bug: Avatar jumping out of skin

I, and it seems like everyone I see, appears to have their avatar mesh screwed up. My arms are stuck out all the time, legs do not move, and depending on my rotation my avatar's body seems to warp off to one side as a 2d plane. All my attachments are rendered correctly however.

Addendum:
Zealous but welcome bugging there, Eep

Weird...haven't seen that one (yet). Maybe try taking off all your attachments? Just tried my smurf av (16 attachments) and it looks fine except for the invisible texture not working. :/

Nope, changing my avatar to one of the many different configurations I have, naked and bare of all attachments or equiped to the "hilt", is fixing it. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but I see a lot of things with a rainbow hue. At first I thought it was just wacky Lindens showing off transparencies and lighting, but having made the trip to Luskwood's avatar vendors and seeing ranbow hued vendor pictures I think something's wrong.

Addendum:
Actually I saw something similar to this a while ago with disabling fog making slightly transparent things a sickly yellow, which is what these do look like (only slightly rainbowish now, kind of like gasoline on water). But fog rendering is enabled under Debug...

What's more, I can't select my avatar by right clicking on it, I can only select my attachments.

I can confirm that my problem stems from avatar rendering. I normally run with bump mapped and cloth. A moment ago I turned down to Normal and restarted to find that my avatar moved again. The mesh itself was horribly jagged, and I still could not right click on my avatar, but at least it wasn't bobbing around when I walked or floating unanimated.

Addendum:
Whilst reading Eep's comments on av hair looking off with regards to vertex shaders, I whimsically disabled it expecting no change. My avatar now looks perfectly fine. I think someone needs to investigate the vertex shader section pretty soon...

I've recently spotted proof that I'm not alone in my graphics plight. At Bonifacio 234, 193, 36 there is a spinning floppy cube with textures on both sides showing people's avatars floating about with their heads in their chests (much as mine was).

Weird...I have vert shaders and "bump mapped & cloth" av rendering on yet am not seeing the rainbow effect (except fog-tinting during drag-select when disabling fog) or av skin issues (aside from my av's hair).

I've taken several screen shots and can reproduce it on command. If LL would like to send me a slightly modified version of the client that writes rendering data to a log file I can run around with and without the shader active so they can figure out what's borked.

I posted about that in my reply last night to Torley's post in General, IIRC. I also had discovered that turning off Vertex Shaders fixed it. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.

Two dimensional
Weirdness

What version of drivers are you using? I havn't seen this problem pop up with my 9800 pro running on Omega 3.8.221.

Old ones. :)

Upgrading to the omega drivers fixed it so that vertex shaders works.

I suppose I should try the omega drivers myself. I've got the latest, though stock, drivers from ATI for my 9700 Pro. Yet another case of ATI being wonky with SL?

same problem here... affecting all avatars in sight.
will update drivers and try again a.s.a.p.
(using Radeon X600)

Updated drivers seemed to work nicely :-)

I just tooled around in SL "alpha" for a while with the newest Omega drivers, vertex shading is active and all is well. Still, a lot of people are skittish enough installing a new program, let alone replacing their video drivers. And if they run into a problem like I did, who's to say they could fix it (like I obviously did). I think more attention is still required for the vertex shader so that the default ATI drivers work properly.

The vertex shader work a little... odd... for me too. I posted in another thread, but I'll post here too. Is everything supposed to look eastery? Everything's shaded in soft pinks and mint greens... it's pretty, but not very realistic ;)

Also, my regular hair appears to turn into a flexie prim when I turn on the vertex shaders... where as in the current version of SL, when I turn on the vertex stuff it just makes my hair blow in the wind, this one appears to stretch my hair down, adding a couple /feet/ to the length...

No, everything's not suppose to be eastery looking. I assume you mean this odd green/rainbowish hue to everything transparent? The change to the Omega drivers for me fixed that, but before hand I did get the same thing.

I've noticed problems with the built-in hair, after my drivers were upgraded.

Basically, my pigtails (at maximum length) are rather short and the hair is sized incorrectly, letting my scalp show through (this is the same hair that works fine on both the main grid as well as on preview with vertex shaders turned off).

The pastel "eastery" look and the rainbow textures were two different problems that were both fixed for me by the driver upgrade. I suspect the pastels came from the new fog being incorrectly drawn.
