With Elf Clan closing, which is a terribly sad thing I am happy to bring a new light into all of your perceptions as we have decided on the name of the sim and to happily say that it has been ordered and everything is right on task. The name of the sim is the Territory of Solheimer. I want to include that the city name will be something entirely different but we have decided on the name of the land.
I would also like to welcome Nich Steed to the development team. Nich Steed joins the current dev team of Chuina Asturias, Zekeen Pheonix, Mean Golem, Schlitzie Martini and Zarry Lamington as our head scripter! Welcome Nich, we are ever so glad to have you!
One more thing everyone, Since elvenmyst is closing i shall put a new donation box up soon and give you the new link to it and look out for a soon comming website and more lore chapters!

Just a friendly note for people who are axiously waiting for the sim. I thought it would be a great idea if people told us what they want soooo......
If you have an idea you want to see in our sim, The Territory of Solhiemer, send a message in game to me, Zekeen Phoenix, and tell me all you want to see in our sim. I'm basicaly a concept guy, I come up with the ideas for the combat system and stuff..... I'm the smart one ^ ^
I figure our sim will be more fun is we have what people actualy say they want to have in it. Our sim hasn't started technicaly, but it will be within a few days or a week or 2, so send any of your ideas.... if you got too many send me a notecard with ALL of them. Or if you're lazy just give us some insight in this thread.

To answer your question Malachi, Drow will be allowed. Also many other types will be also.. and just because we are not allowing actual magic does not meanyou can not play a magic type. It would just have to be a magic type that could not use their magic and were forced to fight as mortals or something like that  .

To add more on the thought of magic, while magic itself won't be allowed, we will create and allow RUNIC type objects. Typicaly this would be in the forms of characters on swords, armor, and such giving it mystical abilities. But we may limit the idea from just holding a runic item to let you shoot fireballs and what not from your hand. Runic is more of amplifying mystic powers, and less of just doing magic. We have decided to allow runic things, but the definition of what we will allow is still under some discussion.

Minor Update- Design Plans

Solhiemer isn't here... yet... maybe in a week or two. But in the mean time, we have a model of Solhiemer, the plans for how it will work. As you can see, a majority of the sim will be the city(unnamed city). As looking on the picture, the very bottom shows the great gate and the entry spot, this is where you enter the city at to the market district. Next up is the market district, open to all, mainly composed of cheap stalls and maybe a few expensive shops. Next is the residenial area, here's where it gets interesting. You can rent a plot and build a home according to rules (maybe even vend in it, haven't decided), or you can rent a prefab building and decorate the inside, or even get a cheaper prefab on the roofs of the buildings connected by rope bridges! Next up is the Guild and upper residencial. A guild for advanced crafter citizens, this is the group so people can talk about what to build, how to build, or for non citizen and non guildees, ask about items you wish to buy or locate. The upper residential will probably be lot and build a home. Next up is the Fortress, the government and military building of the city all in one. This will hold a great hall, a throne, and possibly a cannon or 3 mounted on the roof muwhahaha! To the left of the city is a large open area, that is the recreational district. It contains an arena, maybe gladiator style, an amphitheater to promote plays and public events, and a tournament area for more chivalric competition such as: hand to hand combat, archery, fighting across a small woodenbridge to knock down your opponent, or maybe even jousting.
(the model is not 100%, or even accurate in design, it's more representation, such as the low number of buildings)
So to put it in better perspective, we have the Gate, the Market, the Residential, the Upper Residential and Guild, the Fortress, and the Recreational. We'll have it so you can only go up as hig has your city rank, need to go up further can only be done by a guard to escort.
For any doubters we DO have Solhiemer ORDERED!!! That's right, it was order a bit over a week ago. We're expecting it shortly, so please bear with us. You new home will be ready to accept citizens!!!

As a newbie, my perception of SL is that it is a huge social mixer without much in the way of competition although I have seen slingo and bowling. I've found that physical action in SL besides walking and flying is not all that intuitive. Is there any info posted online about this sort of thing? As someone who loves RPGs, the concept of an RPG inside SL is very exciting. I associate RPGs with mostly combat and wonder how this is handled? Will basic SL controls be adequate for combat or is scripting involved? And is there such a thing as death in SL, even if it's only temporary?  I assume that there will be no leveling feature and that armor has no protective value to speak of or can these things be built into SL? I've also notice some serious lag issues in SL (over my cable modem) and wonder how it does with any physical competition? Are there going to be usage fees to participate in this RPG? Thanks!

