I have a sincere question about linking in profiles. I have the TP spots at some of my favorite stores for my picks, but have changed the info within them (title, description and pictures). Will it still help them in the ads or does it have to have the title in such for that to help? Curious because I would like to help those I honestly buy from and enjoy, while still having my picks to use for quotes, people etc. Thanks in advance if anyone knows for sure

Highly unethical but at least that person gets effort for creativity, don't worry though the person will have to halt all signups or set some other limits soon because it will be gamed to death and 200 L$ per person per month is going to get pretty pricey.

Oh and 200L a month to suck up one of my 10 spaces? Not enough, goodness. Hopefully this doesnt catch on ![]() Agreed, but think of all the noobs that think that 10 spaces at L200 each is an absolute fortune. However, as I said, currently I'm noticing newer avs do not show up as part of the linking system. I hope some of these stores doing this don't realize it. I'd be happy knowing they're throwing their money down the toilet. _____________________

Hmmm... *shrugs* Bound to happen. They gotta game the system and hey, this doesn't leave people unable to use their lands. Leave ad in for 24 hours and then get L$.. then delete ad. Can this be botted, I wonder? Well If the Bots can get the information abiut the location of the board or sign ( I don`t know i never seen one ) but if the target the oject in questen yes they can be. Abused? Well as for gaming it as you say, no I don`t think its possble. taking the picks on and off and thinking you can go back I highly doubt sence the creator MOST have a fail safe in it to provent this from occuring. |

They are creative because they bought a product? ![]() The thing to remember is LL can change the rules very easily. There already did it once by lowering (or removing) the relevance of events at a place to the search ranking. But this search will always be "gamed" in one way or the other. Simply calling your land Joe's Widgets is a way to game the search results for the word widgets. |

Can we stop with the sanctimonious crap? It's advertising, for one. And it also works the search system. As has been said, it may get people to the store, but it doesn't force them to buy. If sales don't back up the advertising, the store typically goes away. The problem will take care of itself.
It's a lag free way of advertising, and I don't mind it one bit. If a store is crap, all the advertising and gaming in the world will not keep it open. What the hell is there to worry about? Nothing. _____________________

Sorry I didn't mean them I mean the creator, and of course ll can change the rules and all the rules can be changed but it's an interesting way to game the search system, far more creative than keyword stuffing which has been around as long as search engines. _____________________

I don't know the answer, but one way to make sure is to contact the person and ask them to send you the exactly worded description info so you can put it in the pick. (I'll bet you never would have thought of that yourself. /me hits own head.) Dont hit yer head, you will give yourself a wicked headache ![]() I know I could put it in the pick, I just dont want a bunch of store ads in my picks when I am more happy with ones of friends, quotes and such. What I did do was go to their store and ad them to my profile, then edited the title, picture and description for what I wanted. I am just curious if it is just the link that gets counted for search, or if it has to be the entire thing in hopes that they are getting credit for my picks still since I adore the stores I have in there. ![]() _____________________

If they have, and you change the Title, you won't be helping the place as much. You will be helping a little, because the number of links is a factor according to the blog, but the Title is most definitely a biggie. _____________________

I would much rather put stores of people I respect and want to support in my picks. Getting paid to do it just seems icky. I just had to know what your important Picks were... *COUGH* 7 of 10 Picks set for Liome..... *eyeroll* LOL _____________________

not many is using this method probably due to the high overall costs involved. but its really interesting to know how the profile camping system checks for the pick of individual's profile.

far more creative than keyword stuffing which has been around as long as search engines. This is correct, better yet good creators always have a cleint base. Reguardsless of what their prices are. If they good products and services. Results in high number of REPEAT costumers............ The thing to remember is LL can change the rules very easily. There already did it once by lowering (or removing) the relevance of events at a place to the search ranking. But this search will always be "gamed" in one way or the other. Simply calling your land Joe's Widgets is a way to game the search results for the word widgets. Well this issue is not that big of a say as they say. Nobody is "cheating" as they say how can they they losing money to gain money ( if i understand how this new systems works). I highly doubt LLABS will do anything about this since its doing no harm to the over all game. |

Yes it does make a difference. The words in the Pick Title (and possibly in its Description) matter a lot to the place's rankings for those words. You can put an invented word in and get it to show for the place when that word is searched. It's possible, even probable, that most places haven't yet tailored their land's Title and Description for the new search, but they should. If they have, and you change the Title, you won't be helping the place as much. You will be helping a little, because the number of links is a factor according to the blog, but the Title is most definitely a biggie. Thank you Phil, helping a little is all that matters really. Even a tiny bit helps, and look at that, they didnt hafta pay me a thing ![]() _____________________

Well at least they are paying something! With Alts they pay nothing at all and get the same benifits.

I still think they should have gone with game the system checkboxes, so you coulfd just click a box for every 100,000 points you'd like to game the search system by

Sorry off topic in a way, but how do you find out who links to your store? I am way to new in selling to be looking for myself but I would still be interested to find this out.
Thank you in advance. |

A while back I suggested that newer avs' Picks aren't counted, but I'm now convinced that I was mistaken. I now believe that an av must have "Payment info used" for its Picks to count as a links to places. I checked quite a few such links and they all had that. None even had "Payment info on file", but that doesn't rule it out.
It means that Picks from unpaid-for alts are no good. It also means that places that offer money for Picks are highly unlikely to offer it to everyone. If they do, it'll be a waste of money. The system can check on those details for an av, so it's likely that some people will be accepted, and some won't. _____________________

From what I've seen so far, I really think a third-party provider could use the same engine and the same text sources (crawling the web pages conveniently provided) and come up with much more useful results. |

The All seach *needs* people to write their land titles and descriptions, and object names and descriptions, to suit the search. Without it, no search system can deliver the best results in SL, because the sources are so limited. The results will improve over time, as people learn that they should do it. The land title and description get everywhere that matters - it's so very important for rankings - for giving searchers the best results. _____________________

Oh and 200L a month to suck up one of my 10 spaces? Not enough, goodness. Hopefully this doesnt catch on ![]() But you only have to keep it there for 24 hours. I can see people making a career of this. 10 picks x 200 per day = 2000 per day Just run around and sign up with ten new stores every day. At the end of the month, start again with the first ten. _____________________
