Thank you Lidens For Hiding The Mature :-)

I for one would like to thank the Lidens for hiding the mature crap from search. I have been so tired of everything in SL going around sex. Just like the Internet, something good comes along and the sex business has to invaid and try to rule 80% of the enviroment.
I was sooooo tired of searching for something and having to weed through the first 50% of the search because its full of sex crap. And the thing that really got me mad is these sex business owners will use keywords that have nothing to do with what they are selling just to make sure there sex business shows up in your search.

So to the Lindens I say..... GOOD FOR YOU! Its nice to see you take a stand to keep SL cleaned up a bit. Don't get me wrong, people have a right to run that type of business but I am sick and tired of them trying to push it in my face every 30 seconds. SL has so much more to offer then Avtar sex.

To be honest I think SL should give the sex business their own search table and keep it seperated from the good stuff of SL. Of course then the business owners of the sex business will cry about that because then they can't trick people into coming to their stores.

The option was always there. This just made it the default setting.

Reason? LL prolly has one, but I doubt it's to stem the 'sex' industry. *smirks*

More likely it's to reduce data load on searches by only searching part of teh database, not all. And by making it default, new residents will have to learn how to change it before increasing that load.

Well, you know, you could have unchecked that box and been okay.

The problem is, all the shops on mature aren't sex shops! I think I would probably be safe in saying most aren't.

Those who didn't want the "Mature" results could have just unchecked the "include Mature" checkboxes.

The current version feedback forum would make more sense as a home for this thread.

Yeah but unchecking it does not matter most of the time either. These shop owners lie and cheat to get their stores posted as I said above. You might be looking for a damn flower or something and you will get one of two things....

1.) A sex business that comes up in search from using keywords that have 0% to do with what your looking for.

2.) They will say yes we have the best flowers in SL in the advertisement... Then you get there... Guess what! No Flowers... But lots of other complete crap.

You may be right, they most likely did not do it for the reasons I listed but I still say thank you. To me, its still a good step in cleaning up SL some.

And I am sure they will still read this. Something tells me they watch most of these posts on this forum.

Note to self: Apparently pushing mature businesses is the norm. Update advertising technique.

I have no problem with people being required to check Mature to see mature content. The issue that is most troubling for store owners, however, is that stores with PG content are being excluded from the search results just because they are on land designated as Mature.

Automatically excluding any business on Mature land, regardless of the nature of their content, makes no sense and serves no purpose.

THAT is the issue that is causing such outrage among shop owners. So your exultation is somewhat misplaced and quite a slap in the face of those who have a valid complaint about the execution of this policy.

Its not a slap at all, its a person and a customer who might be looking for a product through search saying I am tired of being force fed this adult crap in here. Make a seperate place for it.

I have to ask - if you were so upset before, why didn't you uncheck your mature box?

If they had DONE THAT, Voodoo, that would have been fine. But they didn't. They said no one can say the F word on PG land. That is what they said. That is why I got Mature land. (Not that I say the F word there.)

I don't like all the sex crap either. So I just don't go to it. But to treat me as some kind of porn peddler because I played their game by their rules is unfair.

Really, scads and scads of people and shops are on mature land that have nothing to do with any of the sex industry.

The Classified - I learned today - distinguishes between these things based on whether or not YOU say that your land involves mature sorts of things.

The Search doesn't give you any such choice. They've said, oh, you live there? Your shop is there? Well then, we'll hide you. I wouldn't mind if I had a way to say that my shop is NOT mature content. But to be hidden even though there is no reason for it is nuts!

LOL I was waiting for that. Nope not at all.... I just don't like it forced down my throat like it has been on search.

1) Then don't go to those places.

2) Ah - honestly? If someone is dishonestly rigging the ads, they probably won't stop there, eh?

So far, I haven't seen actual examples of thrusting mature businesses in your face.

Cocoanut Koala I have no problem with what you are saying at all and I tend to agree. I said I think there should be a seperate search for that type of thing. Just don't mix it.

The real problem is that it's too granular.

There needs to be G, PG, and R equivalent things. PG can allow some F-word, but no sex shops. R is really for R. Most land would probably be PG, very little would be G, and some sizeable fraction (but less than 1/2) would be Mature.

Alas, that's not how it is. Everything that's not G gets lumped into Mature, and the G stuff gets made PG. It's really too bad, because there's a huge difference between stuff that's not 100% kid safe and porn....

Great, let's make it more user unfriendly.

Maybe they need XXX regions now so non-sex related business don't have to only be in PG sims. But I guess it would just be easier to add another option in search for the racier businesses.

Or maybe people who have their knickers in a twist over mature content should leave the mature box unchecked.

Just sayin', you know. There is that option.

How many times do I need to exlaine why unchecking the box does not work most of the time!
All I am saying is that SL is getting like the net is... The sex business is attempting to get on your screen using every tatic it can think off which ok marketing is a good thing but not when it lies and does things in a sneaky way to get on your screen.

I guess the search engine in SL just needs alot of work. Not like we all don't know this. It just gets old after a while.... Seems you can't go anywhere without a dong or a boob sticking out at you in world.

My problem is I have a half a sim of mature land which was equal to everyone else till THIS, and now I'm supposed to be punished and hidden because I bought the same stupid land LL was suggesting I buy!

They never SAID if you buy this land, you will be a second-class citizen. They never SAID don't buy this land unless you are a sex-oriented place.

There are a lot of people in this pickle now, and it just plain isn't necessary! If they want to hide the sex stuff, then they should do that. It can't be that hard! Do it like Classifieds. No need to ruin all our businesses over it!

If unchecking the box doesn't work, then report them.

You're talking to someone in the "sex business", who works damned hard not to inflict it on anyone who doesn't want it.

I am not saying its you... I am saying alot of them do that though. And if I had to take the time to report them... Well lets just say it could become a full time job. Thats SL's fault too though, they should monitor their search engine better.

They've made it pretty clear they're hands off now, unfortunately, aside from prettying SL up.
