Things on HUGE orbits near sim edges? WTF?

I have wanted to capture it to AR the owner but no luck so far.

I don't understand why people feel entitled to create these senseless things, all they demonstrate is -- on a large scale -- their foolishness and immaturity.

If you file an AR on this file it against LL. The owner of the sign is probably as upset about it as you are. My lands are plagued by this problem. I have some large revolving searchlights. They are constantly going onto the large, fast orbit around my sim. No sooner do I catch a few and put them back where they belong and some others go orbiting the next time I log on. It's not the owners fault.

Since reading through this thread, I have noticed more of these things...all from the same club. I guess you're right - the owner likely does not know this is even happening.

I'll file some bug reports whenever I see these things.

Thanks

I AR'd this phenomena before I read threads such as this, and heard in-world that it was a common occurrence. I was forced to choose whom to file this against and in my haste and impatience just tossed my alts name in there.

It's obvious that the 'owners' of these items are unaware of their items 'orbiting' the sim(s).

I don't know if this is actually causing problems for the sims but it sure is annoying to repeatedly have the offending item(s) demand your attention every 30-60 seconds.

I believe that *I* was one of these "ufos" last night.

I've been working on a simple biplane and I decided to enhance it with a rotating propeller. I got it working in my experiment skybox and took it to Fortuna to try it out. I hit a sim boundary (Georgian?) rather fast and I "lost" my plane and my AV started circling wildly through several sims (I believe it was Fortuna and maybe Bethel). My camera was still disconnected from AV so I could see myself flying through the air and my mini-map showed I was crossing several sims in a large circle.

I teleported back to the skybox and I wound up careening madly through that sim as well until I relogged. Then, within the skybox (a closed 20x20x20m space) rezzed the plane and made it physical and touched the prop, which turned on llTargetOmega. It bounced madly around the skybox and it took me about 5 minutes to finally get an edit locked on the plane, even in this contained space.

My theory is that llTargetOmega is severly bugged, especially in physical link sets. I've only been coding in LSL for a month so I wouldn't say that it's not my fault that it was so broken.

For what it's worth, even after I set the llTargetOmega to a zero vector and removed the script from the propeller, it didn't stop rotating (with plane non-physical). Also, even after deleting the propeller, the plane's vehicle script never did work again, even though I reset the script and edit and saved the script.

Now the problem may not actually lie with llTargetOmega but might be a combination of mis-guided scripting and lots of lag (asset server lag). I'm still fairly new here and don't have enough experience to really say.

Sorry for the excruciating detail but my experience seemed related to the issue at hand and the details might help a Linden to get to the bottom of these UFOs.

PS: I've given up on the idea of using llTargetOmega for anything, ever, until this issue is resolved.

I asked for a Linden Answer on what these things are here

/139/ca/154682/1.html#post1358601

I want to know if they should be abuse reported or bug reported.

I use targetOmega in a number of rotating birds and sharks, where I have not seen any problems since the last time LL broke then fixed that script call. But I want to know if I am setting myself up for more problems with this huge orbit issue.

FWIW: All of my objects that have at one time or another gone into orbit around my sim do have a rotation script.

If you can grab one do they stop spinning? If so that sounds like they're simply hapless objects affected by an issue with llTargetOmega (which... makes things rotate client-side)

There were several items spinning in a large circle near my store in Plush Delta. The circuit they were traveling was huge and covered 4 sims. I did manage to grab them. One was a store sign that the owner had set out to spin on top of his store. The other 2 were spotlights that had been rotating on top of a club. I got owners names and imed them. They of course thought I was crazy. I think its something to do with the spin/rotation script gone bonkers.

I have them circling in Turnip and Sudal Sims.. I have been able to grab them but as soon as i try to delete or reutrn them, they get away. I also was not able to get to the edit menu on them to see who the ower was.

And yes u agree also, i consider that a form of greifing, i have went to great lenghts to make my sims nice.. now i have this ugly thing circling above every few seconds

Chill out, people.

The owners of these wayward prims are NOT griefing you! They are as much a victim of this as you are, and are almost certainly unaware that their normally well-behaved rotating sign, lights, fish or whatever are going AWOL on them.

Get it straight. This is a GLITCH IN SL - a problem in the game that is causing code that has worked perfectly well in the past to malfunction for no apparent reason at all. NO ONE who owns any of these things is doing it on purpose, OK?

Catch the things, and ID the owner. Then POLITELY contact the owner and get the owner of the items to meet you, so they can catch the runaway prims and take them back into inventory.

Once the Lindens fix the glitch, it will be safe to put out these rotating linksets again. Until then, best bet is to hold them in inventory.

The lindens say this latest update fixed this problem. It seems so for me... anyone else still seeing them?

I could see myself flying through the air and my mini-map showed I was crossing several sims in a large circle.

Now the problem may not actually lie with llTargetOmega but ...

Funny.. similar thing happened to me on my gondola vehicle about 3 weeks ago. I was on a huge orbit... circling through TEAL, HINA, MARAWA, and RUA and back. Started on a botched sim boundary crossing. My camera was following me. I couldn't stand up, release keys, or teleport off the boat. Had to log... and I think the sim ended up rebooting as well.

There were no components of my gondola using llTargetOmega() when this occured. I had a few passengers abord though I wouldn't rule out that one of them may have had an attachment using it... bu t it seems unlikely.

Here's hoping this bug is actually squashed!

*sigh* I can't say if the problem still exists or not. The two sims where I was able to observe it reliably both got sold, wiped, and reformatted by the new owner. So I no longer have a place to test it.

Appears fixed, not seen the problem for a couple of days now.

Thanks LL :)
