Try turning off local lighting and shadows, if enabled. They seem to be rather buggier than most settings.

Awww Heidi, there are many residents here who are happy to help you, but could you please share more about what exactly is going on in detail? Your computer configuration, as well as your last known satisfactorily-running version of SL would be a good start! There were a number of problems earlier tonight, I chewed on my celery waiting to log in.

What are the updates helping?
05-12-2005 09:45
I remember when I first came to SL, things ran much more smoothly. Now, it is taking twenty minutes or more to log in, I crash constantly on tp, makes you feel like if you are lucky enough to get in, you had better stay in one place, barely move or take a chance at changing your clothes. Personally, I don't see anything that has improved with all these updates.

finally getting in only to find that a piece of my furniture vanished without a trace, makes me wonder if I should add to my home in fear of going there one day and the house could be empty (

I'd dissagree.. Since the inception of this "streaming technology" the game has gone to hell. You don't notice it as much if you play every day, but if you stop playing for ohhh maybe a couple weeks, you start to notice things. Like one day you log in and everything is fine.. The next you are stuck in "login queue" and the next time you log in you wait for 5 mins only to be kicked back out to the login screen, then upon the retry (which takes another 20 mins) you get in.. Yay, but it takes another 5 minutes for your inventory to download, 10 mins for the objects around you..
So now I've been waiting for over a half an hour, and what do I have to show for it? I teleport to an event and crash, have to start the process all over again.
The more I deal with this, the less I come back.. The less I come back, the more I'm glad I don't pay a monthly fee..

I'll ride the tide over to 1.6.5, and see what it fixes, and make more suggestions from there. I'm very happy to see that the STOP button in gestures will be working again, and that the Edit window is now correctly minimized when moving around, so thanks Lindens on that! UpdateGeom lag continues to affect me, something that came in towards the end of the 1.5.x cycle in paralyzing chunks, and it's mysterious and awful... more info here: /111/ee/31063/1.htmlI'm not the only one.

Ok now to complain too, I use the preview and all my stuff was gone, and all my old stuff which I thought I had long deleted was back.
What ever happend to the times when secondlife was actually fun and amusing? Seems like it's just faded away with every update. It's the roman empire again, only it's not taking years, it's taking months XD

Lots of anomolies going around lately. Last nite a roomie spent 6 hours building, only to discover later that when she went back to adjust something, her permissions somehow locked her out of the ability to modify her own items. And no, she didnt click the wrong buttons, just some funky glitch going down. Cant wait for the next version to bail us out. *knocks on wood

it is fustrating but wait until you get a job and the same stuff happens to your servers and pcs at work, it's technology baby, being on the cutting edge means you get cut sometimes but the gleam of the blade keeps you entranced....

this is sad LL may never see my 160+RL $again, But I don't want to let the sims I own get auctioned off. every update is causes problems with NO real fixes

Hey Antantaru, just to let you know, the Preview database is merely a testing one from the middle of Feburary, so yes, old items will make a reappearance. Don't worry, what you deleted WILL be deleted in the final 1.7.

So true Antantaru, I’m trying to look back over this past year as this is Tang&My birthday month. What have all the changes done for the players in SL- Who Benefitted from them?. Most that I know of were from gamers complaining about them. who Benefitted from first Free land costing 512L who Benefitted from Auctions who Benefitted from dwell to traffic and that whole Fubar tied to it who Benefitted from changing out Char to whoever that handily guy was and letting the mentor and Instructor programs go to shit who Benefitted from the Teen grid theft of resources from the paying folks who Benefitted from dumping of the snow land Sims who Benefitted from the almost 100% disapproved requests for support land&projects helpers who Benefitted from the total lack of policing of rouge scripts, (bounce, land scan, autogun etc.) omg remember those fooking bounce weapons get killed 3 Sims away lol who Benefitted from the event moneys going poof who Benefitted from the rating system being hacked apart ( never fixed if it was broke) just costing bloody lots more who Benefitted by never focusing on the creative Vehicle designers and really trying to make a fooking car work in SL, passing by all those wonderful cars, planes, boats knowing they don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of ever being enjoyed -the list could continue but this will take you back upgrade memory lane And waves number Two: Dave Letterman thing of who benefitted from the backbone of Second Life *** AV Animation *** We still have the same lameazz tool from over 14 plus upgrades ago. The number one is so in our face, "Hello" login, login, login over six months with how to get folks into the game with a sound & hardy front end loader. But we got , or I think we got streaming video What is the common denominator here ? who is Benefitting from leaving so many core items broke or abandoned and infusing all these changes that keep adding to the reasons I had time to post this whole statement and not having FUN in Second Life.

Could you give me a clue as to what you where getting at ? As you can tell I'm more than a little clueless with the history of SL are you trying to say that no real fixes have occurred just glossing over the interface and disruptions of services. You can't polish a turd.

To Cluless about history of SL
05-15-2005 07:29
Thats exactly what they are telling you. SL need to spend its millions on fixing the interface and disruption of services to all of us PAYING customers before they add glossy effects like streaming media!! Oooh Ahh Streaming Video... would be nice if people could get into the game to actually utilize it, don't cha think? From: Dragon Steele Could you give me a clue as to what you where getting at ? They obviously know that there are problems. They will be fixed eventually. Just try to have patience and wait, because in general SL is a great game, and I think it's worth the wait
