Do you ignore ResMods?

Pity that other thread got closed. Some interesting potential there, but meh. Anyway, I have a question.

Do you ignore ResMods? My question is inspired by this quote:

From: Jonas Pierterson
I cant automatically ignore them but I can -choose- to not look at what they post or their opinions.

Actually, I hate to admit it, but I've been doing exactly this for weeks, now. It's a pity, because I enjoyed many of the ResMods before they were anointed, but part of the program appears to require paragraphs and paragraphs of braying about being a ResMod, why threads are being closed, and on and on.

Rather than re-engage discussions, as was hoped, ResMods have a tendency to show up in a thread with a finger wagging, politely informing us about the spankings we'll all receive if we don't behave. If not that, the ResMods show up and bloviate about how hard it is to be a ResMod, the challenges of responsibility, their fantastically enlightened perspective on a given topic, SPEAKING AS A RESMOD, etc.

It's all very exhausting to read, adds nothing to the forum, and I just tune it out.

If the answer is yes, doesn't this lack of credibility speak poorly for the program, even if everything else had been implemented properly?

Where's the obligatory "this will not end well?" Does that fall under the pie option?

Well we all know my answer to this, but watch out! The resmods also call it 'reposting' if you quote an uneditted undeleted quote from a locked thread

It always does. ;)

It may yet end well, though. I'm genuinely curious as to how often people are actually paying attention to this stuff.

I probably should have made it public so we could see what the ResMods themselves do. ;)

I don't ignore them, nor do I pay particular attention to them. Regardless of my feelings on the program, I have full comprehension as to what is expected of me given the current framework. Anything the RMs say in regards to the program and in the performance of their duties as RMs isn't really much of a concern to me. Berating them and the program like petulant children will not change LL's stance. There are more productive ways to be heard. The program will work or not and attempting to force its failure through assinine behavior on the forum really doesn't help anyone.

That said, I do ignore one of them, but that has nothing to do with anything.

In theory, I think the resmod program could work, but since it's inception there have been far too many mountains made out of a molehill... and since the debacle of the "Edited by ResMod of '06", more people have turned against the program.

There are many forums that are moderated successfully by their customers. But the ones I've seen that are successfully moderated as such usually do not have the customer *named* as a moderator - they get some handle like "moderator blue" and can still freely post as their customer name. (good grief I hope that makes sense) The "transparency" seems to be the problem here. By keeping their resident name, if they ever had a problem with any other resident who also posts here, many suspicions arise.

Oh well. I don't really care one way or the other. I don't see me joining the ranks of ResMod any time soon.

This may sound odd, but I can't possibly keep track in my mind who is or isn't a moderator, or what the bleeding edge of textual acceptability is.

I know they are listed, I know there have to be rules somewhere but... we are adults, yes?

Missing the target of civil discourse is about as likely as missing the pot when you pee - sure, it's possible, a rare mistake my happen, but... come on folks!

It doesn't take much effort to hit the mark, and if a mistake happens it's possible to clean up the mess yourself in short order.

Volunteer policemen/firefighters have no authority then?

I believe it is called a delagation of authority. The authority being the Terms of Service and the agrement made with Linden Labs. If they want the ResMods to have authority over the forums it is thus very correct and proper.

And if LL wants people to be able to ban people at all heights over their owned land, thats also right and proper, right Ranma?

I only voted for the "pie" option because the other three don't really apply. I don't really think about them too much either way, as my normal behavior doesn't draw their attention in the first place... which, I suppose, is where Joy's "mountains made out of a molehill" comes into play. For the most part, however, it's not the RMs making it that way. :p

Well, not it is not offical just LL looking the other way. My hope is that the bar lines go all the way to the ceiling of the offical ban. I am very close to quiting SL. As you Americans would say "take my ball and go home" It does not matter as much since my days of flight are over. Will fly my Flight Sim or better yet the real thing!

In any case breaking the TOS can get you suspended or banned. Not lisening to ResMods just might get you that result.

I don't have to listen to other residents except on their land.

And in the official LL Forum in the cases where LL has anointed special resis with special mod power.

You can repeat "I don't have to listen to resmods" all you want, Jonas, but that doesn't necessarily make it the truth. It does, however, make you incrediby repetitious. :p
