Dear LL, There are major issues with the Windows version of the new 1.13.3 viewer. Many folks are experiencing stutters/pauses ranging from 1-5 seconds where the viewer freezes then picks back up. Please see this link in the forums, this link in the forums and the many comments about it in the blog. Anyone else experiencing this issue and responding here, it might be helpful to post system specs as well. My system: Windows XP 2 Gig RAM Nvidia GeForce 7900 (256 memory) Intel Core Duo (I set affinity to one core) Editing to add Jira bug tracking information here.

Orbit and Pan are crap now, too
02-01-2007 12:36
I'm having the same problem. Viewer is constantly freezing, 1-5 seconds.
And Focus is terrible -- Orbit and Pan not only freeze, but I've lost ALL rotation on both of them, so they are useless to me now. I can no longer build objects under these conditions. Even exploring SL is miserable. This is the worst update I've experienced in my short time here.
I want the previous update back again.

Yup, this is by far the worst I've seen SL since I joined in August of 2004. This truly takes the cake. The lag, the freezing, the total inability to teleport, particles broken, inventory folders, objects moving randomly when you build, inability to texture things, right clicking on object accidently retexturing them completely... etc etc. SL is pretty much unplayable now in my experience. I hold no hope that it will be fixed.

I thought may be my HD was crashing, then tried SL on my laptop and same results. randomly every 5-10 min, the client just freezes for a few seconds. Cleared my cache and changed from 500meg to 200meg to see if there was any difference and there isn't. I am just glad my HD isnt dying

The stutter bug is back!
02-02-2007 05:33
I just knew this bug would rear it's ugly little head again... Gillian, found your JIRA entry here, thought I'd post it so people can add their own comments if they want to: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-92I have also linked this bug to the previous, duplicate bug which was closed as 'unreproducable' just the other week. It was considered resolved for the reporters - now it's back!!!

02-02-2007 06:08
Just want to echo above, last night (8pm+ gmt) was the worst i've seen in sl since joining...6 crashes in total and i couldnt even IM friends without dying. With this update I'm also getting freezes and bad lag during the day when users online is no more than 17k.
This just aint fun no more.

I should add, I am having no crashes and no unusual lag (haven't really been lagged since I got my new system). For me, this is very isolated to a stutter/pause in the viewer. Also adding in addition to filing a bug report and posting on Jira, I spoke to Frontier Linden last night who acknowledged the issue - at least saying, "we are aware." So perhaps they're getting the bug hunters on it, which would be great.

So tired of this. Second dead-line and weekend ruined by this stupid bug! I bet it will be solved on Monday. When are we supposed to PLAY the game?! It's impossible to chat, build, script with 5 secs delay every minute!
Last time I think LL restarted every server which solved this. So, what are you waiting for?

Well they likely aren't reading this, which is why you need to bug report it thoroughly, calmly and without lobbing insults via the proper channels (Tools report bug and Jira). You need to describe the issue, what you're doing when you observe it, and what your system specs are (none of which anyone on this thread has done). Above is a link to the Jira tool, which should help you.
I share your frustration to be sure.

Last time I went thru everything on my computer which didn't help. Win XP, sp2 btw. It was working earlier so I see no reason to investigate MY hardware and software situation any further. They fixed it last time so they CAN fix it again.

RAM? Graphics card? Connection? Processor? Just trying to help us all give LL as much info as possible. It's definitely a show stopper for some.

Just an idea and I don't mean to judge these guys but it could be Second life servers it's self. Maybe it's just getting use to the changes every computer goes through it, I know

I've been chatting andords drop out. <-like that (as if I typed "chatting and then words drop out" only the delay causes typing to be missed). Windows XP Pro SP2 1 GB RAM 3 GHz Pentium 4 Cable internet (I tested in at blazing fast) Radeon 9200 SE What more do you want?

XP Pro 4Gig Ram Dual Core Opteron 7800GT 8Mb broadband
Freezes lock pc for about 10 seconds at a time, occur every minute or two. Previously no crashing, freezing, lag or other related issues with Second Life other than this same issue after the last update. Bug reported, for what it's worth.

Thanks all - this will help. CJ, your system is killer - should definitely not be even a slight sputter there. A Linden should be acknowledging this publicly. Nothing official yet that I have seen. ps - CJ, I lurve your skins

Hi all — this sounds really annoying. Thanx for the linked info; to keep things simple, I'm going to check with our Developers and then comment in that public bug tracker issue.

But when is 1.14 released? How long do we have to stay out of the game? Trust me it's unplayable. Tried to script this weekend cause I was forced to finish something. Imagine coding with 5-30 secs random delays every 2 minutes. I could have died out of frustration! So please hurry with 1.14 LL, or give as workaround.

There's not going to be a workaround...it's related to Sim Caps. I hope that 1.14 will be next week? I honestly don't know.

I have seen this freeze as well, and doing a bit of observation with the frame console, it appears to be happening within the audio portion of the viewer pipeline. If you turn on Ctrl-Shift-2 (or the "Frame Console" in the Client Debug menu), and watch for when it happens, you will see that one of the colors will expand greatly when the stutter/freeze occurs. In mine, it is the dark cyan section, which is labeled as "Audio", so they have bunged something up in the audio subsystem that is causing a freeze.
Note that the legend at the top of the window is not in the exact same order as the bars below (well, they are ordered the same, but the bars are offset by about 7 colors/subsystems compared to the legends), so you have to note the exact color.

Brilliant, Talarus. I wondered about the audio aspect as I had been hearing of other audio issues. Well, keep an eye on the JIRA entry...
