Oh yeah, the meeting pretty good fun and I think some helpful information got shared, which is all good enough and fine justification for a meeting.

This sort of thing isn't going to be able to magically divine new facts out of thin air as long as there's not a Linden present, and you can't expect a Linden presence at every Random Group Of Concerned Citizens Meeting (least of all on a weekend) or they'd do nothing else...

So it's a good place to help each other, since it looks like lots of people don't come within 100 miles of these forums, and old news for us forumjockeys was like a revelation for others.

Next and following meetings?

Vinci, the next meeting? Can you post it, or shall I? I didn“t keep a copy of what I posted, but it seemed to work OK :)

Maybe we can make it a regular meeting? So we can set it for a few weeks at once?

I enjoyed the meeting and the people. It was good to see so many Linux users in one spot. I wouldn't have come to the forums if the meeting hadn't occured either. Keep up the good work folks.

Not going to be able to make this afternoons meeting but was keen to report on an amusing experience with a friend's poseballs where upon standing up I would be left stuck, frozen, in space miles above his pad until I hammered a million-billion times on the stand button. Sometimes the sit positions were completely wrong from my perspective but fine from his. I know cos we compared snapshots. Ahem...

I don't think so. I have seen it, though rarely, since 1.7 at least... In 1.6 I wasn't doing much with poseballs. And in 1.5 I wouldn't have noticed anyway - I was SO new! :D

(At least, the funny pose position bit. The rest does seem to be new in 1.9)

I arrived a little late, so I didn't get to hear what the group was talking about in the beginning. After I was there we went through some of the obvious topics like Open Source and pro / contra concerning SL. We agreed mostly that OS is not an option at this time, but that the linux client should be part of the official development as soon as possible.

After the meeting slowly started to come apart finally, there was a lot of joking about furries and drama. I'll upload some screenies to the wiki later :)

The group is getting to large for an informal chat, it might be an idea to arrange topics ahead of time, speakers, that sort of thing.

It doesn't have to be all have to be Linux / Linux client based if there isn't much to talk about (and we don't want/need to revisit the same old debates week in week out). Don't forget our primary reason for being here is Second Life, so we could have somebody talking about building, scripting, character animation (with blender?), places to go or a primer on some of the various lifestyles SL has to offer, etc etc etc.

Good idea, that. If we have a proposed theme, and a presenter (or more than one), I will add that into the event description.

I would hate to see the general discussion part disappear, though. It's also fun just to exchange experiences, as well.

But a few central topics would IMHO be great :)

Sorry I missed the meeting, except for a few minutes, twice. If it's not RL, it's SL chewing up my time :p

Me too :)

Just thinking that as the group grows we just end up talking over each other

I agree, I tryed out the 0.4 linux build of Avmotion last night. It works nice.
I would love it if someone could talk about blender!

Should we switch to having a membership fee? Or perhaps a weekly whip round?

This would allow us to pay people who come along and speak / do a presentation, as it can require a lot of prep work. (at the very least we should compensate the speaker for any textures they had to upload for slides etc)

I am more for a weekly whip round. Someone can put up a Tip Jar, for example, and the funds go towards things like this.

The question is, who does the Tip Jar belong to?

I am a miserly but regular tipper; still saving my L$500 a week to buy out Anshe :D , but I will tip every week.

Is there not some way to have group funds with a couple of ppl nominated to have spending rights?

Otherwise, a tip jar is perfect. It should be voted on, but for what its worth, I think it makes sense to have the jar owner and the land owner the same.

I would suggest to do this only if a sustainable group is in place. But I will not do this now, because I am not sure if I stay in SL any longer.

I think the Linux client user group is large enough to make this worthwhile, and currently all the officers are lindens (and if we don't trust them, who can we trust!)

I don't mind if the tip jar is in my name.

I would prefer it to be a group officer, personally, but i am not sure they are able to take time for the "social" side of the group.

Maybe we can pay them our collection, to get them to do some development for us? :D
