I'm with Logan. The Collective is doing well and great for them. They made a good game, and it if it happens to be a perfect fit for the style of competition this year then great on them. I'm competing against them as well, and I will also congradulate them on thier good work.
Most of the game developers don't seem to have problems with one another, so I don't see why any of you who aren't competing with them seem to be so concerned about these issues. The point is to showcase new games and have some fun. Spend more time supporting the games you do like and less time complaining about the ones you don't. Great job to all game developers this year, despite what any one in these forums say, you all did an excellent job and I'm honored to be in this Expo with you! Salem Penguin SLictionary |

That wouldn't have prevented you producing a fixed-deck pay-for-play demo version for the Expo, though. They do have freebie cards avaliable. Gotta pay for the hip pack though. Also giving away everything is not what the contest is about... |

Well, I have no particular issue with The Collective; what I was saying is that it shows the problem with basing the score on profitability and then not regulating how profit is taken. Maybe LL intended it to be a competition related to finding the best business model for a game, but I don't quite think so. I'll agree in part - an interesting contest could be made with stricter rules and regulations about how the profit was made. One of the games I was lucky enough to play so far had all the money paid into a single pot, and all of the money was paid right back out to the players, many who paid it right back in to keep playing. Do I think this is unfair? Not in the least, it's a genius way to compete, given the nature of the competition set up by the Lindens. But, the way it stands, I think it is geared a bit towards "finding the best business model for a game", or moreso "showing how games can be fun and profitable in SL", which I think is fine. _____________________

I agree, while I am trying to get in the first 4 (I wouldn't want to miss out on a free 1/4th SIM) I do not feel a real competition 'drive'. I haven't had time to play the other games (I did try castle war once, which gave me a good time) but I'd like to play them soon (I had the big pressure of opening darklife, which caused me to work until 6 AM in the morning for 2 days at a row!)
But I really don't have any problems with the developers of the other games. I think their parcels all look very interesting and I see a lot of people playing their games so I bet they are fun. Darklife team will be testing out all the other games really soon! I just want to ask everyone to stop asking to disqualify DarkLife. My granddad got really sick in the last 2 weeks before opening and he had a really bad two last weeks before he passed . Therefor I couldn't work on DarkLife, and it was impossible to let someone else finish the game ![]() I know we 'broke' the rules, but LindenLab made those rules and it's their competition and their rules, so if they want to make an exception for us that's their call. If any of the other games were late because of RL-problems I wouldn't want LL to disqualify them either! |

If you have an idea for a new game, just build it! Who knows what the rules will be for next year's expo. We're still working out what the rules are on this one ![]() So don't let any potential Expo become an excuse for not realizing your idea. The Expo should be the last thing on your mind. _____________________

Hey Calix, I like your humor. I am thankful one of the kids on my team came up with this experiment. Let's see how it goes for a game that is strickly pay $1L per play. We are looking at alternatives to event hosting. None of us have the time

Hey Calix, I like your humor. I am thankful one of the kids on my team came up with this experiment. Let's see how it goes for a game that is strickly pay $1L per play. We are looking at alternatives to event hosting. None of us have the time ![]() ![]() Ironically enough Tech Warfare to this pt. had 1 event and zero hosts or gimmicks to get ppl to show up. They just did on their own and word of mouth did the rest. The number of 10L plays is staggering. The number players who teach their friends and do the leg work is great as well. One arena broke and 10 ppl had the sense to move to a smaller skybox to play. Im not sure what you mean about rpg's not fitting since the rpg in the expo Darklife seems to have a lot of fun gaming elements. See the thing is ppl wont goto something they don't like forever. The whole let them eat cake concept I guess is applicable. No need for big donors when plays are in the thousands. Heh also I think Darklife not being up at first helped all the players bc their base was mingling all over (so those of you who want to boot Darklife might want to rethink that stance...and they do have the coolest builds Ive seen). Most of the ideas have been given by the players and hey as long as they have fun then the gaming experience lives on. I think all of the games are doing fine without having to lure ppl. The thing about gaming is it takes time, esp. when making games within a game (though some might argue SL isnt a game ... yada yada). Rome wasnt built in a day and nor are user base or anything like that, I know for a fact that there were no big Tech Warfare arenas in months. What I find most interesting is how ppl if given a chance will grow to like something and create and innovate themselves. Heh there's my 2 cents...keep the change and everyone have a good time playing. Cheers. - Calix _____________________

