Land Griefing

This post has two purposes;

One, to find out better ways to deal with this situation.

Two, to call this person out, so everyone knows to avoid.

Here's the situation. EDIT: Name removed since it's against the rules. She owns the Spinach Casino in Highflyer, it's the giant freaking ugly red building, you can't miss the thing - is a casino owner in Highflyer, who has purchased a very large portion of property in that sim. Which was fine at first, but then her casino started to spam my property with her objects shouting. But by then it was a moot issue because my girl and I had already purchased property in another sim. We still had the land in Highflyer though, and had created a building as high as you could go, we were going to make a cool nekoish playground there.

Anyway, today this particular person instant messaged me, asking me to sell the land to her. I told her no, we had plans for the property. My real reason for not wanting to sell was it was the first property I'd bought with this account, so 512 of it was free, which made it cheaper to just keep it rather than sell it and buy something else (land prices are so high anyway. What a hassle.) She made a big deal about owning everything around me, but I wasn't selling. I didn't want to. I shouldn't have to.

So then she proceeds to grief the hell out of my land. First it's shoving prims from her land through mine. I couldn't seem to remove them either. I abuse reported.

Then it's gravity objects, I abuse reported and then removed them. Then I banned her. Then I set it so only people in the group could create objects. Then I turned flying off. Then I turned scripts, push, and anything else I could think of off. Then I set it to access list and added only my friends.

Now I am pretty sure she's just going to set up a bunch of heavy lag-texture prims around me, but I'm at work now so I can't check. My problem is the thing was supposed to be a place where anyone could go and hang out. I wanted to build something really cool there, and I was well on my way with the things that Mia and I had done there. Is there anything else I can do to make it so she basically doesn't box us in like this??

Seriously, this is stupid. I will not be bullied into selling my property.

You should probably remove her name from your post since its against Forum guidelines.

Not to mention she has a really stupid name.

I think you can abuse report her for this sort of thing shes obviously in the wrong.

I thought about that, but seriously, I didn't want to sell the land. It's not even about the money at all. It's... The freaking principle of the thing. I shouldn't feel forced to sell my property.

Changed it so her stupid name isn't in the post anymore. If anyone wants to know who she is, insant message me in-world, and I'll gladly tell you.

You missed editing out the second mention of her name. Her name is well known to those who wish to combat the people who ruin land in SL. Sorry you have to deal with this. Keep filing abuse reports - yes, it's the principle of the thing not to sell it, but do you really want to put up with this much grief for the principle of it, when you may be able to get a lot of money out of her for it?

That particular name should get reported too ..

I mean if they changed Gaybot's name ...

Youd think that one was worse.

In the end I guess that's what I will have to do. I still feel like there should be something else I can do about this. Something LL could do about this, but I guess there's not.

If you feel that strongly, by all means do not sell. But for 50K, you could buy a much nicer plot and afford tier a few months. With the added bonus of not having an asshat neighbor.

Just make sure you get as much money as you can for the land, buy something in a nicer, more established area, and pocket a profit. She's a known ad lot dealer, so she's got plenty of money to pay you for the land if she wants it.

No, you guys are right. She has me at a disadvantage, and I guess the only advantage I have is that my land is right where she wants to grow, and the only thing I can do is charge her for as much as I possibly can.

Simplest solution (in my limited draw distance) is to have a civil conversation with her in which you ask her to simply leave you be. If she becomes abusive, report her. Record the conversation by all means. Hopefully you won't need the rest of this post, if she's willing to just let things go.

An alterntative (and longer, more dramatic) option is to not sell. Leave the land as you have it set, remove all your items from it, add a sign simply stating "Casino Protest Land" on the ground and give it a week or two.

During that week, however, start a group called "Casino Protest" or whatever you want. Put in the group covenant your intentions for the group, to protest this bully. Add all your friends to the group, ask strangers to join, whatever.

Check the map frequently. If you see more than her fair sim share of people on her land, send an abuse report. Call up your friends in a group IM and ask them to do the same. Mass TP them to the location every time (depending on how much of a hog she is, this may not be useful for more than a handful at a time).

If they all AR for abuse of sim resources (a very reportable offence) LL will take notice, eventually. (I've done this myself, it took 2 weeks).

Don't give up hope. I had something similar happen to me and I kept ARing the offenders and guess what happened? One day, when I logged in, all of their buildings were gone and a little while later they were busy rebuilding them far from my property lines.

I am assuming they gave the Lindens a load of crap and were properly rewarded. :)

They never bothered me again.

If she's that much of a prig and a known ad lot dealer, why not sell your land to

....drumroll....

the arbor project?

I'm sure they'd get a lot of enjoyment out of having a branch HQ, complete with advertising signage. Right. Next. To. Land. She. Gives. A. Rip. About.

Too funny! Rumor has it though she recently stopped cutting land and I think she's off the ban list now last I checked.

Actually Broken, if you decide you want to make a stand and keep the land (and I still think the hassle is more than it's worth), you can put up Arbor Project signs on the property yourself. Here's a landmark to their location: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pero/186/159/108

It's worth a visit just to educate yourself.

That is the person who was behind my land fiasco a few weeks ago. The one I posted on the forums where the sim went down, and then when it came up, the land had reverted to the original owner.

And when I asked her if she could help me or if she had even recieved my money, she would not answer. She just said "I own this land" and then re-split it from when I had joined the parcels together.

When the Lindens finally gave my money back, the person I spoke to did tell me that she had gotten my money for sure.

People like her are basically criminals, in Second Life. It's wrong, it's immoral, it's dirty. Second Life isn't my real life. It's a -part- of my life. It is an important one too, being that it's where I spend a lot of time with the woman I love. But I shouldn't have to deal with THIS kind of crap there. Extortion, mafioso mentality, being attacked both 'physically' and 'verbally.' It's deplorable behavior, even in real life, and in a virtual world it's just stupid. This is supposed to be a place where we can come to be with people in a way we cannot normally. And yet people like her persist.

Meh.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. A friend of mine gave me a really bril idea on how to sell the land in a very sly way, which should be amusing.

Xerses Goff is their founder. Drop him an IM.

With all the lovely cheap 512s all over the new continent for low prices now, I would stongly suggest you let the land go for as high a price as you can get, put the ugliness behind you and buy that place to hang out in a new low lag sim. As it is, I'm sure every time you go there you have negative associations, so might as well sell it to the hag.

Hm well if she was nice about it, I would sell and let her have the whole sim. But seeing she not, give her abuse report hell, then if you do sell sell it to a 16m plotcutter :P

That 512m2 of tier applies anywhere, not that I think you should move.
