return for ratings votes.
