Things on HUGE orbits near sim edges? WTF?
Until you bump up draw distance its hard to even know they are there. They are objects that sit on a sim border/corner and orbit. their orbits are usually more than a sim and they move too fast to catch for identification. Once you learn see them, you realize they are EVERYWHERE. Its like the movie "They Live". They are in at least 4 of the sims I have visited. Something on that large an orbit must be causing lag. That many HAS to cause lag. Almost seems to be lag on purpose. I have sightings in-world from at least 2 people. Anyone else? Anyone know what is going on? ... or as the title says WTF?

Yeah, I have that problem in Kishijoten as well.... red, green and blue cone shapes that zip around, over and over, in a multi-sim orbit. I've heard other people mention them as well. The ones in my area appeared right after the big update.
As far as I'm aware, they're something to do with temp-on-rez objects, and the scripts for them being borked. A Linden came and watched the cones for awhile, so I know they're aware of the problem.
I have no idea, though, whether this is a bug that's being worked on, or whether you just have to hunt down whatever contains the original objects and ask the owner to reset the script. I hope it gets fixed soon... I don't see them all the time, but frequently enough that it's starting to drive me bonkers.

Are you talking about objects moving through your land in an orbit? They are colorful and fast? Some looks like balls and christmas candy canes. I just had to ban all users and objects from my parcel so that it doesn't bother me when I am building something.
I just saw this today. I am in a main land SIM.

If you can grab one do they stop spinning? If so that sounds like they're simply hapless objects affected by an issue with llTargetOmega (which... makes things rotate client-side)

The ones in the Kishijoten area move in a fairly regular orbit that cuts through several sims. I've never been able to catch one to confirm what it is, they move too fast. All I know is, they look like semi-transparent cones, about three in a group, in several colors.

This may be a temp-on-rez item gone crazy. I have some angelfish that should swim lazily near a lagoon, and which are at this time acting as you describe - moving almost too fast to see.
Finally ID'd it by catching a screen shot as it whizzed by.

I have been seeing these for the last several days. Never could catch one to try and identify what it was.

Guess I am not the only one then. Same thing, semi transparent cones. Edit select box won't select them to see who's they are.

I think the semi-transparent cones may be searchlight beams, at least that's what they are in Plush Enigma.
We've also got a 6m flying ring orbiting too which is really bizarre.

I was tempted to ask if they make you Black out, and wake up later with a Sore Fundement, or if they only appear in the Vicinity of Sim Trailer Parks, but as these were rather obvious jokes, I'll leave them alone.
I have a question for scripters, Is it Possible to create a Phantomed Prim, or a scripted field that will slow, or Impede the passage of objects, or Avis through it? (Sort of like Script Flypaper) The only other thing i can think of is to have somebody with an Effective personal Shield system stand or Hover directly in the Path of the Object. My shield system For example would automaticly fling the object off Sim as soon as it Impacted with me, and in the Process identify the object to me.
UFO Fishing could become Mildly amusing for a time, let us know how it goes.

I think I found the center of one of them.... A few faces on this cube are orbiting at huge distance from the center object. If it is a face of an existing object that is causing it.... I wonder how to fix it?

Once I located the center of one of them it sorta stopped it. Near as I can tell this object was just a simple billboard with an omega script. Problem is they are showing up even if you don't have draw distance that high. (which is what prompt me to bump it up to take a look) And once I looked... ickkky. No wonder the client is lagged with all these ghost objects.

If it's a scripted object, like a searchlight, causing it, would resetting the scripts make the orbiting stop? Would that make the phantom pieces disappear?

From: Ilianexsi Sojourner If it's a scripted object, like a searchlight, causing it, would resetting the scripts make the orbiting stop? Would that make the phantom pieces disappear? It might help. This is a bug specifically with llTargetOmega() and linked objects near sim borders... I have a neighbor with a 9 prim rotating sign and occasionally the outer 8 prims will whiz through my airstrip. If I go and grab the sign the outer 8 prims will sometimes jump back into place, sometimes not. Haven't figured out the pattern yet.

Here's a picture I managed to snap of the ones in the Kishijoten area. They have a more or less oval orbit that cuts through several sims in the area. I'm still trying to track down exactly what they are. If anybody wants to see them in action, come hover over the forest in Kishi... I'd love to hear any suggestions as to where they're from.

I Live Help'ed this over the weekend. Dee and a couple others TP'ed in but the object stopped soon after and we couldn't track it down. It was suggested that this could be a viewer bug or an llTargetOmega gone bad. I chased one of these for a while last night, right around the time the grid attack started. It stopped after a few minutes but, just by luck, I spotted its normal home and it was indeed a spinny omega thing. I think this is an llTargetOmega bug (exploit?) where the object somehow loses track of the center of rotation. To find one of these, your best bet is probably to try to eyeball the height and the center of the rotation then look around that area when the object stops orbiting. I'd bet that you'll find it there, rotating but not changing position. edit: yeah, that Jillian said.

It's actually fun in a skeet shooting kind of way to try to right click select these things as they go by. It freezes them for a few secs. But then, I'm easily amused.

Looks like club lights. Find a nearby (center of orbit) club with a light scaffold but no lights and check the creator of the lights. Maybe they can get a note out to customers that something is going wrong with the lights.

I caught one of these orbiting things a couple of days ago. It was a shark with a red ball in its mouth making huge circles thru about 3 sims. It was passing right thru my upstairs living room and pissing me off. Managed to R-click it, EDIT, selected the move function, and dragged on it... it vanished and hasn't returned.
