Wow...I didn't think it was possible for the IM and Chat History windows to be any more bothersome and inconvenient, but I've been proven wrong! Oh, and even if you break the Chat off, you still can't make the IM window as small as you could before, so that's still more space gone! Yay!
...and what do we get for all this? Voice chat. Voice chat?! WTF people? "C'mon everyone, let's go do a level 20 raid on the shopping mall!"
Honestly. Just...honestly.

Frankly I am shocked about the sudden release. We had JUST gotten some real dialog opened up with the devs about making changes to the horrid chatterbox UI to unbreak the worst of it and then WHAM insta-release. I almost believe it was done ON PURPOSE to "shut up" the dissention. Well now the REAL dissention starts

Oh, and the best part? The Friends list is now compressed to the point of being a useless little postage stamp!
I mean, bloody hell, put Friends back in its own tab where it belongs! I can't even remotely keep track of who's online now.
Fail. Massive Fail.
P.S. - I'm about to do something I haven't done in the year and a half I've been on SL. I'm about to uninstall a version and put an older version back in. That's just how much I hate this "update".

I agree.
I have a good set of friends and I can only view 4 friends at a time in the window now.
I liked having the history and IM's in seperate windows for convience and for clarity of teh screen.
Now I can't shrink the "new" window to the size I want to to keep it out of my hair when I am in game.
I really want this changed ASAP or atleast have an option to use this new one or the old one in the next release

I agree the windows need to be returned to there older model. The newer models are to bulky and annoying. Place the friends list back in as a seperate window again. Sure put voice chat in but put all voice chat stuff in a new window for it alone so people who do not care to use voice chat in sl isn't effected by it. Most of all the people I know in sl will just continue useing Skype to chat instead of wasting there time with the new voice chat options anyways. After all who wants to go to a event and listen to 20 people all trying to talk at the same time....

Nuuuu! I can't go back to the older version! *cries*
Okay, seriously, explain to me how an update is "optional" if you can't remove it and you can't DL the prior version from the website?

I am just comparing the old and new side by side and if you don't have wide screen the new Communication box takes up nearly a quarter of a screen.
On a 15" laptop most probably a third.
Another Human Error on LL's part, I bet they don't publish that in the blog

For gods sake jeska atlease have option for not having luck those that are! I been around long enough tto undestand there are is a time for a release. But that was when the coders had common sence. But now, where is the common sence? I don`t see any indication that crashes for some where not even look at? But pretty the viewer more was! Now explain this to me. How can you even think about relasing a viewer that crashing. ven the higher end systems.......

And its running like pig, in the last 10 minutes I disappeared aprrox 65000 sqm across into the other region next to mine then just now I got launched out to sea, got know where wait for system to reboot to try again.
The old version is still fine.
Also, I can't get rid of the Red highlight effect that lights up prims with scripts in, in the old version I used the Alt key, in the new version I can't find a key that will do turn them off..
This a right way to go, frigging backwards in coming forward....

And I thought Sony was bad... Because at some point down the lane as they say. The lost sence of what we wanted. They are now trying to control how we use SL. Like it or not its here! I just hope i can stay stable with this crappy viewer. Been crashing to hell many weeks now.

There are quite a few bug fixes. It does not present a problem when I tried it.

this is amusing I have people tell me there is a new release out in game I log out download it, and now I have voice, something I never wanted, Now I am a lazy person and I say this alot, but I love my typing, its taken me years to be able to type as fast as I can, and using complete words might I add. this new verson is the same thing I looked at last year on the first look, I disliked it then with my history and im and friends list all thrown together, I might aswell go old school and throw up my inventory and talk using my calling cards. I do thank the person for showing a link to get a decent verson of secondlife up. there is nothing I have ever claimed sl to be besides a fancy chat room, you are now killing this idea. you are killing rp and you are killing the entire thing that makes it anything besides a chat room to those that build or look at there screen, I have a 19 inch wide screen moniter and well this sucks. improve something. dont ruin it, so far in sl there have been three things in updates ive actually liked that you guys did, friends list from the calling cards, the entire hud ablity and finally making the /me command work in IM

I haven't upgraded yet, thank goodness the new viewer is optional. However, from everything I have heard from a couple friends within SL and from these posts, the new UI layout sounds very inconvenient.
Linden Labs needs to add an option to switch between the new UI layout and the old one, in case users can't get used to the new layout, or outright hate it

Its optional for NOW. I expect it to be rammed down our throat as a mandatory download any day now. Just another thing to prove that LL doesnt listen to the majority of us. If I dont want voice I shouldnt be required to have it or to pay for the few that do. Trust me, prices on our 195 sims are going up, with the justification of voice to back the decisions regardless if you want it enabled or not.

I'm very sorry, but I love the update. I will use voice probably only in one on one conversations, but it will save me so much time explaining things and simply chatting with friends. Furthermore, it works without any technical difficulties for me and sounds simply great when the right settings are applied.
And about the communication window. Sure, I've read all the comments the last few weeks and I saw it this week for the first time in First Look. It takes some getting used to, but I really don't have much problems with it. Maybe make it scalable a little more but that's it.
