They can reset passwords, but they can't tell you what your password is. Almost any secure password system is like this. It is an IT basic. Good Lord.

Two people are saying different things. All I'm asking is: Which is it? Is Cristiano incorrect? or Is Sensual incorrect? From how I read these comments, it's one or the other. Good Lord indeed.

If I reset your password, I can tell you what I reset it to. There is no reason to be double dog secret at that point. Passwords are encrypted, so once you reset your password, I do not know what is it, but as a SysAdmin, I can reset and tell you what I reset it to again. It is a very simple concept and doesn't involve any complicated thought. You are making a mountain of an ant hill.


I think the bigger issue is how did the person access her account while she was still on the phone with LL. This story just does not make sense. I don't think Arsi is being dishonest, I don't know her personally but from what I know she does not seem dishonest, there is just a lot missing to this story that we don't know ahout before passing blame.

I honestly don't understand your need to be condescending (though I assume you're compensating for something). I'll freely admit I read Cristiano's post to mean that the password was an automatically- and internally-generated string to which the Linden had no access whatsoever. That I, apparently like youself, am confused by this set of circumstances, only shows that we're both lacking in whatever sense is necessary to understand what's going on given only the second-hand accounts provided here. Unlike you however, I'll refrain from tacking childish barbs into my posts. And unlike you, I'll fully read a response, give it due thought and reply without avoiding the points on which I should concede I'm in (apparent) error.

I'm glad our inability to resolve this issue is the only thing we seem share in common. And I'm very sorry for whatever it is that causes you to reply in this unpleasant manner (both to me and others).

Ok neither Sensual nor I are incorrect actually. I do understand why there is so much confusion though - this story is very fluid and a bit hard to discern exactly what happened. The passwords are encrypted on LL's servers. They cannot go into your account and look up your password for you, they can only reset your password. This then sends out an email generally with the password to the email account on file.

Most password reset functionality has an autogenerator, plus the ability to specify a new password. Linden Lab created a password for her and told her what it was. They know the password only because they came up with it. Once they put it into their system, they cannot retrieve it directly - the reason they were able to give it to her is because they relayed to her what they had chosen.

Pot, kettle, black. Every post you make is abrassive and combative. When things are explained to you in the simpliest of terms you refuse to accept the explaination at face value and continue to ask WHY? WHY? WHY?. I am at a loss for how to explain things to you any clearer yet again, so I think I will just put you on ignore. Everyone will be happier for it.

Asri, did that email with the already-compromised password ever arrive? If it did, assuming it was intercepted, has Linden Lab verified that what you received originated from them?

Edit: To clarify my position. The story, as presented, makes very little sense. As you and various others were recklessly tossing out crackpot theories about Linden involvement, negligence, malfeasance, etc, I thought it would be nice if someone actually sat down and thought through the matter from a technical standpoint. Though I consider understanding to be a noble goal, I can understand how some would prefer ignorance. In the future, I will endeavour only to offer vapid words of condolence without ever attempting to discern the truth of the matter. After all, saying "That's real sad" accomplishes so much more than a technical post mortem ever would.

ok guys let me get this cleared up..

1. THE LINDEN CHOSE MY PASSWORD AT MY REQUEST.
2. they then changed it in the system and reactivated my account.
3. lindens say they cannot email your passwords period. (therefore it was verbally communicated to me over the phone.)
4. We were speaking on what was stolen from me. over the phone.
5. sensual was calling in on yahoo telling me comeone was logged on as me.
6. being i was logged in on an alt i look where sensual told me my av was and there it was...inworld.

FACT NOT FICTION

*i hadnt logged in using my new pw

*i had just been told my pw

*i hadnt typed it
hell had even re-spoke it.

*i take care of my parents. 62&66 who can't even make it down the stairs to my office

*i dont like people so i havent left my home in 6 months. other then my birthday the day it was stolen

*my brother and his son were here yet when this first happened my brother had taken me to the movies. on my birthday on sat. at that time i wasnt aware that it had been stolen at all so i just went to my sl party on my alt. i just thought system was acting wierd or something. i told the lindens ingame-they said call monday...at that time the account was left open.

*no no one was in my home while i was gone not even my parents who were on vacation and i locked my home.

*Sunday morning sensual called me asking me why i was acting weird in game.....yet i was in my bed sleep. i logged on my alt. and when talking to this person on me they told me to get another account because they wouldnt leave Asri alone. That Asri was now thiers and to go F*ck myself. ....i contacted a linden ingame and they imediately locked the account.


*you guys seem like your trying to say im lying ....the story isnt fluid....and if you cant fathom that a system that 2 days after thier 5 day investigation was updated to control a security breech had somehow played a part in the compromise of my account you need to get real.

*realistically i assumed at first it was me that was hacked. however...this is the one point i cant seem to get past.....i had only heard my new pw not typed not retold nothing.
mind you my birthday was saturday....i couldnt log in....sunday i first saw someone that wasnt me on me, and lindens shut down the account......monday i called LL(the phone call). during that call it was takin again........then shut down by lindens for 5 days because they couldnt figure out how the pw was aqured either(thus a 5 day investigation)........2 days after i got my account back, tada security update to sl. 1 day later they blame it on me and say i must have been hacked and theres nothing they can do.

Maybe your phone is bugged? Scary thought , but it seems to be the only conclusion I can come up with.

Asri is it possible a Linden was in your account for testing purposes?

why would lindens tell me to go F-myself....call LL claiming to be me trying to get asri unlocked during those 5 days......and take every $L i had ...and tranfer and try to delete my inventory?

I don't know - but if what you say is true, I would write a certified letter to Phillip, Robin and Corey, and cc: it to their board of directors documenting what happened and how you feel you've been harmed and ask them to fix the situation.

to be honest i feel ive lost the battle a long time ago.....but im tired of crying...because just as i get things back together im hit again.....i dont know what to do...but i want this person to pay big....REAL BIG!!!...this is WAR!

btw: the lindens said they couldnt return the money stolen from me this last time becaus since i had had the account of the thier flaggd with ige....they wouldnt do the transaction. so the thief used some other means ingame(via resident that specializes in linden trade ingame).

but after this post hit the fourms....i got this last money returned to me. maybe by letting people know whats going on it helped to stop all means to which this person can relocate my money. leaving thier efforts fruitless.

A very good proposal - Its well known in the world that a letter on paper and posted are the best way to put some ”stress” on the reciver(s).

Go for that Asri! There are more out in SL doing serious business and no one want to be hijacked like you.... and how many dont want or dare - to do business in SL if the can be hijacked??

you only recive an auto email if you forgott it give the correct question. but the pw itself isnt sent only a link to change it.

and my ? is impossible to guess...and i have changed it since then....again via phone having LL do it for me. but still gotten hit 3 times since.