Hey Calix,
Cool down man. I actually said Dark Life is perfect for SL, it fits perfectly. So I dont know what you are talking about. I did not mention anything bad about anybody else. Jeez... We are just trying to make people read the rules that's all man. And not being able to in SL just for this 2 months for the time needed is a tricky problem for us too so we are exploring other means.. Techwarfare is a superb game it really is. I dont understand your problem man. Jesus Christ!!! BTW...i was just trying to explain why casual games are typically free, low cost, webased... etc... catering to folks who are not hardcore players etc... stuff like miniclip.com, orisinal.com etc...it's difficult to pitch such games against any of the EA sports or whater (35-45 USD range game). Hence the 1L$ for every time somebody try our game. Even if we get the game played thousands of times, it will never meet what the other games are earning. It's just a simple fact. Look at our score..divide that 1, this is how many times it was played (regardless of the fact that there might a few people playing a lot of times because a session does not last long, rarely more than 1.5 mins) Man...this is getty a bit nutty over here. calm down. Moriz LOL...I think you misread the intent of my comments as they weren't all directed to you, though I don't get how my feeble attempt at wit lead you to respond with a nod to me then an advert? Oh well I'm a pretty daft person so a lot goes way over my head...like Hale Bopp never really got that whole deal. ![]() As for calm lol, if I get anymore calm I think I'll be in a coma...this is as I stated (many times) just a game within a game and Im enjoying it... When you said "I think somebody was right on this forum to mention something about RPGs for e.g. which does fit. " I was just confused...the comments on darklife were to those who keep attacking them and I just felt that ppl should know that they are ok in my book. As for your mentioning the easy use of your game rolling over every thread or whomever is doing that well maybe that is where calm needs to take a chill. Who is that Mirnal person who has rolled over my last 3 posts even those in other parts of all the sl forums? I just hope they dont pm me a comment about fava beans and chianti. Lol hey whatever works for you all ya know. If you want to try pitch your game as being whatever that spam message is cool. Not sure if anyone reads this stuff anyhow. Best of luck to you and all the games (as aforementioned) the expo is a lot of fun. Cheers to all (heh is my B-day...do I get gifts lol...collective cards and some darklife stuff would be cool haha...j/k) Cheers, Calix ![]() ps...not that I dont love all the games but to compare them Madden '06 well sorry Im a sucker for a good xy fly flanker slash screen route. Heh when does football start again... ![]() _____________________

Thank you Tech Warfare players!
04-05-2006 08:10
Well I got off to a slow start. I had to drastically reduce the prim usage of my game and create limitations on factory units. I lost a day to that base64strings bug.
I made about 20 edits to 20 scripts to enhance performance. I am really happy to see the numbers this time around. People are starting to buy my game which has helped my score a great deal. My game boards have a play counter which counts each time a player completes a game. The play counters are now well over 3000! I am finally starting to think that all the time I have put into coding this thing is paying off. There are many really good games this year and it is an honor to be a part of the game expo. I owe alot to my team for all the time and energy they give almost every day. Thank you Tech Warfare players and owners! Create a team and get into the $30,000L$ Tech War Tournament. Finals will start May 1st so get your teams playing now! |

No offense to anyone, but just to make something clear:
Somebody told me that some owner from another game in arcadia 1 was pointing a finger at DarkLife, saying our scripts were lagging the SIM. However, a linden employee looked at the top running scripts (those who take up the most of the time) and they were all NOT from DarkLife. To avoid further 'finger-pointing' I will not post here what scripts WERE in that list, but as long as you know it's not us ![]() I didn't spend all those days optimizing the scripts for nothing ![]() |

When will we have the latest scoring? We've gotten numbers the last two Sundays, so I would guess that it may be today sometime. I'm anxious to see these, as well. _____________________

Maybe later this afternoon? Just a guess I don't have a clue. I relalized this morning that the numbers have actually been posted on Monday in the past. Due to the way it works, I always track the total in The Collective's bookkeeping on Sunday's numbers, since they essentially go through Sunday at midnight. My bad, let's hope we see some more numbers today ^_^ _____________________
