but you said strawman...... oh, nevermind. i still don't get it.

You mentioned debate - "Straw Man" is a logical fallacy. I said we can use "Land Bot" Instead. For a SL flavor.

A Land Bot is a robot, and this a Tin Man. The Tin Man has no heart. Neither do Land Bots. Knock, see nothing.

The fact is that this mistake keeps being made daily. Whether the people making it are lazy, ignorant or not well-versed in English is pretty irrelevant.

If the mistake could be corrected, there would be no issue. Of the bot runners out there, there are only one or two who don't return mistakes. It is these unethical folks who are the real problem.

LL won't step in, so for now our best solution is making a lot of noise when this happens, pressuring the bot runner to do the right thing. The last person who did this, the victim in the OP, got her money back.

I propose that a group is created that is notified when someone is aware of a bot story like the one in the OP. Then we can all IM the botrunner and campaign to get the land back.

Any reason why this idea sucks, other than the bot runner putting all the group members on mute?

I think this is a good idea. Strength in numbers.

Whether or not landbots are an eveil scourge, is a diferent story. I've made a couple of land transactions in my time, and my advice is Take your time and READ. The land sale menu is pretty cut and dry. I do think a final cancel option would be a good idea, but how many "are you really sure" boxes can we put in. But it was time to dig up the landbot debate anyway.

Nooooo! No landbot debates!

Anyway, I agree with Brenda.

I'm in total agreement with you up until the third paragaph.

Unfortunately, the "group harrass the landbot owner" probably runs afoul of the "2. Harassment" section of the Community Standards and could get one banninated.

So, as per usual, LL won't do anything to aid its customers and prohibits customers from helping each other. Yes, their trippy dippy policy melange is still absurd.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but there's a pretty good proposal here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2905

It involves a confirmation box requiring the seller to confirm the sale. This times out after an arbitrary period (perhaps ten minutes), so as not to impede long-standing landsales, but gives you enough time to catch a transaction gone wrong while swapping land.

LL do not give advice about land bots, they don't let people know they exist. Some people have been in SL for a long time and have no idea of their existance, you would really only know if you read forums which only a small percentage do.

Different people have different patience levels, while you may be happy to sit a month reading as much as possible about purchasing land, others will assume it's like any other platform and safe to buy a plot to feel at home.

I wish LL would stand up and admit to the bots being there and put out clear warnings as land is far from cheap and it involves real money.

I did far more than read the first month and 1/2 when I got here. I learned the basics of the client, I learned about land, as well as many other aspects of SL.... building, scripting, vending, groups, etc. I made some friends, an easy thing to do, and I asked alot of questions of those friends, who were happy to give me information and advice. My first day or two in SL I quickly began to realize the scope and depth of it was far greater than what I knew. That caused me to go slow, and learn about it before investing ANY money into it. I was a camper my first month and a half, and earned a camper's wage. I used that money for texture uploads mainly. After a month and a half, I felt comfortable enough to join premium and buy land. Now, I run a business, and pay for SL with the business. If someone goes off half cocked, no knowing what they're doing. It's their fault, at least partially in this case. I agree land bots suck, and it would be easy to stop them with a simple turing test. Why LL doesnt institute this is beyond me.
