If I used the new system, and Custom to 6000x4000, it's still not high resolution, just really really big!

This *is* what "high resolution" is as far as graphics renderer is concerned. It simply generates a large picture, that's suitably big for display on either monitor set to high resolution or for printer with high DPI setting... but the actual settings of the monitor or printer that gets to display this image are of no concern to the renderer.

using custom size that matches screen resolution of your monitor will generally generate as sharp picture 'as it gets' and you can still see it... although generating larger picture than that and then scaling it down to screen resolution in graphics program can add some extra anti-aliasing to the final picture that may make it look nicer.

I have to agree the snapshot system now sucks . blurry pictutes and need a tech manuel to take a picture . I don't want to spend hours learning how to use something that should be simple .

That button should be re-named, heh. I thought it was for uploading textures in your inventory. Thanks. :)

Yes it should. Or they should add another button. I added this as a bug report back in preview and they told me I didn't understand the interface. hahaha

Dang, that's one pimped out screenshot menu... but where's this Jpeg compression as mentioned in the update box? I don't recall Jpegs being 1.4 meg bitmaps

Horrible is a kind way to describe it. Agreeing with all the above negative comments and biting my tongue to avoid saying all the other things I think. Lose the flash too.

Jolan, the JPG is for postcard or save as texture settings. Saving to your HD still saves as BMP. But the slider is only adjustable from the postcard selection. So you have to set it first then go to save as texture mode if you want better JPG quality for saving as texture (aka save snapshot as photo to your photo album).

i think i'd be happy if i could just move my camera as usual within "snapshot mode". having to turn off automatic updates, then find the proper ctrl/alt/shift key to click+drag on the screen to re-adjust my camera in this mode is so counter intuitive. WASD dont' serve any other purpose in that mode that i know of, so why not let them move the cam? c.c;;;;

I too dislike the new snapshot interface. I can't really take ANY snapshots anymore; all I get is a fuzzy mess instead of a picture. I had a heck of a time figuring out how to put the photo in my inventory (though I did eventually figure it out -- not particularly intuitive to choose "Upload Texture" when you want to "Save Photo to Inventory";). But then why would I want to save a fuzzy, undecipherable snapshot to any disk, anyway..... Wish we could get back to the old way.

I have to take computer screen shots to take the pictures I want now. It is great for sharing pics with friends via email, but not really easy to share pics inworld with friends there.

That's brilliant.

I still want the thumbnail interface back, but that would be REALLY useful.

taking pictures

I can't take pictures anymore with the new snapshot "feature". PLEASE put the old way of taking pictures back.

Its funny, I've been looking through the posts and I haven't seen one request for this new feature, but I have seen a multitude of complaints about it and requests to get rid of it.

It will be interesting to see how LL responds to the user community on this issue.

Oh and btw, responses from LL in the vein of, "I feel your pain" and, "Oh yeah, I've noticed that, too", are not valid answers to valid questions. I for one expect the answer to a post to actually answer the question.

I hate the New Snapshots too!

I hate the new snapshot feature too! I mean it does give you the ablitily to pan and zoom around in full screen, but big deal... what i hate the most is that you cant see what's going on in Real Time like u could w/the mini snap. I wish they would just let us have the option to switch back to "classic" or something...

 Ugh... it is just crappy... I'll have to file a bug report too....

Thanks everyone for lettin me know that you feel the same bout this "new" feature. Sometimes new is not always better.... Havent you just sometimes wished that the game was a stand alone that you could just go in game during updates or when its down just to check inventory/do housekeeping etc and that it would update when it connected again? I know i'll keep dreamin... :(

OMG what a BRILLIANT feature idea!!!! I'll vote for that!!!! To have a local copy of my inventory that I could organize during downtime would be WONDERFUL.

Yes that is a nice idea but it won't ever happen. The reason is if someone managed to crack the way the inventory was stored, they could create tons of objects they bought only one copy of then sell it etc etc. Of course we can always dream. Another dream of mine, the ablity to build offline in the SL client (during downtimes for example) then log in and upload the object to SL which then appears in your inventory just as if you created it in-world. But only another dream.......

Dreamin
07-23-2006 10:05
Ya i know im dreaming... but havent you all wished that you could have a local copy of everything, even if you werent able to mod it but just there on ur comp for backup purposes. It just worries me w/all the stuff being on their servers w/all the problems its had lately, esp the one w/the 2nd backup DB issue.

I know im a dork, but i actually wrote down on the computer my avie shape and all my inventory items in case i were to ever lose em. I heard some ppl who after certain updates have stuff permanently lost and i got nervous so i just wrote em down in case, like i said we dont have local copies so we hope that one of the DB backups never get corrupted! Ohhh that would be horrible i cant think about it!

And how many times have u tp'd and been "ruthed"? I was like OMGWTF? I thought i was messed up for good

SOunds wounderful, I've had an "Archive" folder for a long time where I put a copy of *Everything* I make just in case...
And if we could build offline Imagine how smooth it'd be, no rubber banding, no lag, nothing. You could build complete pasterpieces and noot have to worry about lag or items being returned or any of the other niggling little problems that annoy us when we have a great idea for something we want to make.

Well, I still dont like it that much but don't mind now. I guess I am getting used to it. What bothers me is the "frozen moment" you get, the huge screenshot, and you miss a lot on plain chat and can't answer IM's.. I think that isn't right. You can't snap that quick and move cameras that quick because of the frozen snapshot. Oh well

Agreed & Found a COOL item!
07-24-2006 14:25
Yes i agree, the frozen moments rot. You cant respond to chat. And has anyone noticed that if you are in ur inventory screen that you cant just type to chat. When i have tried to do that it brings me to the first letter that i type in my inventory, :(

Anyways some good news about the inventory dream. Today i was on the SLEx and i found an awesome item! I had to buy it. Its a dresser that stores your inventory items in it so no more BLOATED inventories :D It was $500L. It also has a laptop (purchased separatly for $1500L) that you can take with you and you can pull items out of your inventory w/o being at the dresser itself. The dresser also allows you to share your inventory items w/others that u allow if you want to.

Ya i know its no replacement for the dream of havin inventory stored offline, but i thought it was pretty cool to have for the game bc my inventory is HUGE! And i can put backups in it....

*pppssttt LL pls make offline inventory in ur next update* :D Thanks :D

I've got this thread aggregated, which means it's been compiled and will be forwarded to LL Development.

Now this sounds like a killer app!!
Please post again when you get it loaded, etc and let us know how it works out.
The only thing that worries me is what if the dresser poofs spontaneously? Is it as secure as inventory?

Update Sorta
07-24-2006 16:31
Im gonna log on now to ck to see how it works. Now to ur question about is it as secure as ur inventory, i have no idea. I mean ur inventory is stored on their servers right? Well isn't ur objects stored on servers as well? I would imagine yes. Though as an object (storing your items) I would imagine it could be suseptible to SIM crashes or griefers... I dunno though, maybe if you stuffed it somewhere behind locked doors and private property...

UGH i just sometimes wish everyone was nice on SL and not out to attack, damage, and destroy... :(

Keep ya posted...

Oh, and something else that's horrible about it: snaping one time events...

If i try to snap somone spilling water on somone through a script bucket, and i want a 3:4 (512:384) ratio, i need to change a few of the option, then que my friend.

Low an behold the particles don't work when the menu is out (they stay in one spot where they were created.)

Tell me LL, who the HELL asked for this feature?
