Sex has its place. In SL is not it.

I think there is a market for it, but at the same time I don't think that "everyone" is marketable to it. The escorts in SL may benefit from this. Those in SL who have a relationship in RL and are separated by distance and those long time lovers who have sex in SL may use this.

However, I couldn't see too many people placing an order for one of these gadgets and having it on their desk, waiting for someone to come in SL and press a few buttons for their sexual pleasure.

But then again, I wouldn't expect anyone who is planning on using it to come out and say they are either. Seems like a personal subject that should be kept personal.

Just my 2 cents

You know, I disagree with Lewis Nerd more than I agree with him on many issues, but I'll say this much for him, he has always advocated for things that he believes will help SL as a whole.

And while I'm pretty darn liberal as to what I think should be allowed in SL, i'd also be mad as hell if I had to look at an in game advertisement for one of those contraptions on the land next to my house.

What I see as the real problem here is not what is allowed or not allowed in SL, its being able to experience SL without having material which you find offensive being in your field of view without any way to turn it off or to avoid it other than by running into it and moving along.

Zoning laws on some but not all areas of land would give the best of both worlds, but that's just my opinion.

Maybe we just need another level of land rating.

PG - as currently.
M - more relaxed, where swearing and suchlike are permitted..
X - explicit stuff like sex clubs.

How the hell do you clean those things out when you've, erm... spilled your seed?

To answer your question, there's a video that shows you how to clean them:

How To Video:
http://www.fleshlight.com/main/video_byo.php

after looking at the video, I'm not convinced that warm water alone is the best way to tackle that job. But they say with proper care, it "will last a lifetime"!

Some of us are opposed to legislating taste in any form in SL. Just because I don't have an SL schlong (well, not a FUNCTIONAL one, heh) doesn't mean that no one should. I also don't believe that sex is an evil, dirty thing that brings anything down. Being down on sex, and so repressed, reminds me of a horrid time when Joe McCarthy was basically king and people were afraid to express themselves.

I don't think that's a bad idea. PG and M really don't define the SL experience. For example, in most Mature sims, you'll rarely, if ever, encounter sex. The most I've ever seen in the Indigo / Olive region is scanily dressed avatars and coarse language.

What we *really* need is I - Immature.

This thread is amusing on soooo many fronts (backs, sides ...), and I simply must say thank you to all the posters! Great way to start my forum scan today.

Lewis, I fully support your right to have the SL experience you prefer/enjoy, so long as it doesn't infringe upon others' desired SL, and I hope that you would find a way to do the same. :)

The product mentioned here is amusing but frankly, not surprising, I've seen (NOT used tyvm) various devices of their ilk around the net for over 10 years I'd guess and while entertaining to consider the (forgive me please) rammifications, they're often a bit expensive for a casual test drive. And yes, we all know about technology and mechanical devices gone horribly wrong or overboard. Borg? False Maria? RoboCop? Anna Nicole Smith?

All kidding aside, to deny the prevalence of sex and sexual interest/activity amoungst the worldwide (SL/RL) population would be like trying to hold back the ocean w/a thimble. However, just as any place else where choice is an option, one can turn away, not attend, mute, change the channel, or simply say "Thanks but no thanks".

Then again we could all sound like Oliver, "Please sir, may I have some more?" (singing ensues)

Why am I thinking that a top-of-the-line surge protector and UPS might be de riguer (sorry if that's wrong, my French isn't, period) for users of these fascinating gadgets?

Sign me,

- Still chuckling over all aspects of this joyously arousing thread :p

That's kinda covered under the "X", because pixel humping is most definitely immature behaviour.

Won't work, my 16 years in the Scouts means I can do, and undo, most knots.

Things like that don't do anything for me anyway.

It wasn't supposed to!

Lewis, what if someone hated 70's Disco and thought it made SL seem silly and stupid, thought everyone should be scripting and building intellectually challenging things, not dancing, and wanted to shut you down because of what you do?

Live and let live.

Hey Guys!

Remember when I did this a year ago?

Remember when I did it open source and for free?

Remember that all they've done is adapted the $150 for $5 in parts pressure sensor (Well, and $40 or so for the Fleshlight) that is the Interactive Fleshlight?

http://www.slashdong.org/content/projects/freesex_network/sex_and_sl.php

*sigh* Ya'll forgot about Dre. I mean, qDot.

PS: given the customer base in SL you could double your sales by making a version that supports anatomically correct animal penises. :-)

You mean like these?

I really can't stand disco music and find most of the things from that era to be hideously tacky and a complete waste of time, however, you'll never hear me try to legislate someone else's taste.

It's like the "war on drugs" in America: alcohol, nicotine and caffeine - not to mention dilaudid, demerol, oxycodone and hydrocone - are all legal, yet marijuana is a problem? It's all the same: legislating taste, and who's got the $. It really saddens me when individuals or government (like the Parents Television Council... you can visit this disgusting organization here: http://www.parentstv.org/) try to make their taste the only option available instead of maintaining the healthy "live and let live" mentality. If you don't like sex in SL, that's fine... it's not my cup of tea either. That's no reason at all to try to have it banned, that's bordering on fascism.

Regards,

-Flip

yeah, sure, that's what everyone says: "I don't do it, but if 'other people' like it, that is fine..."

:p

Don't like 70's disco, either, but everything else 70's reminds me of my childhood, it's a nostalgia thing, makes me happy. :)
