From: Escort DeFarge I hope it goes the way of the speech bubbles - so that I can just turn it off in prefs and forget it exists. The speech bubbles affect the position of the avatar name text even when you can't see the speech bubbles; they do their dirty work even though turned off and unseen. I agree with the rest of your post, pretty much; I was just reminiscing about my hatred of the speech bubbles.

Feature Requests Answered... weirdly
07-24-2006 21:15
From: Wolfgang Fackler Tell me LL, who the HELL asked for this feature?
Believe it or not ppl asked for the image compression feature. That is what LL did add, but most ppl can just go into a photo editor and change the file extension to fix the compression. We usually edit our picts after we take em anyways right? Though dont get me wrong, i do dislike the new snapshot UI alot.

Give me an option
07-25-2006 01:53
Matrix style freezeframe nonsense, please, let me turn it off.
And has anyone got the eyedropper gizmo thingmy to copy textures yet, or never mind that, got the texture picker to default to the current selected texture?
Again, please let me turn it off.

The snapshot tool has quite grown on me actually, after turning off "Updates automatically" so I can adjust the view before it splashes my screen. It really needs a way to update the scene though without closing the snapshot, e.g if you get a passing avatar in the shot you would update the scene thus removing them.
However, the defaults are not very good, it should focus on making quick snaps easier, and have an option to do full-screen preview or preview in the snapshot window. For some careful shots full-screen with auto-update off is perfect, for quick snaps it is horrible.
And to be honest, the preview isn't needed for me at all, I'd be happy just to have the two bars indicating the area of my snapshot, and the ability to move/resize them to 'crop' an area, that would be way more useful if it then took that area and output at the size requested.

So are we stuck with this "mostly unwanted " new feature?

From: Skky Cordeaux Anyways some good news about the inventory dream. Today i was on the SLEx and i found an awesome item! I had to buy it. Its a dresser that stores your inventory items in it so no more BLOATED inventories What's the difference between that and putting them in a plywood cube called "Archived Inventory items"? If people are willing to pay a total of L$2000 for this and the ability to run llGiveInventory for people in a list of friends... I've got some trivial scripting to do.

From: Skky Cordeaux Believe it or not ppl asked for the image compression feature. Many of the individual enhancements were in fact requested many times by many people. The problem is that LL didn't just add a few commonly requested options to a working tool, they threw it away and replaced it with another one that doesn't work nearly as well. "We replaced Argent Stonecutter's snapshot utility with Folgers Crystals... let's see if he notices!"

LOL Argent! Yes I wish they just added the ablity to turn off HUD's in attachments via a checkmark on the old system. That was the ONLY thing I didn't like about the old system. Yes you could turn it off via the view menu, but it was anoying to do that before you took a snapshot then had to turn it back on to see/use your HUD's again. But better than having the detach then reatach them every time (which was required every time). However why LL didn't just make the HUD's hidden by default in the snapshots? Then a the setting in view (or debug for that matter) that would show them in the snapshot. I think the vast majority of residents would have prefered it that way. Who wants HUD's in all of their snapshots? I certainly never met anyone that wanted them. You can always take a screen capture with other methods if you wanted the HUD's to be present (which I think the only people that would do it are ones making and selling HUD's).
I suppose one can "make do" with the current new system IF you could hear the chat around you and respond. That is a real "show stopper" in my opinon. I guess we need to put signs over our heads saying "taking a shapshot.....can't respond". Other than that it is a nice idea. I think all LL would need to do is add a setting so you can choose which system you want, full screen freeze frame of the world or a little snapshot preview like the old system did. Why not give the option? I think that would please everyone.

If the new snapshot system had a higher rez setting and texture upload by default, and the snapshots being preview in a window as an option (and by default). Would people be complaining about the feature as much? As I say, I've grown to like the new options, I just think that the default settings suck, as I only sometimes would like a full screen preview. Having a 'snap' button for quick snapshots at a default setting would be nice too.

But when you are in the snapshot viewer window that's the snapshot taken anyway (in the old system too), so if you're in the snapshot viewer, any further action is pointless anyway, as you have to close it and take a new snapshot under both systems.

