I have noticed the number of Avie Last Names has no limit now. It use to be 150 before the removed the name of the ones you can choose from. After 3 months now i still see the name last names for newely born accounts. Its starting to be a pain to see the same last names now for 3 months ago around second life. Is it possible to change the list of new names?

Yes names have been scarce for the last 3 months, all the normal names now require numbers, even the movie/cartoon names need to be destorted now to get one, Random letters/numbers will be the go soon as with $6.5 million name options gone forever, you need to think of what was your 7 millionth name choice soon

Just for the record, I brought Bilbo99 from Starship Titanic forum. I had had a Bilbo login but forgot the password Therefore no guys, I didn't try Bilbo2, Bilbo3 etc. Passwords: Anyone else fed up with the infuriating position on websites that stipulate a different number of characters, sometimes mixed case, sometimes with numbers. Never one password to fit all? Yeah, I know, bad practice anyway.

Perhaps, as bad as the retention rate is, LL figures that in 6 months, there will only be a couple hundred people remaining with each of those last names.
Now that the floodgates have opened to the millions of unwashed masses, why would LL care about people being frustrated about having to add numbers to user names? It makes them seem more like AOL and Yahoo and the other big companies.
It IS really tacky to have to say something like, nice to meet you, 123JenniferXYZ1, can I help you remove that box from your hand?
I suppose people could start picking long words out of dictionaries to avoid that.

I think maybe people don't care anymore what name they use in SL as long as they can get in.
When I decided to join, I thought about my name for 2 weeks, discussed it with others and finally joined with my current name. So maybe people should start thinking about it first...
Greetz,

Gah, every other place that has a limit of this sort does! *snorts* As for them being like Yahoo or AOL.. at least those companies do have some form of customer support.

Usagi No, there is no new information from LL about this yet. But, when LL finally adds new names to the list, you can be one of the first to know about it. Simply subscribe to my new alert list at http://slnamewatch.com I have a script that checks the Join Now page periodically. If any names are added, it sends an email to everyone who subscribes. While you're there, you can see how many avatars have each known SL last name, and you can find out what famous RL people have each last name, where applicable. (Did you know you were named after the master swordsman and author of The Book of Five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi?) Only 59 other avatars share your last name. Congratulations.

There are enough words in the English language (and others, no reason to leave non-English speaking cultures out!) for there to be no need to use numbers or random letters in a name. Sorry to sound snobbish, but you can usually make a few assumptions that 99% of the time are correct about people with these names - they're usually the same sort of people that think "Roflcopter" is a good name too. I tend not to talk to people with numbers in their name, unless they are exceptional people who are articulate enough for it to be clear that they have some underlying reason for their apparent silliness. Bilbo for example gives a good account of himself here on the forums, and so clearly doesn't belong lumped in with the rest of the XSJimmy999 brigade - but alas he seems to be a rarity.

seeing 123(whomever) or XXxxx(whomever)xxxXX etc can be a lack of creative thinking when creating a user first name.
