What's a Linden?

Did we just merge with the teen grid and I missed the blog entry?

My problem is I want a Linden available with the power to delete the offending objects.
I don't need you or anyone else suggesting how I can try and live with it!

Is that so hard for you to understand?

You do realize this sort of behavior can get a suspension from the forums, as well as from Second Life?

When I first joined SL back in 2003 Lindens were residents.

Too bad this has changed. Their residency is what is needed to reduce and quell sim attacks.

Well, there are almost 10,000,000 accounts now. There are maybe a few hundred thousand active accounts now. It just isn't possible for Lindens to be around like they once were. It is just a fact of life that people have to get used to. I have found that by going through the correct channels, things will get resolved. Not always as quick as I would like, but they do get taken care of.

Now, if they would only hurry up with the new "tools" to combat grieving, I think we could all be happier.

Actually 1 Linden per 20 mainland (public) sims should work. Private sim owners have all the tools necessary to deal with these attacks. It is we that own land in public, mainland sims that cannot do anything about particle spam attacks without a Linden.

So you want somewhere between 50 and 100 linden on line at all times? That means that if lindens where paid minimum wage, you are looking at somewhere around $2.5 million a year just so there are Lindens around. I just don't see that as being feasible. Like I have said before, I think the current system is at least adequate. At least now, they do have 24/7 support, and they have a special team that responds to AR reports.

Umm..Dnate? What? A special team? they don't even investigate the ar's these days. No log checks, no "Where were you on Thursday night and did you have any pants on!?" Just Boom. Some noob with a wal-mart special PC and dial-up takin a screenshot of you that only he and other dialuppers can see..And BAM Banned for a day for "Nudity" on HIP. Special team my butt. As for the origional OP, I honestly don;t know what to tell you. A few more Lindens "Showing online" would be nice. As it is they are perma set to Do not show online status. A fact about particles. You can indeed disable your ability to see the offending particles streaming onto your land. The sad part is even if you disable particles and no longer see them, your computer still tracks them creating lag/strain on your cpu. All a griefer needs to mess up a sim is one land parcel that allows them to rez objects and the whole sim suffers. Not much an individual parcel owner can do when that happens some where else in the sim, unfortunately.

I think the OP has been away from SL long enough to not know that this is how things have been in-game since early '05.

The Lindens don't want to be the police in the only MMO that truly needs them. It was different once.

The OP wants to see more Lindens in world.
It might not be feasible, nor the right place to ask, but I can't see how it would be a bad thing.
Yet there are so many people anti- anti- anti- the OPs request, attacking for even dare suggest it, like it's such an awful thing to desire.

I can't quite figure out a reason why people would NOT want more Linden's around.

Lindens are like our SL royal family, we just don't see them oftenenough or have magazines with 50% content related to their goings on...........

Are you sure about this? It doesn't make sense to do that.

I'm not a tech, but I'm certain this is right, I'm sure I've read somewhere that particles are client side, so even turning them off could continue to eat at your CPU memory.

However, per SIM there can only ever be 4032 particles active at anyone time.

But even so... when it is disabled temporary it easier to find the object that is spreading the particles. If the owner name is empty, LL is mostly already on it. Else you can AR the owner.

We do seem to be having a spate of grid attacks right now! I have dealt with the particle spamming attacks using most of the methods suggested in this thread, but the voice chat spamming with the "can I animate your avatar" message (described in a post earlier on) I couldn't sort out - I couldn't AR, I couldn't find the source object, and it eventually caused me to crash.

This source object renames itself to an avatar name and then throws out a repeating stream of "broadly offensive" chat.

Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to deal with these?

No one 'attacked' the OP. People have *mostly* been talking to poster #4 about his or her aggressive attitude and unrealistic customer service expectations.

Does LL's customer service leave something to be desired a lot of the time? Sure, but that's no reason to treat your fellow Residents badly when they try to offer helpful suggestions or mention that they've generally had decent experiences with the Lindens.

I don't know if this will help in this matter. But Torley Linden posted a very interesting video about location object. Maybe this can be useful in this matter as well.... I would suggest to watch it anyway.

Historically, periods of heavy griefing attacks tend to be work of just a few people who have decided to take steps to push LL into fixing things that have gone unfixed for too long. It is a negative route aimed at a positive outcome, much like viruses aimed specifically at IE and Windows with the intent of trying to force Microsoft to fix their bugs and security holes. Maybe this amount of misery is intentional agitation aimed at lighting a fire under some asses to get SL stabilized.

Just food for thought. I don't agree with the tactic but it does seem to get results.
