Why is it acceptable for ResMods to be sarcastic and rude?

In this thread, a new resident asks a perfectly legitimate technical question very politely in hopes of being helped by other Residents, in the ridiculously named Resident Answers forum. Admittedly, the question really needs to be answered by Dell or Nvidia, though I am sure several people could have helped her. That didn't happen however, because a ResMod swept into the thread and posted this incredbly rude response:



How is this even remotely acceptable? There was absolutely no need for sarcasm and hostility. The customer simply could have been referred to Dell or Nvidia because the problem is beyond the scope of SL. Instead, a new resident is treated like shit and a ResMod gets to play Super Hall Monitor. This should in no way be acceptable - sarcasm and commentary are inapporpriate. This is not the personal forum of the ResMods. Basic respect needs to be part of the job, or get the hell out of it. No wonder new users are intimidated to post if it is fine for the moderators to treat them badly.

Torley personally assured me said resmod would be reprimanded the last time he left a rude comment when locking a thread; he said he was never contacted by anyone, so obviously one of them is lying to us.

This response was beyond reprehensible and almost more disgusting than the fact that he's still on the job.

The resmod's behavior is completely unacceptable for a company trying to convey a positive image. If I received this treatment as a paying customer I would stop being a paying customer.

I don't give my money to assholes or people represented by assholes.

I suppose any mention that they cross posted is irrelevant to why the thread was closed?

I would have moved it to the Tech Support forum but... they already found it. A technical issue that effects how SL is run... like something that is intermittent and effects a client feature, sure cross posting would be permissible.

Though in retrospect, you are right. I let the years of working in tech support come out (if you have ever worked in tech support for an extended period of time, there are times when you just want to throttle the person for being a dumb... I'll just stop there).

I'll go back and edit the post.

Your comments to the OP in that thread were unacceptable. Now you come into the thread advocating violence against those who pay your bread and butter for being "a dumb..."

I have been in tech support longer than most residents have been on this planet and never once, have I wanted to "throttle" anyone.

For shame.

Arnt the forums in bad shape as it is? as you know it all depends who is on duty and whothe look at you. ( if you are hated by one no matter waht the issue you get banned)..........some head people just banned people without warning. Others just alittle more patient. But indeed there is some problems in the system.

None of it is any excuse for being a rude. If you can't handle the job with courtesy, then as I said, get the hell out of it. Her question was not stupid - god forbid that she is not as highly technical as the great Strife so that she could determine where to get the support she needed. When did you become so high above everyone else? When they gave you a little forum badge to run around with?

Here again, your contempt for people shows loud and clear. There was nothing dumb about her question - and I have worked in tech support for extended periods. If you are so frustrated that you find people are dumb, then move the hell on.

I will not PM or IM you - I will continue to abuse report every single abusive moderation action you take, send emails to LL, and encourage others to do the same until they remove you.

What you consider acceptable or not doesn't make it less then the truth.

If you have never wanted to throttle anyone in the course of your work in tech support then you are the right person for the job and it is a good job for you. My experience was tainted by workplace politics, after I left them, they replaced everyone in the department (this included my boss and his boss too). The people I was displeased with, weren't the customers, they were my coworkers and management.

MM some people just don`t want to get alone. They rather just come around and looking for problems.

Then by your own admission, the fact that you are wanting to throttle someone/find them dumb is proof positive you are not the right person for the job. Just because you are volunteering for it doesn't mean you should be peforming it if you cannot do so with respect. Not being paid for something is no excuse. No one is asking you to do this, you are choosing to do so.

So, you did get paid.

Now admittedly, you take your bad real life work experiences out on those who politely request support for technical issues on this platform.

That is simply not acceptable. It's hardly the standard LL and it's residents expect.

Reflect on how you would've felt when you were new and had someone treat you that way.

She didn't ask a dumb question, it was your response that lacked intelligence.

Sorry but she mentioned SL in her post and that she was trying to find the right drivers so she could play SL. THAT's how its relevant!

Furthermore you owe that chick an apology. That was beyond rude Strife. There was no need for that. Not even crossposting or years of tech support is an excuse for that sort of response.

This is hardly the first time that complaints have been made about Strife's behavior.

This attitude towards a well-meaning, unknowledgable resident who was simply trying to get some assistance is utterly unacceptable.

To any and all Lindens who review this: I hereby request -- and I sincerely doubt that many people would disagree -- that Strife be removed as a resmod. He has no business in a customer service position.

It just looks like a gang attack on the mod........Strife. All she was doing is explaining that from the closed thread to refer to the dell site. And No I don`t think Strife should be removed. But it sure looks like a few are going to get banned from this attack thats for sure! Strife Is only trying to be helpful and mostly informative as well.

I say this much if there was a few watch down lindens online at the moment there would be atleast 5 people banned for trolling On the spot!

It is very typical to call anyone who you don't agree with as trolling, and when multiple people are upset by the same thing, it's "a gang attack". I did not name Strife in my original post - and even he acknowledged his post was over the line and went back and edited it. There was nothing helpful about his post -it just chastised a new user who was seeking help. This wasn't a one time thing, it is a pattern of abusive behavior that has gone on for months. I am glad you are so excited about the thought of people getting banned for sticking up for a customer - that speaks volumes. I suppose everyone needs an apologist.