Actually with the old system you could adjust your scene, see what was being said, interact, and press the "new snapshot" button if you wanted to update the snapshot preview image. Or if something just happened (someone's avatar did something funny and you wanted to show them for example) you could press new snapshot and capture it. Then go back to what you were originally trying to do. You didn't have to close (discard) it before taking a new snapshot. And you could still intereact with people and see what is going on. Now you can't chat, or see what is going on till you close the snapshot "window" (which just happens to be the full screen).

Nop, you could take another snapshot without closing (and discarding) the shot you'd taken, so you could take a snap and then wait a bit (for action) or move things around, and compare what you were working on to the thumbnail. I think they should have the shot come up in the old snapshot, then let you "zoom in" by clicking on the thumbnail to go into the new mode. That would let you tweak things to get the set and setting right, *then* go in to the new mode to adjust the camera.

I dont like the new snapshot thingy cuz I dont like that white flash taking over my screen freaking me out everytime as if some big interruption and no matter how many times I press to update the snapshot everyone looks blurry so I have no idea how they are really goin to turn out until I have paid and get to see them once in my inventory. I like how it was before cuz I knew just how they were goin to look prior to paying for them. Now I am paying lots of linden just to be able to see if I want to keep the snapshot or delete it.
I dont like the new snapshot thingy and I dont like where Wear has been put in the area that Take a Copy was cuz now I keep accidentally wearing everything lmao and some items once you wear them their position is then permanently changed and then I have to mess around getting them situated back to how they are supposed to be which sometimes isnt a fun simple thing to do.
I also dont like that now while I am chatting I end up flying upward over and over like so gettin on my last nerve with this ahahaahaaa
I guess thats my list of dont likes about the new deal for now cuz these are things I have had to do so far so these things have been put to my attention.
I go on the preview grids but only when SL main grid is closed for maintenance and I really wouldnt know what to be looking for to test anyhow. I am not any pro lol I just like to play and I only know if stuff works or not when it comes time I need to use it eheheehe
Of course I love SL and the only thing that would make me leave SL is if SL closed down for good and I could not get here or if I die in real lol But I sure wish they would fix up these few things I have mentioned cuz these are really gettin on my nerves.

Yeah but i think in the old system all u had to do w/the mini snap UI was press "take snapshot" again and at least u got to see what was going on in RealTime and Chat as well....

From: Laukosargas Svarog But it's just as much our fault for not noticing it in the preview and complaining while it was there. Alas... there were considerable complaints during preview.

Exactly, it was like leaving the IM or edit windows up .. you have instant access to them yet can still go about whatever you were doing. And for modeling the old system was MUCH better

The old snapshot system suited me just fine, far better than the new one does. The only change I would have liked in the old system was to have it at the least remember the last email address you sent something to. I got tired of typing pics@slipics.com over and over. A combo box with the last 3 or email addresses would be an even better improvement.
I'd really like to be able to use the old snapshot system again.

i think the new snapshot feature is a bit much, the old one was easier and quicker to use. I'd rather the old one be put back in or an option to use one or the other because this new one is annoying.

what scares me most about the implementation of the new snapshot system is that it was all too evidently "sold" on the words of it being "bullet time" (which is actually slow mo dolly and zoom not freeze btw).... the scary part is that somebody bought that marketing style bs. i hate the new snapshot system with a vengance - just roll it back out or make it optional - PLEASE

I think it would be nice to have both snapshot features in SL. I liked the old one, it let me take pictures while flying and just hit upload and keep flying. I do understand why some people prefer the new one though.

From: Jessy Kent omg i take back anything i said about the snapshot feature, i didn't know that you can zoom in and around with the picture after. Great improvement, good work SL ...meanwhile you are in total ignorance of what's happening in-world and people are wondering wtf is going on with you. The time when you'd most want to post-select your shot is when there's a lot of action. Which means the time you may even want to use it (which i never do) are the times when you will be dropped out of interaction just when you are likely to need it most. The concept is seriously flawed from an experiential point of view. This "feature" should be OPTIONAL.

There should be a rapid snapshot mode that does not obscure your screen. And the main problem I have with the new snapshots are that they are fuzzy. I've started using screen capture instead.
