My solution, which is a halfway house between the old and the new is at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1917There is a Windows XP (may not run on Vista), non-official, use at your own risk etc. binary there too. Comments welcome - I know some of the other open-source community are working on alternative UI's too. Hopefully, LL will take them on board so that the viewer can become an intergrated whole again rather than skype plus some optional graphics which is how it feels at the moment. Matthew |

And I thought Sony was bad... I beleive LL has hired all of the SOE rejects. or so it seems anyways. Every day LL is becoming more like SOE. If your not sure what im reffering to, just surf the net for SOE. You'll see so much bad things about them, and how they ruin most of there games and never listen to the people who play them, the customers. SOE always does the opiset of what everyone asks for. LL seems to be following in the same foot steps. |

Don`t know how you use voice and or where you play on sl. But frankly i am always intersted how people use it and where. And system specs are another factor.

But one good thing I can always think of, what better way to improve your english, japanese, german, gaelic, french, etc, other than people to help you? Writing is a whole story by itself.

The added lag can very well be caused by voice. Voice is using a lot of bandwidth. If you don't have a fat pipe to start with then voice is taking a lot of bandwidth that would be used for SL. Anything that uses your bandwith will have a effect on SL performance. Some people will not notice it if they have a decent connection and a modern computer. People with lesser connections and older spec computers (I would say the large majority) will have added lag issues. Personally I don't care for voice either way. If you don't want to use then don't. Everywhere I go with dozens of people around me only a small handful have voice enabled and even a smaller few are actually trying to use it and of those few they are not having much luck. I don't know why people would be so pro voice here. It just turns it into MySpace with voice option. Who needs 3D if you are talking with someone with voice? |

The reality is some manager in San Francisco is determined to turn SL into yet another Voice Messenger with all the 3D features we love rotting away.
I think it was about version 1.17 that I was rescued from using the LL viewer by the Nicholaz and Able viewers. My worst fear is LL will server change to block them out.
It sure makes me wonder how two unpaid coders can keep SL on course while the LL paid staff is so ______ !

After last night's outage, i tried to login and it took ages. when i finally managed to get in, i was stuck in newbie shape and outfit, and got tons of "Unable to rez object, request timed out" and "unable to load gesture" messages. Didnt matter wether i had cleared my cache or not.
Finally i rolled back to 1.18.0.6, and behold, login was much faster, and everything i was wearing snapped in place like lightning... and that with an empty cache.
Stability on Mac OS X is much better, too. Been on it for over an hour now, no crash so far (knocks on wood). 1.18.1.2 was unable to "stay up" much longer than 30 minutes on the same mac...
Something's seriously broken in 1.18.1.2 i guess.
... and lindens closed my support ticket about it without even commenting.

My shyness slowly disappeared. Now my fiancee cant get me to shut up With the shy ones the key would be not to push for them to talk or type. It takes time for one to overcome the shyness. And yea, I still have my "shy" moments. Still cant use a phone well, but for some reason I can talk online? Go figure!
