are sl marraig and sl partnership the same thing? ive heard some people say they are theres really no right or wrong answer here but its interesting to hear orher people's thoughts

Yes and no the only thing the partnership on your profile is for is to show you have paid SL money to have this persons name on your profile. Some use it after they have married some to show they are D/s and others just to show a connection. It costs to be partnered and costs to dissolve it

An additional thingie of Partnership is to link an Alt-account to the base account.

So in fact it's more the way you use the partner feature.

It's important to remember you don't get any legal rights within a SL partnership.

LL is not going to treat you any different even if you have partnership with someone. Let us say he disappear. LL will not help you and give you any RL info.

Let us say you have a written agreement (written in SL) that he shall pay tier. LL will not help you and transfer money from his account even if he has millions §L there.

Partnership in SL is just a way to say: I'm taken.

It is possible to write a RL will, so the partner or somebody else can inherit the avatar's inventory and money when someone dies. This involves RL legal documents. Without that, you have no rights.

I don't see much point. It doesn't do anything. If I want others to know I am in a relationship, I can say so in my profile. Voyeurs don't need to be able to easily link to my girl's profile via mine. Still... the heart is not rational. Perhaps I'll get around to it one of these days after a romantic "to do". It won't change anything in our relationship though.

(Partnering, sometimes I long for it. Mostly, not. Mostly I am ok alone. I can't RP it, it's not in me so therefore would be too many RL implications. Best left alone, in my case.)

Most people use SL partnership as an analog of RL marriage.

However, there are some cases where business associates will partner, too. It's all up to you how you use this profile feature.

I've been partnered twice now. Both times I had weddings to sort of feel married, but the words marriage, husband, wife, etc. don't mean anything to LL. Partner is a sort of catch-all, I would assume at least partially motivated by gender-friendly political correctness and partially by practicality of only having to have ONE word instead of multiple ones. That being said, I have noticed a few people, lately especially, who use the concept of being partnered to mean they are engaged, and they aren't actually married (in their minds) until they have some sort of ceremony in-world. I'm OK with that, though it can be confusing in an apples-and-oranges sort of way.

One advantage of being Partnered is that it does keep away a small percentage of the people who would otherwise be hitting on you to go out with them. Not many, but some.

And if your avatar is female, and is partnered to another female avatar, it does give the guys some solid reason to believe you won't be interested in their advances.

Of course, it has no impact at all on the "Wl u hav sexorz w me?" noobs. *sighs*

I essentially did use that trick on one very persistent idiot who followed me all around a client site, with his pathetic "freenis" hanging out. Told him I wasn't the least bit interested or impressed, and that I could readily rez a far more impressive "emblem of manhood" myself, if I cared to.

Then I banned and ejected him from the estate.

I have.... it only worked ~30% of the time.... now I stick with "no, go away" followed by mute/ban/eject if necessary

Have the wedding for the party!!!!!! And it's not a real wedding before the bride has crashed at last once and the photographer tear off his/her hair RL because the avatars will not render properly!
