Should we not point out glaring mistakes in the ResMod program because they're commited by people? Does that make them off limits to talk about because they're then personal attacks? I don't think so.
The reason I personally didn't mention her name is because it's not her, the avatar, or the person behind the avatar that I feel need correcting, but rather the actions, the ability for the actions to exist, and the program that allowed them. Some of the attacks on the program will undoubtedly come across as personal attacks on those participating in the program to those who are sensative to it. If someone were to attack the WWF (not the wrestling one) or PFAW or another group I'm involved in, then I might feel those attacks were directed at me personally. But they aren't. And you can't reasonably expect nothing negative to be said about a program simply because that program is made up of people. I put together a long-winded post that is really a huge waste of time, so I put backspace to work ![]() I feel like we're continuing to attack the people in the program unfairly, instead of focusing our anger on Linden where it belongs. Statements like 'Abuse of Power' and 'Inside Job' and 'Can't understand english' seem pretty extreme to me when the infraction involved the editing of one word in Cristiano's post, on Barbarra's first day as a resmod. Note that the removal of that word did not obfuscate the meaning of Cris' post in the slightest. In fact, it wasn't even noticed at first. Unless I'm misunderstanding, and there are a littany of other abuses performed by Barbarra that I'm not aware of. (Supposedly there is one other unconfirmed edit done at the same time on her first day). If there are other abuses, I'll gracefully be wrong and stfu. In reading this thread, everyone keeps saying "She" or "The Resmod" - never does anyone say "Barbarra". What? If you don't say her name, you're not attacking her? If you just refer in general terms, that means we're just "attacking the program, not the people?" Look - its cool to be upset about the program. I see issues with it myself. But I don't feel that waiting like a cat ready to pounce on the slightest mistake from a resmod, then shoving their face in it ad nauseum is what I would call 'constructive'. At least to me, that's what it seems like we're doing. I felt like the "Russian Thread" in General was - instead of an intelligent, thoughtful debate - a well placed 'trap' that many were hoping and praying that a careless resmod would fall into so it would add to our seemingly limitless supply of ammunition. Don't we have plenty enough as it is? _____________________

Found this thread after poking through the russian one. Just want to note that the thread has been moved back to General, re-affirming Jeska's earlier ruling on it.
I know that consitancy in moderation and the training of new ResMods currently leave a lot to be desired. We're working on it. _____________________

is made up of people. ![]() The res mods sit over there in their forum and agonize over what to do about this thread and that thread, and they do their best to be fair and even handed. You get hit with dozens of e-mails every day begging you do do something, but most of the time you decide to do nothing, knowing that most problems work themselves out. _____________________

Jonquile - I don't mean to say we shouldn't criticize the program. If that's what my words are coming across as saying, its not my intention.
Nor do I think that its wrong to point out a problem if/when a resmod f's up. What I've got a problem with, is the way that we're doing it. Its like we're prosecutors, and the Resmods are witnesses for the defense. And we're ripping their testimony (their actions) to shreds. If people were point out all the resmod's program's failings without the insinuation of them being powerhungry, or deliberately trying to royally screw up our forums, or being more or less stupid - you probably wouldn't hear a peep out of me. I guess what's getting me, is that while I don't know Barbarra well - every time I've met her in world she's seemed like a good person. It just seems like an injustice to me that all this heat is falling on her shoulders - when it should be Jeska and Linden carrying that burden instead. _____________________

I feel that it is LL that is carrying the burden and the blame. I have yet to see one person say, "That Barbarra is power-hungry and she's the reason this program needs to be ended, now!" Rather, I see her actions, which she did commit and admits to commiting and posted a mea culpa regarding, being used as an example of what can and has happened with this program.
If someone can use their ResMod status to edit another's words, even during an Oops, then it leaves the field too wide open for future abuse. If one ResMod oversteps their bounds, either through maliciousness (which I don't believe was the case in this instance) or ignorance, then isn't it reasonable to use that as a yardstick as to what problems this program can, and already has, caused? In my view, it's not only reasonable, it's neccessary. Any concern not based on experience is hypothetical, and oft times attributed to hyperbole. This is not a hypothetical case, but one that's already happened. It's a fact. How would you suggest we address our concerns about it without even hinting at the case history? Jonquile - I don't mean to say we shouldn't criticize the program. If that's what my words are coming across as saying, its not my intention. I felt like the "Russian Thread" in General was - instead of an intelligent, thoughtful debate - a well placed 'trap' that many were hoping and praying that a careless resmod would fall into so it would add to our seemingly limitless supply of ammunition. Don't we have plenty enough as it is? I honstly started that thread after having 2 threads moved to off-topic within 20 minutes - while nearly identical ones were left in General. I couldn't find the logic behind what seemed to me to be a very incosistant methodology inconsistancy so i asked if something isn't understood by somebody does that automatically make it off-topic? I chose to ask it in a babelfished russian because I thought the proof would be in the pudding, and evidently many people ARed it - answering my question with a "yes, if something isn't familiar to me it cant' be on-topic". "Hurray", I thought, "General is now the place in which everyone must understand what's being discuessed, by definition". The flip-flops by the resmods themselves illustrated, to me at least, the very inconsistancy that the program needs to improve on. Finally, I found it very telling to read the post which sent it to offtopic: Эта резьба была двинута к-teme по запросу нескольких резидентов which babelfish translates as: This thread was moved k-.teme -.teme along the demand of several residents This tells me that the VOLUME of AR reports seemed to determine where it belonged, rather than the content itself - and this distresses me, while at the same time explaining some of the baffling movements I've seen. I'm sorry if it appeared as a trap to gain ammunition, I did not intend it as such. It seems to me it's one thing to ask a question about something, which can be discussed in a vacuum, and quite another to ask the question by actually peforming an experiment. _____________________

I would say that what most of us in this thread can agree on is we want the resmod program ended.

That, in my eyes, *was* the mistake that was made. Unfortunately it's a common one no mater where you go. Making good, decicive judgement calls under preassure is never easy, making calls that go against a prevailing (or very vocal) opinion is harder, even if you're right. It takes practice, patience and a very thick skin. _____________________

If I ask 50 of my friends to AR the use of the name Taco under sexist grounds, it doesn't make the use of the name Taco any more sexist than if no one had ever AR'd it. (Sorry Taco, just an example. ![]() _____________________

I agree with this, if it's a popularity contest, I will NEVER get a single post through, and I can't understand how that isn't like the first thing explained in the resmod program - judge the posts, not the AR levels. speaking of popularity, do you you really think somebody that hangs out with siggy would even have 50 friends? please. _____________________
