I travel a lot and rarely come across the 'blatent porn' that gets complained about every so often. (except when I look for it of course *grins*). SL is way to huge to say it revolves around any one thing. Is sex a good portion of it? Ummm..yeah. Look up Human Physcology and it might explain a few things.....or you could just...you know....go outside....maybe...

But to side with the OP, ads do tend to draw people in with false wording. Not just "sex" places, but any place run by someone with no morals. You can sort of tell these places by thier ads. The ones with "sexcarboatclothesshoeshairgunsweaponsetcetcetc" in thier ad, heh. Those I just avoid (sorta like I avoid anyone who places an ad sign on a 16m plot).

To say only the "sex" places do that is like saying only water in lakes is wet. Everywhere that sells anything can lie since the onset of the used car salesman lol

Learn to search for what you like. If you can't *shrugs* why are you on a computer?

I agree with most of that. But sex makes up a ton of SL at this point. Its just a sad thing to me I guess... What a waste of something that could be very educational.

And don't get me wrong... I have been to my share of strip joints... But this is the same reason RL cities have zonning and laws and such. So this sort of thing does not end up on every block.

To be honest I do most of my shopping now through SLExchange. Their search engine works much better then SL's at this point and it finds what your really looking for when you search.

I got news for you the bulk of the Non sex businesses including clothing, avatars, cars, furniture,houses, dogs, cats and about anything else you might want are housed on mature sims for the most part. If the owner does not own the entier private sim they can't change that setting and you are going to have to check the mature box now in order to shop for your next pair of shoes! This did not solve the adult XXX content problem only turned down the tap on the amount of searches in the mature category...

So there is gonna be a flood of more classifieds which people complain about already and my land listing in places is now gonna be hidden in mature. Luckily though now you are forced to click the mature button in to buy a pair of pants .. whereas before you were forced to click the pg button in to not buy a pair of pants...

it just messed up the traffic it did nothing the problem will still exist and probably be worse now as people scramble to rearrange themselves. In the end it may normalize but I know many people who got enough traffic from their land listing in places are now forced to take out a classified ad or not be seen at all ..

I believe you mean it's not granular enough.

Such a waste of money since you can get the same thing just with search without all the crap and exploited listings using the various tricks to get your name noticed, though I admit that people use tricks in search too.

so what do those of us that have to have a mature setting do now? i have semi nude paintings i made and sell in my shop...and some cages...not completely sex oriented but now not as easy to find

after looking at the timing on this thread and the way it was worded after the posts on the other threads (which the original poster could have posted to) I have come to the conclusion that this is just a flame bait thread as two threads about the mature settings were already open and active ^^

If the mature content fills the top 50% of the search..........then doesn't that mean mature content is what is wanted by the customers?

If you want special treatment from the majority of the customer base, then shouldn't the seperate place be built for you?

The more I read this (And I have no idea why I keep reading it except I am bored) the more I wonder how some of you remember to breath. Do you have any clue as to how the search engine in SL works? Hhhhmmm never mind don't answer that. Your thinking has already scared me enough. To be completely honest I don't see how somebody gets turned on by a cartoon avi anyway but to each his or her own. I mean to me, thats like comparing PLAYBOY to SpongeBob Square pants and choosing SpongeBob!

There is absolutely no change for you. The same sex shit will show up for you when you check the box. But I guess to uncheck it in the past was too much work for you.

Edit.... The more I think about this... This is like fighting with SpongeBob anyway... Useless. The part that scares me the most is that most of you out there ticked off about this I would bet my life are under age and in the SL adult world. SL REALLY needs to figure out how to age check better. Something tells me they will soon.

So you have no more arguments, EoS? Sweet. BTW, I (like many others who are really hit moneywise by this change in default setting) sell PG stuff. Furniture, even kids furniture - but even pure kids places like "Inner Child Depot" are now hidden for those who are not aware of the importance of that little checkbox. I mean, who in his right mind would think that he has to check the mature box to find kids stuff?

And again, for those like you, who want a "clean search", nothing has changed other than you don't have to uncheck the mature checkbox one time.

PRIMARY OPINION: This change affects marketing options for land... which affects land value... which, to me, means that it SHOULD BE announced way in advance so that people can make plans for the change.

SECONDARY OPINION: (keeping in mind that I firmly believe the first opinion before I get blistered for being unsympathetic again) The change is necessary. "Voluntary" compliance with pg/mature isn't working. Shops may be PG in mature zones... but completely surrounded by unavoidable "mature" content, perhaps even at no fault of the shop-owners! (and yes, yes, PG region parcels may be adjacent to Mature region parcels and have the same problem)

LL doesn't have time to police all the parcel listings to see if the shops are PG enough to be "pg-safe" even if they're in mature zones. I'm sure they more than have their hands full with trying to oust 'mature' content that leaks into PG sims.

Though, I have to admit, I am kind of surprised that so many non-adult businesses are operating in mature parcels.

For what it's worth, all my business is done in PG sims, and my revenue is WAY down this week too.

Because there was a smiley in the subject line I first thought this would a sarcastic posting. But it is not! Unbeleavable that someone can be glad about such a change-for-the-worse. My business is harmed by this change.

Yes, my shop is on mature land. I have never wanted anything to do with PG land. Why? Because I want to be able to change my clothes or check a new skin without risking an AR against me.

Then there are places like our island with both PG and Adult shops, so yes there are reasons to list both.The land is unparceled. Nothing externally forces anyone to enter a mature shop. And a few words in description saying we have on the island a shop that sells Adult animations is not I feel horribly explicit.

Woot! I just moved my porn store to PG land, I'm going to dominate this new search function!

How I did it:

Bought a small parcel on the edge of a PG sim, walled the parcel so it only goes in one direction (towards my shop), the shop is in a bordering Mature sim.

If that's not sweet happy love I don't know what is.

With a comment like that i would seriously question your age. In my opinion you have totally missed the point of the agrieved shop owners etc. and seem to want to now troll and bait. So who is acting underage now?

I was on PG mainland sims till the prices skyrocketed and I needed more land. Since I could not afford mainland land I went to estate land. I have not found any commercially zoned or "unzoned" estate land that is not listed as mature in fact I dont think there are any PG estate owned sims not that I have seen anyhow. So really I had no choice. I needed space or give up and leave and I didn't have the money for mainland land. I waited and waited and waited and then I gave up and did what I thought I would never do move to a privately owned estate sim and have remained there every since.