Glad you asked Eureka. To answer your question our combat system is requiring a lot of scripting for what we are wanting to do. Part of the exerience will be ofcourse normal SL movement etc. but then we are also taking it to he next level with some pretty intense stuff. As for leveling we wont have actual levels since its not a full RPG but we will have skill leveling which will introduce all new gameplay to SL. This includes different weilds of weapons, blocking etc. but then also running, swimming etc. As for armor we plan on it having a difference in your defense. Either it will add HP or just add to blocking, we arent sure yet but depending on what armor you are wearing your stamina etc. will change. So expect if you are wearing full plate armor to be running and attacking a slower than someone in leather with a dagger or so.

this sounds like alot of fun, and as someone who useto run my own stricly RP sim, i'd love to see more of them around. unfortunatly my sim was put under by finical burdens, and a lack of aid from LL itself, but that dosent mean its not a good viable sidea still. if you need any help anywhere with the sim construction, or city/game planning, i would love to help you guys out. in the meantime, i wish you all the best of luck!

Hey Mordred we are alway on the look out for help as we are planning on most of the items being player crafted etc. For example, if you belong to a guild and make a really good weapon that you would like to have in the combat system, we will script it and sell it with the others in the guild hall. 5% comission of each sale will go to the city but everything else will go to you.
Also an update on guns, we have the animations working and here is where they stand. Guns are a very expensive weapon to buy at this point in time and not everyone will be able to get one. At release we will allow up to 20 guns to be allowed to the players. We are not sure when we will add more or if we will but to buy a gun first you have to have the money but then you will also have to have high prestige, have to go through training, and then get a license to be able to bear the gun. So it will not be an easy thing to get a hold of.
As for money I need some advice so I though I would ask the people. Would you all rather have to spend Lindens or have an ingame money currency which you could convert???

We have Gun AND Bow animations done, just wish we got our scripter online to start our system. Anywho, gun licenses are used to allow the purchase of guns, not the use of guns. Being the sole maker of guns(I'm good at making em), you have to show a license, which you aquire with prestige, and then after seeing it I allow you to purchase your choice gun among the many I have made and scripted. This incluse an assortment of matchlocks- basic (high power ,bad accuracy and slow reload), sharpshooter (low power, great accuracy, slow reload), Cartigue (low power, low accuracy, fast reload), buskshot wide (low power per pellet, wide spread, slow reload), Buckshot tight (lower power per pellet, tight spread, slow reload).
As you can see there will be a diverse range of weapons, and from this grouping you can have differences of types.
Also, the real reason of my posting- We'll have tons of fun stuff in the city, even non combat. An Amphitheater to promote plays and such, there's bars to go to (to be jolly or start fights), we even got some Stockades made so you can have your portrait painted after you commit a misdemeaner. Lots more will be added as the ideas come to us or are given to us. So if you have an idea let us know!

I am glad to see you guys working on this. City of Lost Angels Already has a RPG sim but its dedicated to Dark RP (not high fantasy). And I wish you the best on the combat system, DCS (Dark Combat System) has been a painstaking task and is getting close to a release cand, (though the DCS system is in public beta). Id be interested in seeing how you guys handle some of the things i have had to work around.

Just wanted to give an update on some things are going on with the sim. Just a note that the sim was ordered and will be here soon! Also, we are looking for a dedicated scripter who is talented and is wanting to contribute to the cause and join our dev team! Nich Steed could'nt participate anymore because of his busy schedule so we are having to drop him from the team. If anyone out there though is willing to join the team send me an IM in secondlife  . So I'm completely new on the SL scene but I read through this thread and this sim sounds very interesting. I searched solheimer on the map and found the place but it won't let me teleport there. Is there some other way to get to sims or am I doing something wrong? Thanks and sorry if it's a newb question.

Some updates for everyone  . For one I would love to wish everyone a happy holidays and announce that Cubeos Bofin, the scripter responsible for many custom projects, an amazing fireworks system, and Sl Boxing has signed on for the combat system. We welcome Cubeos with open arms! Also Higbee Protagonist will be helping build the sim in terms of landscaping and more  . Welcome you two to the Solheimer team  .

Our website is in full operation minus th rental info which is soon to come for shops and houses in the sim. Our combat system is under development and the sim is coming close to completion. Greetings Everyone! Just thought I would come on by and give an update of how everything is going. I do have to admit that our slacking team has been pushing back the release date but we are hopeing for a release soon. The sim is 90% complete with some lack of some minor details. Also i would like to thanks Nich and Smetty for helping us with our combat system. They are working around the clock and we are actually hopeing for a beta this weekend which means more people will be allowed access to the sim.
