I can't help but wonder (in addition to the obvious reasons) if LL did away with in-world gambling because of all the bazillions of tiny cash transfers constantly going on all over the grid, and the load they put on the servers that track resident's L$'s.

i cant image they generated more small transactions than freebie shops.

Well we don't really know what the project was or what the testing involved so I wouldn't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that simply paying a bunch of people lindens will trigger a suspension and investigation. More information on what the project was and what testing involved is necessary to really draw that conclusion. After all it could be that the project involved a game that could be considered gambling and the stress testing could have entailed playing the game.

Seems to me it's a reaction going to what Raymond said about them.

At 5:30pm PST Friday evening Linden Labs closes shop for the weekend, and wont be back until roughly 8:00am PST (sometimes 9am, depending on how big the hangover is,) so they are stuck. They see something that may or may not be related to gambling. That's a no no, but they can't very well stay AFTER 5:30pm to deal with this situation, it's Friday for chrissakes! So what do they do? They are stuck, between common sense and a beautiful beach. Damn.

Linden Lab really does fail at communication to a high extent. I've witnessed this so many times i lost count. I really think its a cheesy business practice to get into. When you run a public service, you really should consider helping your customers out when they are having problems with your service.
