Steps to reproduce the bug: Compare av hair in SL 1.9 and 1.9.1.
Observed results: My SL 1.9 hair doesn't have a chunk missing from the back, or the dangling part sticking out of my neck like it does in 1.9.1. It's the same hair shape and has not changed since 1.9 so it should LOOK the same in 1.9.1.
Expected results: Av hair should be the same in 1.9 and 1.9.1.

This seems to effect those using the Windows client but not those using the Mac one.

Turn off vertex shaders. (believe me, it will work...)
I'm not sure, but I think the vertex shaders aren't up to speed with all of the other work LL has been doing on the renderer. Although, strangely enough, I can only see shiny AND transparent together on the same prim with vertex shaders turned ON.

Weird! Why would vertex shaders affect av hair vertices? Does disabling vert shaders fix your av. OK, seems like it does after reading your edit to that thread. I agree...vert shaders need a re-examination or 3.

I'll say this, WITH the vertex shader on everything looks nicer and my frame rate seems to be higher. If it weren't for the rainbow hue and my avatar looking screwed up I'd call it perfect. WithOUT the vertex shader, my frame rate seems to drop by half (and it's already hanging between 9 and 14) and software light maps seem to flicker on and off whenever my camera becomes still or moves respectively.

I think it depends on your video card... I can honestly say that on the main grid (1.9.0.22), vertex shaders look nicer and improve my framerate by 1 or 2 (ATI Radeon 9600 128MB). On preview, however, although the lighting seems better (distant objects darker, avatars appear smoother lit), I suffer about a 5 fps drop. Certain things are strange with vertex shaders on as well, such as the premature balding alot of avatars experience.

This appears fixed in SL 1.9.1.14 but no mention of it in the release notes...unless it's: From: someone * Resolved issue where enabling Vertex Shaders would cause avatar hair to flicker ...but that's not what this bug is...who knows...
